Use a training dummy to compare rotations and builds under repeatable conditions; use live enemies to find out whether those results hold up during movement, mechanics, survival demands, and group play. A dummy result is a controlled comparison—not a promise of the damage you will deal to a boss.
What each test can tell you
AION 2 includes skill chaining and playstyle customization, with PvE activities ranging from solo instances to raids, so a build may need to work under very different conditions. The official AION 2 site describes those combat and activity systems but does not prescribe a build-testing protocol.

This is a practical comparison framework, not an official in-game scoring rubric.
How to compare two builds or rotations
- Choose one question. Decide whether you are testing a gear change, skill specialization, rotation, burst timing, survivability, or contribution in a live activity. Avoid changing several things at once.
- Write down the baseline. Record class, level, gear, skills and specializations, region and game patch, target, buffs, trial duration, and whether you are solo or grouped. These controls make a comparison easier to interpret; they are not an official required protocol.
- Run a repeatable dummy trial. Use the same target, buffs, duration, and rotation. Repeat the attempt several times. Compare output alongside execution: missed skills, idle time, cooldown alignment, and whether you can reproduce the sequence.
- Change one factor. Compare the new gear, skill, or rotation against the baseline while keeping other conditions steady. If several variables change together, you cannot tell which one explains the result.
- Validate in the intended activity. Test the promising setup against the relevant live content. Note damage uptime, movement losses, survival, mechanics handled, and useful party contribution—not just a damage figure.
- Keep PvE and PvP separate. NCSOFT said its March 25, 2026 class update separated PvP and PvE damage calculations. A result in one mode should not be treated as a reliable ranking in the other. Read the official update for that patch context.
Why dummy damage can differ from boss damage
A dummy trial holds many conditions steady; a live encounter does not. A boss can move, change targets, force you out of range, or require time spent handling mechanics. Party support and the need to manage enemy attention, recovery, utility, and safe positioning also shape what a character can contribute. The AION 2 Wiki party guide, dated September 29, 2026, discusses those group roles but does not claim a universal best party, damage threshold, or build.

Target conditions can affect damage measurements too. Aion 2 Maps reports that, with the same gear, its testing measured Damage Boost at 0.40% damage per 1% on a dummy and 0.53% on a boss. That is a community guide’s reported result, not an official coefficient or a conversion rule for your character: the target, method, patch, and region matter. For that reason, do not multiply a dummy result by a fixed factor to predict a boss parse. Compare builds under the same conditions, then judge the chosen setup in the encounter where you intend to use it.

Dummy features, regional differences, and overlays
Some dummies may fight back
A report on Korea’s July 22, 2026 patch says some town and Legion-base dummies were replaced with attack-skill dummies that use skills when a player is nearby. This could help with reaction practice, but it is regional patch information, not evidence that every region or client has the feature. Check the dummy in your own game and record its behavior before comparing attempts. The Korean patch report describes the change.
Optional overlay tracking
Orbynia Live says its Windows overlay provides damage and skill breakdowns, fight history, and training-dummy attempt comparison. Its product page also says HPS, aDPS, and rDPS are unavailable. These are vendor-described features, not independent verification of measurement accuracy; check current compatibility and behavior for your region and client before relying on the figures. Re-test after balance changes
Class balance changes can make an old comparison a poor guide to the current game. NCSOFT’s March 25, 2026 release announced a class rebalance and separate PvP/PvE damage calculations; the July 22, 2026 Korea patch report also documents a dummy-behavior change in that region. When sharing or reusing a result, include the region and patch date along with the build and trial conditions.
The available sources do not establish an authoritative universal DPS target, a dummy-to-boss conversion, or one best build for every class and encounter. A high dummy result can help identify a rotation worth testing, but it cannot settle how well that build handles a particular live fight.
