Physical editions: check your console’s disc drive
Physical editions are available for Xbox and PlayStation consoles, but they are not compatible with every console. Activision’s edition and compatibility guidance distinguishes the bundles as follows:
Rank #3
- Developed by Treyarch and Raven, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is a spy action thriller set in the early 90s, a period of transition and upheaval in global politics, characterized by the end of the Cold War and the rise of the United States as a single superpower.
- This is signature Black Ops across a cinematic single-player Campaign, a best-in-class Multiplayer experience, and the epic return of Round-Based Zombies.
- The Black Ops 6 Campaign provides dynamic moment-to-moment gameplay that includes a variety of play spaces with blockbuster set pieces and action-packed moments, high-stakes heists, and cloak-and-dagger spy activity.
- In a best-in-class Multiplayer experience, players will test their skills across 16 new maps at launch, including 12 core 6v6 maps and 4 Strike maps that can be played 2v2 or 6v6.
- Black Ops 6 also marks the epic return of Round-Based Zombies, the fan-favorite mode where players will take down hordes of the undead in two brand-new maps at launch. Post-launch, players can look forward to even more exciting maps and groundbreaking experiences dropping into both Multiplayer and Zombies.
| Physical edition | Compatibility |
|---|---|
| Xbox Cross-Gen Bundle | Playable on Xbox Series X and Xbox One; not playable on Xbox Series S. |
| PS5 edition | For PS5 only; a physical disc will not work on a digital-only PS5. |
| PS4 Cross-Gen bundle | Includes a PS5 digital version, but the disc is required to play that PS5 version. |
Before buying a physical copy, verify the exact platform and edition listed by the seller and make sure your console has a disc drive. If your console is an Xbox Series S or a digital-only PS5, choose a digital edition instead.
Does Black Ops 7 require an internet connection for Campaign?
Yes. Activision Support says texture streaming is used across all modes to reduce overall storage needs while delivering visuals, so a continuous internet connection is required even for Campaign. This applies even if you plan to play the Co-op Campaign solo.

Can you play Black Ops 7 split-screen?
Split-screen is supported on Xbox Series X|S and PS5. It is not supported on Xbox One or PS4. Console access to social features and all game modes except solo Co-op Campaign also requires PlayStation Plus or Game Pass Essential, according to Activision Support.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What are the PC requirements and setup details?
Activision’s November 4, 2025 PC article listed an SSD with 116 GB of available space as the launch storage requirement. That is a dated launch-era figure, not a guarantee of the current install size; check the current PC storefront or support information before installing.

The same article described more than 800 customizable graphics, gameplay, input, and interface settings, an in-game PC Benchmark Tool, TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot requirements, and support for a range of resolutions and ultrawide displays. Activision said supported Windows-based handhelds included the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. These are launch-era developer-published details, so confirm current compatibility and requirements before purchasing or troubleshooting.
What to check before choosing an edition
- Console generation: Match the Xbox or PlayStation edition to your console family.
- Disc drive: Physical copies require a compatible console with a disc drive; the Xbox Series S and digital-only PS5 cannot use them.
- Access route: Compare buying a digital or physical edition with playing through an active Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscription.
- Connection: Plan for continuous internet access, including in Campaign.
- PC setup: Check current system requirements and available SSD space rather than relying solely on the launch-era storage figure.
Activision’s description of the game
In Activision’s June 2025 announcement, Call of Duty General Manager Matt Cox said: “The Black Ops universe is amazing. The creativity and imagination that goes into the storytelling, the rich character depth, and the incredible moment-to-moment gameplay across all modes is really exceptional.” This is Activision’s promotional description, not an independent review.
