After Us is a single-player platforming adventure about Gaia, a journey through a surreal world shaped by human impact, and the souls of extinct animals she seeks to recover. It launched on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on May 23, 2023. Whether it suits you depends on your interest in that ecological premise and, on PC, whether you have a controller and meet the published requirements.
What kind of game is After Us?
Official store descriptions present After Us as a single-player platforming adventure. You guide Gaia through an abstract, post-human world, searching for the souls of extinct animals and restoring life. The devastated environments and the threats called Devourers are tied to human impact in the game’s premise. These descriptions establish the broad setup, but not enough detail to judge the depth or feel of its moment-to-moment mechanics.

Piccolo Studio developed the game, and Untold Tales published it, according to Steam. Game director Jordi Ministral said at launch that the team sought “to make a game that inspires and challenges players”; that is the developer’s stated intention, not independent evidence of how every player will experience it. Is After Us worth playing?
It is a plausible fit if you want a solo platforming adventure with a surreal setting and an ecological story at its center. The official descriptions support that premise, but they do not establish a critical consensus or provide enough evidence to promise a particular level of challenge, pacing, or platforming depth. Consider the premise and your preferred platform before deciding; the available evidence does not support a definitive verdict for every player.

Store ratings can offer a limited snapshot, but they are not interchangeable review scores. When checked for this article, Steam displayed an all-time summary of 84% positive from 398 reviews, while the US PlayStation listing showed a 3.78/5 average from about 3.1K ratings. These are separate storefront populations and rating systems, and they can change. Check each live listing for current figures: Steam and PlayStation.
Platforms and release date
After Us became available on May 23, 2023, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, according to Take-Two’s launch announcement. The US PlayStation listing also identifies the PS5 version and that release date. Store availability and details can vary by territory, so check the storefront for your region.
