NCSoft says Aion 2 exceeded 400,000 concurrent users when its global service began on October 5, 2026. That is the publisher’s reported launch peak, not an independently audited count—and it shows a large opening, not that the game ranks among 2026’s most-played titles or has sustained that audience.
What the 400,000-player figure means
In an October 6 announcement, NCSoft said that “with the start of global service, the peak number of concurrent users surpassed 400,000.” The figure refers to players online at the same time around the global launch; it is not a count of unique accounts, downloads, or everyone who has played. NCSoft did not provide a platform-by-platform breakdown, so the announcement does not establish how many were on Steam versus PURPLE. NCSoft’s announcement.
This supports calling Aion 2’s global opening substantial by concurrent-player scale. It does not, on its own, prove that the game was among 2026’s most-played games: that would require a defined comparison, such as comparable peak figures across games or a consistent measure over a stated period.
When and where Aion 2 launched
The global service began on October 5, 2026 (local date), with PC distribution through Steam and NCSoft’s PURPLE platform. NCSoft lists service regions in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia (Japan), and says the game supports eight languages. This was not Aion 2’s first launch in every territory. NCSoft’s February 2026 financial release records an earlier Korean launch on November 19, 2025. NCSoft’s financial releases.
What kind of game is it?
Steam describes Aion 2 as a free-to-play PC MMORPG centered on aerial combat and faction warfare. Its store listing says the world is 36 times larger than the original and describes more than 200 dungeons, including solo challenges and content for five- and ten-player groups. Steam also marks the game as having in-app purchases. The available official details do not establish the full global monetization model or whether purchases affect competitive balance, so the free-to-play label alone cannot answer those questions.
How to read the later player count
When accessed on October 7, 2026, Aion 2’s Steam community page showed 267,465 players “In-Game.” That is a changing, point-in-time Steam display, not the launch peak and not an all-platform total. What the launch says—and does not say—about 2026
NCSoft also reported that Aion 2 led Steam’s global Top Sellers chart during early access and ranked first in Steam’s Popular New Releases and Trending Free charts as of October 6. These are company-reported placements on specific Steam charts, not an annual most-played ranking. Early access began September 30 through Founder’s Packs, five days before general global service. The available figures establish strong launch interest, but they do not supply a like-for-like comparison against other games released in 2026 or evidence that the peak persisted. The careful conclusion is that Aion 2 opened with a publisher-reported peak above 400,000 concurrent users—not that it has been proven one of the year’s most-played games.

What the AI disclosure establishes
Steam’s store listing includes a developer disclosure for AI-generated content. The retrieved listing does not specify which assets or production workflows used generative AI, so the disclosure establishes that one exists but does not substantiate the broader “AI-heavy” characterization.
