The developers said they would comply with a cease-and-desist order received on August 15, 2024, and end the project permanently.
What was H2M?
H2M was an unofficial fan-made mod intended to bring the multiplayer experience of the original Modern Warfare II to Modern Warfare Remastered. It was not a new, authorized Activision release. The project reportedly required players to own Modern Warfare Remastered; owning that game does not provide access to H2M, which never launched. GameSpot’s report described the project and its required base game.

When was H2M canceled?
GameSpot reported on August 15, 2024, that Activision had sent the H2M team a cease-and-desist order. The project had been planned for release on August 16, leaving it canceled before its debut.
The developers’ August 15 statement, reproduced by GameSpot, said: “Today, our team members received a Cease & Desist order on behalf of Activision Publishing in relation to the H2M-Mod project. We are complying with this order and shutting down all operations immediately and permanently.”

Did Activision say H2M threatened Black Ops 6 sales?
That rationale has not been independently confirmed. H2M team member Watchful Wolf later told PC Gamer that the order cited the mod’s growing popularity and its proximity to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, saying Activision did not want it interfering with possible sales. PC Gamer reported Watchful Wolf’s account; GameSpot noted that the explanation was difficult to verify. The reviewed coverage does not reproduce the full letter or provide an official Activision explanation, so the sales concern should be understood as the team member’s account, not an established statement of Activision’s motive.

What happened to Modern Warfare Remastered sales?
GameSpot reported that Steam sales of Modern Warfare Remastered rose significantly as players anticipated H2M. The report supplied no numeric sales figure or percentage, so the increase cannot be quantified from that coverage.
