Best swords for each playstyle
Order of Gold pistol-swords: the strongest all-purpose choice
VGC ranks the Order of Gold pistol-swords as its leading non-DLC recommendation for general combat. Their reported 38 damage puts them at the top of the broad sword comparison, while three takedowns let a successful parry convert into a short chain of executions. Their heavy attack fires two damaging pistol shots, giving the weapon useful reach before you return to blade range.
They are a store purchase rather than a quest reward. Progress through the story until the Great Inagua Hideout becomes available, then improve its General Store if the item is not displayed. The store begins as an abandoned shack and can be upgraded three times with money, crafting materials and trade goods. Ubisoft says those upgrades unlock increasingly rare and legendary weapons; the exact stock can depend on the store’s current level.
Choose Order of Gold when you want one sword set that handles groups, officers and mixed-range encounters without committing to a specialist tactic. It is not automatically the best option for a player who values the largest possible parry chain or silent ranged attacks.
Matched Golden Swords: best for perfect-parry chains
Matched Golden Swords are VGC’s choice for a defensive player who deliberately waits for a perfect parry and then clears nearby enemies. The reported profile is 25 damage and four takedowns. That lower damage figure is offset by the extra chain capacity: the weapon is designed around turning one accurately timed defense into several immediate eliminations.
The Great Inagua Treasure Dealer supplies them in exchange for animal materials and other resources. The Treasure Dealer is a Hideout building, so you must first reach Great Inagua and construct the shop. Ubisoft describes this building as a source of exclusive items and a map-restoration service, making it a separate progression path from the General Store.
Use Matched Golden Swords when you are comfortable reading attack animations and staying close to groups. If you miss parry timings often, the lower reported damage can make ordinary fights feel slower than they do with Order of Gold.
Le Bourgeoys Blades: a strong Art Lover reward
Le Bourgeoys Blades are a useful alternative for players who prefer a quest route to store upgrades. Vandal lists 38 damage and two takedowns, plus an extra shot after every heavy strike. That bonus gives heavy attacks a ranged follow-up without requiring the pistol set recommended for open combat.
Unlock them by completing the Art Lover quest. The reward makes this set especially attractive if you are already following the quest line and want high damage before investing in every Hideout upgrade. Its two-takedown limit means it does not replace Matched Golden Swords for a parry-chain specialist.
Spring-Steel Swords: contract completion and gunshot parries
Spring-Steel Swords also report 38 damage and two takedowns, but their defining advantage is the ability to parry gunshots. They are awarded for completing every Assassin Contract. Assassin Contracts return in Resynced with updated rewards, according to Ubisoft; the specific Spring-Steel reward is listed by Vandal.
This is a completion route rather than an early purchase. Pick Spring-Steel if you want to clear the contract board and regularly fight firearm users. The gunshot-parry property can be more valuable than a higher takedown count in missions where ranged enemies control the arena.

Persian Scimitars: exploration reward with anti-Brute utility
Persian Scimitars are an exploration-focused option. Vandal reports 38 damage and four takedowns, along with a perk that prevents Brutes from denying chain takedowns. Obtain them from treasure marked by the Restored Weathered Map.

They are worth pursuing if you enjoy exploration and want the highest reported damage combined with a four-target parry chain and a specific answer to Brute interruptions.
Best pistols and where to get them
Golden Flintlock Pistols: the general-use sidearm
VGC recommends the Golden Flintlock Pistols for players who want a pistol that remains useful in almost every fight. Vandal reports range 28 and draw speed 1.20, the highest range cited in this comparison. A pistol kill also produces a brief time-slow effect, creating an opening for another shot, a reload or a close-range takedown.
They are sold by the Great Inagua General Store only after it reaches upgrade level 3, the fully upgraded state. PowerPyx lists a price of 18,000 Reales, but shop prices and stock can change with game updates, so check the current in-game listing before planning your currency. If the pistols do not appear, verify that all three store upgrades are complete rather than assuming the item is unavailable.
Peaceful Means: quieter shots for stealth
Peaceful Means are the situational stealth recommendation. VGC describes their shots as quieter, which helps when you want to remove a guard without drawing the same level of attention as a conventional pistol. Their reported range is 20 and draw speed is 1.0, both less favorable than the Golden Flintlock figures in this comparison.

Select them for infiltration and controlled takedowns, not as a raw-stat replacement for Golden Flintlocks. If an encounter has already become an open firefight, the longer reach and time-slow effect of the Golden set are generally more useful.
Baldwin’s Golden Pistols: a story-quest sidearm
Baldwin’s Golden Pistols are a practical quest alternative. Vandal reports range 26 and draw speed 1.0. They are awarded by the Plantain! quest in Lucy’s Officer questline. PowerPyx places that quest after Sequence 4, Mission 1, This Old Cave.
This route is useful if you want a respectable pistol without waiting for the Great Inagua store to reach level 3. Follow the Officer questline, complete Plantain!, and claim the reward rather than spending Reales on an equivalent early sidearm.
Captain’s Wheellock Pistols: Great Inagua chest
Captain’s Wheellock Pistols come from a chest on Great Inagua at coordinates 823,448, as listed by Vandal and PowerPyx. The chest route is an exploration pickup rather than a shop purchase, so bring the location up on the map and search the surrounding terrain if the marker is not immediately visible.

