acdblclkeditres.dll is an Autodesk application resource DLL, not a Windows system file. When Windows reports that acdblclkeditres.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, the safest repair is to restore the Autodesk CAD installation that owns it.
What acdblclkeditres.dll belongs to
| Item | Identification |
|---|---|
| File | acdblclkeditres.dll |
| Description | AcDblClkEditRes Resource DLL |
| Publisher | Autodesk |
| Category | Application file |
| Most strongly associated products | AutoCAD 2007 and AutoCAD LT 2007 |
| Normal location | The Autodesk application folder |
| Windows system file | No |
Public file inventories associate this DLL most strongly with AutoCAD 2007 and AutoCAD LT 2007. It may also belong to another AutoCAD-based product or vertical, including software built on AutoCAD. The filename alone cannot prove whether AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT, Architectural Desktop, Carlson software, or another Autodesk-based installation owns the copy on your computer.
Do not expect to find it in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64. Application DLLs normally stay beside the executable that loads them. Windows searches an unpackaged application’s directory early in the normal DLL search process, so placing a copy in a system folder is both unnecessary and risky. See Microsoft’s DLL search order documentation.
The exact version, size, and architecture reported by public DLL indexes are not consistent enough to use as a repair specification. A copy from the wrong AutoCAD release, language, or architecture can replace one error with an entry-point error or another load failure.

Fix 1: Repair the Autodesk installation
This is the most likely solution when the file was deleted, damaged, quarantined, or lost during an incomplete installation or uninstall.
Identify the affected program
- Read the full error dialog and note the executable named in it.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Details.
- If the Autodesk program appears briefly, right-click its process and select Open file location.
- If it closes too quickly, right-click the shortcut you normally use and select Properties.
- Check the Target field. The executable path usually identifies the owning product and installation folder.
- Check whether you have more than one AutoCAD-based product installed.
If the error appears when opening a drawing, right-click a .dwg file, select Open with, and check which application is selected. A stale file association can launch an older or partially removed AutoCAD installation.
Use Repair in Programs and Features
For an older Autodesk product using the classic installer:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Find the Autodesk product named in the shortcut or error.
- Select it and choose Uninstall/Change.
- Select Repair when the Autodesk maintenance window appears.
- Follow the prompts and restart Windows when finished.
- Launch the same Autodesk program again.
A successful repair should restore the missing application files and allow the program to start without the acdblclkeditres.dll message. Test the program using its normal shortcut and by opening a drawing if that is how the error originally appeared.

Do not copy a replacement DLL over the existing folder before trying the installer.
Uninstall and reinstall when Repair is unavailable
Newer Autodesk installation systems generally do not provide the old Repair option. In that case:
- Back up your drawings, templates, custom profiles, plot styles, and add-ins.
- Close all Autodesk programs.
- Open Settings with Windows key + I.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Find the affected Autodesk product.
- Select the three-dot menu and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Download or retrieve the same product from your Autodesk account, original installation media, or an Autodesk support-provided previous-version source.
- Install the matching release, language, and architecture.
- Restart Windows again and test the application.
For a very old product such as AutoCAD 2007, make sure the installation media matches the edition and language you actually own. A newer AutoCAD installer will not restore a file required by an older release.
Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can remove an application DLL after an update, scan, or change in detection rules.

- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an action involving
acdblclkeditres.dllor the Autodesk application folder. - Open the entry and review the detected path and action.
- Restore or allow the file only when it clearly came from your legitimate Autodesk installation.
- Run a full security scan.
- Repair the Autodesk installation afterward.
Third-party antivirus programs have their own quarantine screens. Open that product directly and search its quarantine or detection history for the exact filename.
Do not permanently disable antivirus protection to make AutoCAD start. If the security product repeatedly removes the file after a legitimate repair, update the security software and contact its vendor or Autodesk support before adding an exclusion. An exclusion that is too broad can expose unrelated files.
Fix 3: Confirm that the error is not a missing dependency
The message “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that acdblclkeditres.dll itself is absent. Windows may be unable to load a dependency required by that DLL.
Check the application directory:
- Return to the Autodesk installation folder using the shortcut’s Open file location command.
- Look for
acdblclkeditres.dll. - If it is absent, use the Autodesk repair or reinstall process.
- If it is present but the error continues, do not download a second copy.
- Note the complete error text, including the executable named in the dialog.
- Repair the complete application so its related files and dependencies are restored together.
A resource DLL is not automatically repaired by installing Visual C++ Redistributable packages, DirectX, or .NET. Install a runtime only when the Autodesk installer or a specific dependency error identifies it as required. The .dll extension alone is not evidence that a Microsoft runtime is missing.
Fix 4: Test another Windows user profile
A damaged profile, stale shortcut, or per-user AutoCAD setting can make the failure appear to be a missing DLL.
Create a test account
- Open Settings.
- Select Accounts.
- Select Other users.
- Choose Add account.
- Follow the prompts to create a local test account.
- Sign out of your normal account.
- Sign in to the test account.
- Launch AutoCAD from its installed shortcut, not from an old drawing association.
If the program works in the test account, the installation may be intact. Recreate the shortcut, repair the .dwg association, and reset or rebuild the affected Autodesk user profile. Do not delete your original profile until you have copied your files and confirmed that the new account works.
If the same error appears in both accounts, the problem is more likely to be the installation, quarantine, a missing dependency, or operating-system compatibility.
Fix 5: Consider AutoCAD 2007 compatibility
AutoCAD 2007 was designed for Windows 2000 and Windows XP-era systems. Autodesk states that AutoCAD 2007 is not supported on Windows 10. If this legacy release is being run on Windows 10 or Windows 11, restoring one DLL may not make the application reliable.

Before spending time on repeated DLL replacements:
- Confirm the exact AutoCAD release in Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Check whether the program is AutoCAD 2007, AutoCAD LT 2007, or another old AutoCAD-based product.
- Back up drawings and custom settings.
- Test the application in a properly backed-up compatible environment if the old release must be retained.
- Prefer a supported Autodesk release when your work permits it.
Compatibility mode may help an old installer or shortcut, but it does not turn an unsupported product into a supported one. To test it:
- Right-click the Autodesk executable or shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Choose a suitable older Windows version.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Test the application.
If compatibility mode changes the behavior, treat that as a diagnostic result rather than proof that the installation is fully supported.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components as a secondary check
acdblclkeditres.dll is associated with Autodesk software, not an established Windows-protected component. Windows repair commands are therefore secondary checks, not the primary fix.
First install pending Windows updates:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart when requested.
Then run DISM followed by SFC:
- Open the Start menu.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test AutoCAD again.
Microsoft documents this DISM and SFC repair sequence.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDISM and SFC repair protected Windows components. They do not normally recreate an Autodesk application DLL. If they report that Windows files were repaired but AutoCAD still shows the same error, return to the Autodesk repair or reinstall steps.
When manually hunting through system reports and repeating SFC/DISM leaves you unsure what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for issues and show what needs attention; its repair functions are handled by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling the Autodesk product remains the definitive fix for this application file.
Fix 7: Update drivers only when the complete error points to graphics
A graphics driver is not the normal cause of a missing acdblclkeditres.dll resource file. Do not reinstall drivers simply because AutoCAD is involved.
Driver work becomes reasonable when:
- The full error names a graphics component.
- AutoCAD starts but crashes during display initialization.
- Device Manager shows a warning icon.
- The problem began immediately after a graphics-driver change.
To inspect the driver:
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics adapter.
- Select Properties.
- Check the General tab for a device status error.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider and date.
- Use Update Driver only with a driver obtained from the computer or graphics-card manufacturer.
- Restart Windows and test AutoCAD.
If the failure began after an update, open the same Driver tab and select Roll Back Driver when available. Do not use a driver package merely because it has a similar name to the missing DLL.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
When checking drivers manually means hunting through several hardware vendors and guessing which package is stale, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify driver updates; installation is handled by the full version. It is optional and does not replace repairing the Autodesk installation when acdblclkeditres.dll is the actual missing file.
Fix 8: Check Windows Features only when the installer requires them
Windows Features are not a general repair for this Autodesk resource DLL. Do not enable random components in the hope that one supplies the file.

