Activision confirms that its team used generative AI tools to help develop some Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 in-game assets. The company has not identified which assets—or how many—were involved. Players have questioned some campaign calling cards because of their appearance, but Activision has not confirmed that those specific images were AI-generated.
What Activision has confirmed
Black Ops 7’s Steam disclosure says: “Our team uses generative AI tools to help develop some in game assets.” That confirms the use of generative AI tools in development, but it does not name any asset, provide a count, or say what share of the game’s art was affected. PCGamesN and GameSpot reproduced the disclosure.

Are the campaign calling cards AI-generated?
That has not been established. Reports and players drew attention to some campaign calling cards, describing their style as Ghibli-like, and questioned whether they were made with AI. But the Steam disclosure does not connect AI use to those images, and Activision has not publicly identified them as AI-assisted or AI-generated. PCGamesN, GameSpot, and Insider Gaming report the suspicion alongside the lack of asset-specific confirmation.
What Activision says about its creative process
In a statement reported on November 14, 2025, Activision said: “Like so many around the world, we use a variety of digital tools, including AI tools, to empower and support our teams to create the best gaming experiences possible for our players. Our creative process continues to be led by the talented individuals in our studios.” PCGamesN and Insider Gaming reported the statement.

This is the company’s characterization of its process. It does not independently establish how a particular calling card or other asset was made, or specify how AI tools contributed to any named asset.
What is still unknown
- Which Black Ops 7 assets used generative AI tools.
- How many assets were involved or what proportion of the game they represent.
- Whether the campaign calling cards questioned by players were AI-assisted or AI-generated.
The public disclosure answers whether Activision’s team used generative AI tools for some in-game assets: it did. It does not answer which assets, including the calling cards, were involved.

Activision’s official Black Ops 7 page lists a November 14, 2025 release and identifies Treyarch and Raven Software as the studios. It lists PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Battle.net, Steam, and Game Pass among the platforms.