Captain Morgan’s Pistols: underwater chest on Black Island
Captain Morgan’s Pistols are in an underwater chest on Black Island at coordinates 917,616. Both location guides identify the same coordinates. Plan for an underwater approach and make sure you have enough air and a clear route back to the surface before opening the chest.

Cannon-Barrel or Cannon Pistols: locked Jiguey chest
The guides use slightly different names for this set: Vandal calls them Cannon-Barrel Pistols, while PowerPyx calls them Cannon Pistols. The reported location is Jiguey at 535,511. PowerPyx specifies that the chest is locked and underwater; a pirate leader in the same cave carries the key.
Use the in-game item label as the final authority when you open the chest. To unlock it, enter the cave, identify and defeat the pirate leader, take the key, then return to the underwater chest.

- Advance the main story. Great Inagua’s Hideout becomes available through story progression. You cannot buy its exclusive stock before the Hideout is unlocked.
- Restore the General Store. The store starts as an abandoned shack. Invest money, crafting materials and trade goods in its three upgrade levels.
- Check the stock after each upgrade. Order of Gold may appear once the store is sufficiently upgraded. Golden Flintlock Pistols require the fully upgraded, level-3 store according to PowerPyx.
- Build the Treasure Dealer separately. A General Store upgrade does not substitute for the Treasure Dealer building. Construct the dealer’s shop to access Matched Golden Swords and Peaceful Means.
- Bring the required resources. Matched Golden Swords require animal materials and resources; the dealer’s exchange screen shows what you still need.
- Return after completing quests or contracts. Art Lover awards Le Bourgeoys Blades, Plantain! awards Baldwin’s Golden Pistols, and every Assassin Contract awards Spring-Steel Swords.
If an item is missing, confirm the relevant building, upgrade level or quest state first. A weapon that is obtained from a chest or quest will not appear in the General Store simply because the Hideout is fully upgraded.
Combat mechanics that affect weapon choice
Resynced’s combat is built around breaking enemy defense and converting openings into takedowns. Ubisoft says a perfect parry can trigger a chain takedown against up to four nearby enemies, with the actual number depending on the sword. That is why takedown capacity matters independently of listed damage.
Heavy attacks by weapon class
- Rapiers: heavy attacks pierce a target, making them suited to focused damage.
- Cutlasses: heavy attacks strike a wide area, helping when several enemies surround you.
- Pistol-swords: heavy attacks fire two damaging shots, combining blade pressure with short-range gunfire.
Quick shots can break the guard of advanced enemy archetypes, so a pistol is not only a finishing tool. The Rope Dart can interrupt an attack or pull an enemy closer; in Resynced it is obtained in Sequence 3, earlier than in the original release.

Blowpipe darts and the Rope Dart are tactical tools rather than replacements for the sword and pistol rankings. Sleep is useful for quietly removing a guard, while Berserk creates a distraction by turning enemies against one another.

Acquisition checklist and common mistakes
- Do not confuse the two Great Inagua buildings. Golden Flintlocks come from the General Store; Matched Golden Swords and Peaceful Means come from the Treasure Dealer.
- Do not stop at the first store upgrade. The General Store has three levels, and rare or legendary stock requires further investment.
- Track quest prerequisites. Baldwin’s Golden Pistols are tied to Plantain! in Lucy’s Officer questline after Sequence 4, Mission 1, This Old Cave.
- Finish the entire contract set. Spring-Steel Swords require every Assassin Contract, not just one contract or one island’s missions.
- Carry the right map for exploration rewards. Persian Scimitars require treasure identified by the Restored Weathered Map.
- Check chest conditions. Captain Morgan’s and Cannon/Cannon-Barrel Pistols involve underwater chests; the Jiguey chest additionally needs the pirate leader’s key.
- Treat prices as current-game information. The 18,000-Reales Golden Flintlock price is a PowerPyx listing and may change with updates. Verify the store screen in your edition.
Non-DLC scope and availability
VGC’s ranking is explicitly focused on gear obtainable without DLC. Paid add-ons can contain stronger equipment, but they are not required for the recommendations in this guide. Keeping the main loadout non-DLC makes the progression routes—Great Inagua upgrades, Treasure Dealer exchanges, quests, contracts and exploration chests—usable for players who own the base game.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced launched on July 9, 2026, according to Ubisoft. Because stock, prices and item availability can be adjusted by updates, use the current in-game shop, quest reward screen and map markers as the final check when a listed item does not appear.
Bottom line: which weapon should you unlock first?
For most non-DLC players, upgrade the Great Inagua General Store and work toward Order of Gold pistol-swords, then finish the store to buy Golden Flintlock Pistols. Choose Matched Golden Swords instead if your plan is to parry and chain four takedowns. For stealth, build the Treasure Dealer and take Peaceful Means; for alternative progression, pursue Le Bourgeoys Blades, Spring-Steel Swords or the named chest rewards. The best setup is the one whose attack pattern and unlock route match the way you actually approach fights.
