Is AION 2 a sequel or a remake?
It is a sequel set two centuries after the original AION, according to NCSOFT’s 2025 announcement. The new setting leaves room for the series’ familiar conflict to continue without retelling the first game’s story. NCSOFT describes AION 2 as an evolution of the original rather than a replacement for it.

The original AION has changed through many updates, so there is no single current version that serves as a fair, fixed comparison point. The clearest contrast is between the original game’s established identity and the new sequel’s stated priorities: broader traversal, more hands-on combat, and a larger range of activities.
How have the world and exploration changed?
NCSOFT says AION 2’s world is more than 36 times larger than the original’s. That figure is the publisher’s comparison; it is not an independently verified measurement, and the announcement does not establish how the comparison was calculated.

The more tangible design change is movement. NCSOFT says players can fly freely in each region and explore underwater, which the publisher identifies as a new capability compared with the original. The aim is to make the world itself a larger part of play, rather than treating travel only as a way to reach the next combat encounter.
What changed in combat and classes?
The announced class lineup carries recognizable AION roles into the sequel while emphasizing manual combat and hit confirmation, without auto-combat. The original eight archetypes named in NCSOFT’s 2025 announcement are:

These names describe the initial announced roster, not a promise that every skill or balance detail remains unchanged. Subsequent class balancing and new skills show that the live game has continued to evolve since that preview.
What PvE and PvP content does AION 2 offer?
The sequel’s content is not limited to one kind of dungeon run. NCSOFT’s August 2025 overview described solo, party, competitive PvP, and casual modes, as well as open-world events. It also presented Fire Temple as a reimagined dungeon; the official AION 2 site lists Fire Temple among its expeditions.

NCSOFT initially advertised more than 200 dungeons spanning solo play and groups of four or eight. That was a preview-era figure, not a verified current dungeon total. The official site’s named expeditions establish that dungeons are part of the game, but do not by themselves confirm the original advertised count.
Are Elyos and Asmodians still in AION 2?
Yes. The Elyos–Asmodian conflict remains central to AION 2’s identity. However, not every PvP mode is organized around those races. NCSOFT’s March 2026 update describes Chaotic Abyss as a mode in which players are divided into West and East forces at the server level, while Spacetime Rift retains race-based matchmaking.

That distinction matters if you expect every large-scale fight to follow the original faction-versus-faction structure: the sequel keeps that identity, but its live PvP design also includes other ways to divide players.
Where and when can you play AION 2?
NCSOFT reported that the global PC service launched on October 5, 2026, through Steam and PURPLE, with servers in North America, South America, Europe, and Japan. The official Japanese global site also gives October 5 as the launch date. This followed the game’s November 19, 2025 launch in Korea and Taiwan.

The global release is for PC. Specific minimum and recommended PC requirements were not established in the official information cited here, so do not assume that a particular computer or graphics card will run it without checking the current system requirements for your region.

NCSOFT described player trading in August 2025 as using in-game currency rather than premium currency. That was the developer’s description at the time, not a guarantee that every later feature or regional economy follows the same rule.
In June 2026, NCSOFT said the membership system for Korea and Taiwan had been consolidated from three tiers to one. That change is specific to those services. The available official information does not establish the full global membership, store, or monetization terms, so check the terms shown for the global service rather than assuming the Korean or Taiwanese setup applies.
