What Activision said about AI in Black Ops 7
In a statement to Insider Gaming on November 14, 2025, an Activision spokesperson said: “Like so many around the world, we use a variety of digital tools, including AI tools, to empower and support our teams to create the best gaming experiences possible for our players.” The spokesperson added: “Our creative process continues to be led by the talented individuals in our studios.” Insider Gaming reported the statement.
The response describes the company’s general approach: AI tools are among the digital tools used to support development, while studio staff lead the creative process. It does not say which assets involved AI, or whether any particular image was generated wholly or in part with it.
What the Steam AI disclosure confirms—and what it leaves open
The Steam listing for Black Ops 7 includes this developer-provided AI Generated Content Disclosure: “Our team uses generative AI tools to help develop some in game assets.” The game’s Steam page confirms that generative AI tools were used somewhere in the development of some in-game assets.

The disclosure does not name those assets, count them, explain how the tools were used, or establish whether any finished asset was generated entirely by AI. It therefore cannot, by itself, verify a claim about a particular calling card.
Which calling cards did players question?
A November 14, 2025 report by Insider Gaming described player allegations that generative AI may have been used for challenge calling cards, including “Over Here Buddy,” “Peekaboo,” and “Reeled In.” Those names refer to the images players questioned; the report did not establish their production history. The report presents the cards as allegations, not confirmed AI-made assets.

Did a later Call of Duty update clarify the cards?
No. The official Call of Duty team’s December 9, 2025 update covered player feedback, a free trial, seasonal support, and future release strategy, but did not identify assets made with AI. It is not an asset-level clarification. The update does not resolve which, if any, of the questioned cards used generative AI.
As of the latest cited reporting, the specific production history of the named cards remains unconfirmed. The established facts are narrower: Steam discloses generative AI use for some in-game assets, and Activision says its studio teams lead the creative process.
