What Avowed is—and where to play it
Avowed is a fantasy role-playing game developed by Obsidian Entertainment. Xbox’s February 17, 2026 anniversary announcement lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, ROG Xbox Ally handhelds, Xbox Cloud, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, and Steam as platforms. Check your regional storefront for current availability, editions, and prices.
The game originally launched on February 18, 2025. Its PS5 edition became available on February 17, 2026, according to the same Xbox announcement. Xbox described Avowed as a day-one Game Pass release at launch, but that launch-era detail does not establish whether it remains in the subscription catalog today; check the live catalog before choosing that route.
Why playing it can change your expectations
Avowed’s appeal may come into focus through the way its decisions are framed. In an Xbox Wire interview, Obsidian Region Director Berto Ritger said choices and actions could affect “the future of entire settlements, individual people, groups of people — the whole spectrum basically.” That describes the intended reach of player decisions; it does not mean every choice has the same scale or that every consequence is immediately visible.

Its world structure is another useful expectation-setter. PC Gamer’s review describes Avowed as a collection of discrete open zones surrounding a compact critical path, with optional side quests. That is one reviewer’s characterization, not a universal critical consensus. It suggests a different proposition from a single seamless open world: exploration is organized into distinct areas, while side content can extend a more focused main journey.

The title promises a personal response, and the strongest version of that response is specific rather than borrowed. Say what you actually experienced while playing—perhaps a decision that stayed with you, a particular stretch of exploration, or how the game’s structure worked for your preferred pace. Do not claim that a feature won you over unless it really did.

For anyone deciding whether to play now, check the relevant storefront and subscription catalog rather than relying on launch-era availability or outdated prices.
