His Discord message described a possible consequence, not a plan to shut down—and he later clarified that the studio was not facing an immediate financial crisis.
What did the Ori developer say about the game’s future?
Moon Studios is best known for the Ori games, but the controversy concerned its early access action RPG No Rest for the Wicked. On May 10, 2025, Mahler wrote in the game’s Discord that review bombing could reduce sales enough to leave the studio unable to keep making updates.

In the Discord message quoted by Laptop Mag, Mahler said it was possible the studio “won’t be around in a couple of months” if review bombing meant people stopped buying the game and Moon Studios stopped making money. The statement was conditional: it described a risk Mahler said could follow review bombing, not confirmation that Moon Studios planned to close.
Did Moon Studios say it was shutting down?
No. After the Discord post, Mahler wrote on X that the studio was “not in immediate financial danger.” He said he had been speaking up about industry behavior he considered unbecoming. Laptop Mag reported on May 11, 2025, that Mahler directed the outlet to his X post when it contacted him.

The two statements address different things: the Discord message warned about a possible future consequence, while the X post clarified the studio’s immediate financial position at that time. Neither statement establishes Moon Studios’ current financial condition or status in October 2026.
Why were players leaving negative Steam reviews?
Laptop Mag reported that negative Steam reviews increased after The Breach, a substantial update for No Rest for the Wicked, appeared on May 1, 2025. The report cited player concerns about difficulty and quality-of-life changes. Mahler also acknowledged that some negative reviews contained feedback the studio intended to address.

That distinction matters: player criticism is not automatically review bombing. The report does not provide a review-count or percentage breakdown that would establish the scale or composition of the negative reviews, and it does not show that every negative review was malicious.

- Confirmed in Laptop Mag’s account: The Breach update appeared May 1, 2025; Mahler posted in the game’s Discord on May 10; and he later said on X that the studio was not in immediate financial danger.
- Not established by that report: Moon Studios’ current finances, whether it is at risk of closing now, and the game’s present Steam review sentiment.
