aires.dll is an Adobe Illustrator application file, not a Windows system DLL. If Windows says aires.dll is missing, not found, or could not be loaded, repair the affected Illustrator installation rather than downloading a replacement from a random DLL website.
The safest result is a working Illustrator installation containing the copy supplied by Adobe for that exact release.

What aires.dll is
Public file metadata describes aires.dll as Adobe Illustrator 11.0 Resource, with Adobe Systems, Inc. or Adobe Inc. listed as the publisher. The filename is associated with Adobe Illustrator, although the description does not mean every copy belongs only to Illustrator 11.
Reported catalog records associate the file with several Illustrator generations:

| 16.0.0.646 | 32-bit | 1.97 MB | Illustrator CS6 |
These records are useful for identification, not for choosing a download. Adobe does not publish a universal public version table for every aires.dll release, and filename-only matching is unsafe.
aires.dll is not established as:
- A Windows component
- A Visual C++ Redistributable file
- A file that belongs in
C:WindowsSystem32 - A general-purpose game runtime
- A DLL that should normally be registered with
regsvr32
It normally belongs beside the relevant Illustrator executable or in that installation’s support or resource directory.
Read the exact error before changing anything
The wording gives you an important clue:
- “The program can’t start because aires.dll is missing from your computer” usually means the file is absent, quarantined, or the installation is incomplete.
- “This application failed to start because aires.dll was not found” points to the same general problem.
- “Error loading aires.dll. The specified module could not be found” can mean
aires.dllexists but one of its dependencies is missing. - “Aires.dll could not be located” can indicate a wrong installation path or mismatched Illustrator files.
- “The code execution cannot proceed because aires.dll was not found” usually requires Illustrator repair or reinstallation.
- “aires.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error” suggests corruption, an incompatible build, a damaged installation, or a file copied from another release.
Also check whether the dialog actually names another file, such as VCRUNTIME140.dll, VCRUNTIME140_1.dll, MSVCP140.dll, VCRUNTIMExx.dll, or MSVCP110.dll. Those are different problems and may require the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall Illustrator from Adobe
For an application DLL, this is the strongest first fix. It restores the correct file, its dependencies, its directory structure, and the matching Illustrator executable together.

Save any custom Illustrator workspaces, actions, brushes, plug-ins, templates, and preferences that you need. Do not copy the entire old Illustrator program folder back after reinstalling. That can reintroduce the damaged or mismatched DLL.
If Illustrator is still open on another machine or account, make sure important documents are saved before continuing.
Remove the affected Illustrator version
- Close Illustrator and other Adobe applications.
- Open the Creative Cloud desktop application.
- Select Apps or All Apps.
- Find Illustrator.
- Select the three-dot More actions menu beside it.
- Choose Uninstall.
- When prompted, choose whether to keep preferences. If the failure began after a preference or plug-in change, removing the preferences is usually the cleaner test.
- Restart Windows.
If you use an older standalone Illustrator installation, remove it through Settings > Apps > Installed apps or Control Panel > Programs and Features, depending on how it was installed. Use the original Adobe installer or legitimate installation media afterward.
Install Illustrator again
- Open the official Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application.
- Go to Apps > All Apps.
- Find Illustrator.
- Select Install.
- Allow the installation to complete without closing Creative Cloud.
- Restart Windows once more.
- Launch Illustrator before restoring plug-ins, copied program files, or old preference folders.
How to tell whether it worked
Illustrator should start without the aires.dll dialog. The new installation should contain its own aires.dll in the Illustrator application or support directory. Do not move that file to another folder.
If the same error returns immediately after a clean reinstall, continue with the quarantine, architecture, security software, and installation checks below. Reinstalling repeatedly without checking those causes rarely helps.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security Protection History
Windows Security or third-party endpoint protection may have removed or quarantined aires.dll. This is especially likely when the error appeared after an update, disk cleanup, security scan, or installation change.
- Open the Start menu.
- Search for Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
aires.dllor the Illustrator installation directory. - Expand the event and inspect the original file path, detection name, date, and action.
- Confirm that the path belongs to a genuine Adobe Illustrator installation.
Do not restore a file merely because its name matches. Microsoft warns that restoring a real threat can expose the computer.
Restore the file only when all of the following are true:

