What this file actually does
acdlg.dll is an application DLL associated with ArCon – vizuální architektura, an architectural planning and visualization program originally developed by mb Software AG. Its reported description is “ArCon Dialog-DLL für MFC-Dialoge.”
This is not a normal Windows component. It should normally be alongside the ArCon executable in the program’s installation folder, not in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.
The available public file record identifies it as a Win32 DLL, which indicates that the affected ArCon program is likely a 32-bit application. That does not establish that every ArCon release uses the same binary. The installer for the exact edition and release is the authoritative source.

The filename may appear in messages such as:
This application failed to start because acdlg.dll was not found.The file acdlg.dll is missing or corrupted.A required component is missing: acdlg.dll.The code execution cannot proceed because acdlg.dll was not found.acdlg.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.
The wording varies by Windows version and by the program that tried to load the DLL. “Not found” can also mean that Windows found acdlg.dll but could not load one of its dependencies.

Before changing anything, write down the full error text, the ArCon edition or language, the Windows version, and the folder where ArCon is installed. Also back up project files and custom catalogs.
Fix 1: Repair the installed ArCon application
Repair is the safest first step because it restores missing application files without deliberately replacing the installation with files from another release.
Use Windows Installed apps
- Close ArCon.
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for ArCon.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the matching entry.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Wait for Windows to finish.
- Restart Windows.
- Start ArCon from its normal shortcut.
Some traditional ArCon installers do not expose an Advanced options page. In that case, use the classic repair path:

- Enter
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select the ArCon entry.
- Choose Change, Uninstall/Change, or Repair.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows and test the program.
If there is no Repair button, do not remove the application immediately. Continue to the reinstall procedure below and locate the original installer first.
A successful repair normally allows ArCon to start without the acdlg.dll message. If the same message appears, inspect the installation folder before trying random replacements.
Fix 2: Reinstall the exact ArCon release
An ArCon DLL must match the executable and nearby application files. Mixing acdlg.dll from one release with an executable from another can produce a different loader error or cause the program to malfunction.
Use, in this order:
- The original ArCon CD, DVD, or installer archive
- The licensed download supplied with the product
- The current ArCon support provider or authorized vendor channel
Do not delete project files, templates, catalogs, or configuration folders unless the installer or vendor specifically instructs you to do so.

Reinstall safely
- Back up your ArCon projects to a separate folder or external drive.
- Locate the installer for the same ArCon edition, language, and release.
- If the installer offers Repair, use that first.
- If it offers Change or Modify, check whether the core program files are selected.
- If a full reinstall is required, note the current installation path.
- Uninstall ArCon only if the installer or support instructions require it.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the original installer.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Install to the original folder unless the vendor instructs otherwise.
- Restart Windows again.
- Launch ArCon using its installed shortcut.
If the program starts after reinstalling, open a sample project before opening an important production file. If the error continues, check whether acdlg.dll exists in the ArCon program folder and record the full path. Do not copy it into a Windows system folder.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security Protection history
Antivirus software can quarantine an application DLL. This is especially possible with older programs that were designed before current Windows security protections existed.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an entry mentioning ArCon,
acdlg.dll, or the ArCon installation folder. - Open the entry and review its location and threat details.
Restore or allow the file only when all of the following are true:
- It came from your genuine ArCon installer or an existing trusted installation.
- The file is located in the expected ArCon program folder.
- You have verified the installer’s source.
- You are not restoring a file from a temporary, download, or suspicious directory.
Microsoft warns that restoring a real threat can expose the device. If the file came from an unknown archive or suspicious folder and no genuine ArCon installation exists, do not restore it. Run a full Windows Security scan and obtain ArCon from the official support channel instead.
After restoring a verified file, start ArCon. If it is quarantined again, do not repeatedly restore it. Record the detection name and contact the ArCon support provider.
Fix 4: Confirm that the complete program was installed
A common cause is moving an ArCon executable to another PC instead of installing the complete application. The executable may need neighboring DLLs, resource files, configuration data, catalogs, and other modules.
To inspect the installation:
- Right-click the ArCon shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Select Open File Location.
- Look for
acdlg.dllin that folder or the application’s normal subfolders. - Do not move the file if it is present.
- Do not rename DLLs to make an error disappear.
If the shortcut points to a folder on an unavailable network drive, external disk, or old backup location, reinstall ArCon locally using the original installer. If the executable was copied from another computer, remove that copied shortcut and create a new shortcut from the installed program.
Fix 5: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
The available file record describes acdlg.dll as Win32. That points to a 32-bit ArCon application, even when ArCon is running on 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11.