- Core Ultra 9 285K 3.7GHz (Up To 5.5GHz Turbo) 24 Core 125W
- 128GB DDR5 ECC Reg (2x64GB)
- GeForce RTX PRO 4500 Blackwell 32GB
- 10G + 2.5G Networking + WiFi 7
- Onboard AQtion AQC113C 10GbE LAN
Check them only if the Autodesk installer or the exact error identifies a required Windows component:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
optionalfeatures. - Press Enter.
- Review the feature named by the installer or error.
- Enable it only when you know it is required.
- Select OK.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
- Run the Autodesk repair or reinstall again.
Avoid enabling legacy components without a specific requirement. A Windows feature cannot substitute for the correct Autodesk product files.

Do not download the DLL from a random website
A download-site copy may contain malware, the wrong release, the wrong language, or the wrong architecture. It may also fail because the real problem is a missing dependency, a damaged installation, or an unsupported AutoCAD version.
Use the original Autodesk installation media, your Autodesk account, or Autodesk support for previous-version access. The correct installer restores the DLL together with its related files.
Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64
Those folders are not general-purpose storage for application DLLs. Copying an Autodesk file into a system directory can cause Windows to load the wrong copy for another program and can make later troubleshooting harder.
Do not run regsvr32 by default
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. acdblclkeditres.dll is identified as a resource DLL, and there is no established requirement to register it.
If you run regsvr32 and receive an entry-point error, that does not prove the file is missing. It usually means registration is not applicable. Microsoft documents the command’s purpose in its regsvr32 reference.
Do not install unrelated runtimes
The filename ending in .dll does not establish a connection to Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET. Install those components only when the product installer or a separate error specifically requires them.
Best Value
Do not use registry cleaners
Registry cleaners cannot reliably reconstruct an Autodesk installation. They can remove associations or configuration entries that AutoCAD needs, creating more work while leaving the missing file untouched.
Do not delete the Autodesk folder first
Manual deletion can remove shared components, profiles, add-ins, and uninstall information. Use Autodesk’s uninstall process, then reinstall from a matching source.
If the error remains after reinstalling
Work through these checks:
- Confirm the error names the expected Autodesk executable.
- Open the actual application folder and check whether the installer restored the file.
- Verify that the installed release, language, and architecture match the original product.
- Check antivirus quarantine again.
- Test another Windows user profile.
- Launch the executable directly rather than through an old shortcut.
- Review Autodesk installation logs for a failed component.
- Check whether an incomplete uninstall left multiple AutoCAD versions competing for file associations.
- Consider compatibility if the product is AutoCAD 2007 or another unsupported legacy release.
- Contact Autodesk support with the product name, release, complete error text, installation logs, and operating-system version.
If the dialog says “The specified module could not be found” while the DLL visibly exists, focus on dependencies and the complete installation rather than replacing the file again. If the dialog says “entry point not found,” suspect a mismatched release or architecture and reinstall the correct Autodesk product.
FAQ
Is acdblclkeditres.dll a Windows file?
No verified evidence identifies it as a Windows system file. It is associated with Autodesk CAD software and should normally be stored in the owning application’s folder.
Which program installs acdblclkeditres.dll?
The strongest public association is with AutoCAD 2007 and AutoCAD LT 2007. Another AutoCAD-based product may own it, so identify the executable and installation folder before repairing anything.
Should I download a replacement copy?
No. Use the matching Autodesk installer or original media. A random copy can be unsafe or incompatible.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Should I copy it into System32?
No. Keep application DLLs with the application that loads them.
Should I register it with regsvr32?
Not as a default fix. A resource DLL is not shown to require self-registration.
Why does Windows say the module is missing when the file is present?
A dependency of the DLL may be absent or incompatible. A mismatched Autodesk release can produce the same kind of load failure.
Will SFC repair this file?
Usually not. SFC repairs protected Windows components, while acdblclkeditres.dll belongs to Autodesk software. Run DISM and SFC only as secondary Windows checks.
Can AutoCAD 2007 work on Windows 11?
AutoCAD 2007 is a legacy release designed for much older Windows versions, and Autodesk does not support it on Windows 10. A supported Autodesk release or a compatible, backed-up legacy environment is safer than repeatedly replacing individual DLLs.