- The original path is inside the expected Illustrator directory.
- The detection is confirmed as a false positive.
- Your security software and Windows are fully updated.
- You have no reason to suspect that the Illustrator installer or application folder was modified.
If the path is unusual, the file is unsigned when the surrounding Adobe files are signed, or the detection remains unclear, leave it quarantined and reinstall Illustrator from Adobe instead.
After reinstalling, add an exclusion only if your security administrator or antivirus vendor confirms that it is appropriate. Broad exclusions for the entire drive are unsafe.
Fix 3: Match the Illustrator architecture and release
A 64-bit Windows computer does not automatically require a 64-bit aires.dll. The architecture of the Illustrator executable determines which DLL is correct.
A 32-bit Illustrator installation can run on 64-bit Windows and needs its matching 32-bit application files. A 64-bit Illustrator installation needs the 64-bit files supplied with that release.

- A file from one Illustrator release with a similarly named file from another
Check Windows architecture
- Press Windows key + I.
- Select System.
- Select About.
- Review System type.
This tells you about Windows, not necessarily the Illustrator executable. It is only one part of the diagnosis.
Check the Illustrator installation
- Open Creative Cloud.
- Select Apps > All Apps.
- Find Illustrator and note the installed release.
- Open Illustrator’s installation location through its shortcut or Creative Cloud options.
- Look for
aires.dllin the application’s own directory or support/resources directory. - Right-click the DLL and select Properties.
- Review the Details and Digital Signatures tabs when available.
A missing file, a zero-byte file, or a file in a different Illustrator directory indicates an installation problem. A file that belongs to an older release is not a valid substitute.
If you have several Illustrator versions installed, launch each one from its own shortcut. A shortcut pointing to an old executable while Creative Cloud manages a newer installation can make the diagnosis confusing.
Fix 4: Install Visual C++ only when the error names it
Do not install Visual C++ merely because aires.dll is missing. There is no evidence that aires.dll is part of the Visual C++ Redistributable.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Use the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable when the error specifically names a Microsoft runtime file such as VCRUNTIME140.dll, VCRUNTIME140_1.dll, MSVCP140.dll, VCRUNTIMExx.dll, or MSVCP110.dll.
Download the supported packages from Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable page. Microsoft provides separate packages for:
- x64 applications
- x86 applications
- ARM64 devices
For a 32-bit Illustrator executable on 64-bit Windows, install the x86 runtime. For a 64-bit Illustrator executable, install x64. Both can coexist, and removing every existing runtime is unnecessary and potentially disruptive.
Repair an installed runtime
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable.
- Select the relevant package’s three-dot menu.
- Choose Modify.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows.
If the runtime is missing, install the matching Microsoft package, restart, and test Illustrator again. If the dialog still names aires.dll rather than a runtime file, return to Illustrator repair instead of repeatedly reinstalling Visual C++.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components only when broader problems exist
System File Checker repairs protected Windows files. It does not normally recreate an ordinary Adobe application DLL. Use these commands when other Windows applications also fail, Windows updates are damaged, or system components show signs of corruption.
First install pending Windows updates and restart.
Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Enter:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Press Enter.
- Wait for the command to finish.
- Restart Windows if requested.
Run SFC
Open an elevated Command Prompt again and enter:
sfc /scannow
Press Enter and wait for verification to reach 100 percent. Restart Windows afterward.
If SFC reports that it repaired files, test Illustrator. If it reports that it could not repair some files, run DISM again, restart, and repeat SFC once. Persistent component errors need broader Windows troubleshooting, not a downloaded aires.dll.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can waste time. Outbyte PC Repair provides a free scan that shows what it identifies, while repair is handled by the full version; it is optional, and reinstalling Illustrator remains the definitive fix for this application-owned DLL.