A 64-bit version of Windows can run many 32-bit applications through its compatibility layer, but it does not make 32-bit application files interchangeable with 64-bit files.
Keep these rules in mind:
- Install the x86 or 32-bit ArCon release that matches your license and original media.
- Keep
acdlg.dllwith the ArCon executable that loads it. - Do not copy it to
C:WindowsSystem32. - Do not copy it to
C:WindowsSysWOW64. - Do not place different copies in both folders.
- Do not combine a DLL from one ArCon release with files from another.
System32 and SysWOW64 are protected Windows locations with special 32-bit and 64-bit redirection behavior. They are not general-purpose storage locations for application DLLs.
If ArCon was designed for an older Windows release, test compatibility only after restoring the complete installation:
- Right-click the ArCon shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Choose an older Windows version only if the vendor recommends it or the application previously required it.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Start ArCon.
If this changes the symptom but does not fix the program, record the result for ArCon support. Do not keep changing compatibility modes while mixing application files.

Fix 6: Determine whether another dependency is actually missing
A program can report acdlg.dll as unavailable when Windows cannot load a dependency required by that DLL. The file may be present and intact while another component is absent, incompatible, or blocked.
Check the complete message carefully. If it names another file, troubleshoot that file instead of replacing acdlg.dll.
For example, MSVCP*.dll and VCRUNTIME*.dll indicate Microsoft Visual C++ runtime components. Those are separate from acdlg.dll. Use Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable packages and select the architecture required by the application, commonly x86 for an older 32-bit program.
Installing a runtime will not recreate acdlg.dll. If the message continues to name acdlg.dll, return to the ArCon repair or reinstall procedure.

Fix 7: Repair broader Windows component corruption
DISM and System File Checker repair protected Windows components. They are not a normal method for obtaining a third-party ArCon DLL, but they are appropriate when Windows has wider corruption symptoms, such as multiple built-in tools failing or repeated system file errors.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes if User Account Control appears.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test ArCon again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If either command reports that it could not repair everything, save the result and continue with ArCon repair or vendor support. Do not assume that a successful SFC scan proves that acdlg.dll is correct.

System Restore can help when the problem began immediately after a driver installation, Windows change, failed application update, or other system modification.

- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
- Test ArCon.
System Restore does not replace the need for an original ArCon installer. It also does not normally remove personal project files, but you should still maintain a backup before proceeding.

A graphics or printer driver is not the usual cause of a missing acdlg.dll, but older architectural software may fail after a graphics-driver change or migration to new hardware. Consider this path only when ArCon reports graphics initialization errors, crashes after opening a project, or began failing immediately after a driver update.
To check drivers:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the listed graphics device.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Review the provider, date, and version.
- Use Roll Back Driver only if it is available and the problem began after that update.
- Otherwise select Update driver, then Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test ArCon.
For a printer-related ArCon workflow, also inspect Printers & scanners in Settings and install the driver supplied by the printer manufacturer. Do not use Device Manager to replace acdlg.dll.

Why regsvr32 is usually wrong
Do not run:
regsvr32 acdlg.dll
merely because the file has a .dll extension. regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. An application DLL loaded by ArCon does not become usable simply because it was registered.
If regsvr32 reports that the entry point is missing, that is expected for many ordinary application DLLs. It does not prove that the file is defective. Restore the complete ArCon installation instead.

Why random DLL downloads are unsafe
A replacement from a random DLL download site can have the wrong version, architecture, language, or dependencies. It may also be modified or bundled with unwanted software. Even a clean copy may not match the ArCon executable that is trying to load it.
Manual copying is appropriate only when the original ArCon installer, a verified backup, or the licensed support provider supplies the exact matching file and installation instructions. The safer source is the complete ArCon installer for the installed edition and release.

When to contact ArCon support
Contact the current ArCon support provider after recording:
- The complete error message
- ArCon edition, language, and release information
- Windows 10 or Windows 11 version
- ArCon installation path
- Whether
acdlg.dllis present - Whether Windows Security quarantined it
- Whether repair or reinstall completed
- Whether compatibility mode changed the result
- Whether the file has a valid digital signature
If no ArCon installation exists and acdlg.dll was found inside an unexpected downloaded archive, scan the system and do not restore the file blindly.
FAQ
Is acdlg.dll part of Windows?
No. It is associated with the third-party ArCon architectural-design application and should normally be installed in the ArCon program folder.
Can I copy acdlg.dll into System32?
No. That is usually the wrong repair. Install or repair the complete matching ArCon application instead.
Is acdlg.dll 32-bit or 64-bit?
The available public file record identifies it as Win32, so a 32-bit ArCon program is the likely consumer. The original vendor installer and binary metadata should take priority for a particular release.
Should I install Visual C++ Redistributable?
