Which MMORPG should you play?
Choose Throne and Liberty if you want an immediately playable MMORPG with clearly advertised solo dungeons, group PvE, battlegrounds, territory fights and castle sieges. Choose AION 2 if its setting, class-based character selection and promise of walking, flying and swimming through its world appeal more—and first confirm that it has launched in your region.
This is a comparison of official descriptions, not a hands-on review. Those descriptions establish different features and structures, but do not show which game performs better, has fairer monetization, or is more enjoyable.

Is AION 2 out yet?
AION 2 launched in Korea and Taiwan on November 19, 2025, according to NC’s announcement. For its global service, however, the official teaser site lists October 5, 2026. That date is two days after the October 3, 2026, timestamp used here; check the official site and your regional store for current availability rather than treating the announced date as proof that the game is live where you are.

How are character builds different?
AION 2: choose from classes
NC describes AION 2 as having eight classes, alongside manual combat, PvE content and detailed character customization. This supports a class-selection approach to building a character, but the official description cited here does not establish how those classes compare in practice. NC’s announcement.

Throne and Liberty: combine two weapons
Throne and Liberty describes roles as something players shape by equipping any two weapons, with weapon mastery as part of the system. That is a different stated build structure from AION 2’s eight-class framing; the official descriptions do not establish that either system is deeper or better. Official gameplay details.
Which game is better for PvE or solo play?
Throne and Liberty lists a broader range of group sizes and activities
Its official gameplay page lists solo dungeons, six-player co-op dungeons and boss raids. That gives solo players and groups several advertised PvE formats, though the feature list alone does not show how much content can be completed solo or how progression feels. Official gameplay page.

AION 2 advertises small-party dungeons and companion utility
The global teaser lists four dungeons for up to five players. It also describes companions that can become mounts and offer benefits such as auto-looting. These details support a small-party PvE option and practical companion functions; they do not establish that all dungeons or companions work the same way. AION 2 global teaser.
The official AION 2 details cited here do not provide an equally broad account of its full endgame, so they are not enough to compare the games’ endgame depth or long-term PvE progression.

Which one is better for PvP?
Throne and Liberty has the clearer official PvP pitch. Its gameplay page names 24v24 battlegrounds, guild control of Boonstones and Riftstones, and Castle Sieges. Those features make it the better-supported match for players specifically seeking organized battleground and guild-versus-guild competition. They do not mean every player must join a guild or enjoy PvP. Official gameplay page.
The cited AION 2 material establishes its factions and other features, but does not provide comparable detail about PvP modes. On this evidence, it would be premature to call one game’s PvP better in practice.

How do the worlds and traversal differ?
AION 2 carries forward the conflict between the Elyos and Asmodians. NC’s executive producer described a world where players can “walk, fly, and swim” across what they see. The official framing puts the setting and traversal at the center of the game’s identity. NC’s announcement.
Throne and Liberty’s gameplay page describes morphing for land, air and sea traversal. It also highlights weather-sensitive content and day-and-night changes. These features make exploration part of its pitch too, but the two descriptions do not establish a direct comparison of world size or exploration quality. Official gameplay page.
What platforms and service changes should you consider?
Throne and Liberty platforms
The official launch announcement names PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It also describes in-game text and voice chat alongside guild activities. Confirm current regional availability and platform details before installing. Official launch announcement.
Announced Western operator transition
On August 12, 2026, the official Western service update said Amazon Game Studios planned to transition live operations to FirstSpark Games/NC in Q4 2026. The notice said accounts, characters, progression, inventory and existing Steam or console access were to remain, with cross-play continuing. It described cross-progression between Steam and NC’s PURPLE platform, but not between other platforms. Since the transition was still in the future relative to October 3, 2026, check the notice for revised timing and current instructions before making account or platform plans. Can you judge monetization before choosing?
Not confidently from these official details. AION 2’s teaser lists paid Founder’s Packs with advanced access, membership, cosmetics and items, but it does not establish the final global economy or show how paid content affects play. The cited information does not provide a comparable basis for judging Throne and Liberty’s monetization or settling pay-to-win concerns for either game.