Fix 6: Reset preferences and test plug-ins
A damaged preference file or third-party plug-in can prevent Illustrator from loading its resources correctly. This is more likely when Illustrator works for one Windows user but not another, or when the error started after installing a plug-in.
Test without third-party plug-ins
- Close Illustrator.
- Hold Shift while launching Illustrator, if your installed release supports plug-in bypass through that startup method.
- If Illustrator starts, close it again.
- Move third-party plug-ins temporarily out of Illustrator’s plug-in directory.
- Launch Illustrator normally.
Restore plug-ins one at a time. The one that brings the error back is the likely cause. Do not delete Adobe’s own files while performing this test.

Reset preferences
The exact shortcut differs by Illustrator release, but the goal is to reset or rename the Illustrator preferences folder rather than deleting it immediately.
- Close Illustrator.
- Back up the Illustrator preferences folder.
- Rename it by adding
.oldto the folder name. - Start Illustrator.
- Test before copying any old preferences back.
If Illustrator starts with fresh preferences, the DLL may have been present all along and the failure was caused by configuration or a plug-in. Rebuild preferences gradually rather than restoring the complete old folder at once.
Fix 7: Test whether only one Windows profile is affected
A profile-specific failure does not justify repairing Windows for every user.
- Open Settings.
- Select Accounts.
- Select Other users.
- Choose Add account.
- Create a temporary local test account.
- Sign in to that account.
- Launch Illustrator.
If Illustrator works there, the installation may be healthy. Focus on the original profile’s permissions, Adobe preferences, plug-ins, and user-specific security policies.
If Illustrator fails for every account, the installation, security software, architecture, or Windows environment is more likely responsible.
Fix 8: Check security software, permissions, and disk health
If reinstalling fails or the new aires.dll disappears again, something may be blocking or removing the file.

Check these areas:
- Review Windows Security Protection History again.
- Check third-party antivirus or endpoint-security quarantine logs.
- Ask a workplace administrator whether application control is blocking Adobe files.
- Confirm that the Windows account can read the Illustrator installation directory.
- Check that the drive has free space.
- Look for disk errors or repeated installer failures in Windows Event Viewer.
- Avoid installing Illustrator into a manually copied or restored program folder.
- Do not restore an old application directory after reinstalling.
If an installer repeatedly reproduces the failure, collect the Adobe installation logs and the security detection details before contacting Adobe support. Those records can show whether the file was never created, was removed after installation, or failed because another dependency could not load.
What not to do
Do not download a loose DLL
Random DLL download sites can provide malware, a modified file, the wrong Illustrator release, the wrong architecture, or a file with no matching dependencies. Even a clean file may not fix the damaged installation that caused the error.
Do not place a downloaded aires.dll in:
C:WindowsSystem32
Do not place it in C:WindowsSysWOW64 either. Those folders are not general storage locations for application DLLs.
The safe source is the official Adobe installer or legitimate Adobe installation media for the affected Illustrator release.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDo not run regsvr32 as a generic repair
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A resource DLL is normally loaded by the application when needed.
Running:
regsvr32 aires.dll
does not recreate a missing file, repair a mismatched Illustrator installation, or supply missing dependencies. A registration error is not evidence that the DLL needs registration.
Do not use SFC to replace Adobe files
SFC protects Windows system files. It does not maintain ordinary files installed by Adobe. Run it for wider Windows corruption, not as the primary response to an Illustrator-only error.
Do not copy files from another Illustrator installation
Even when two files share the name aires.dll, their version, architecture, dependencies, and expected directory may differ. Copying from CS6 to a newer release, or from another computer, can turn a missing-file error into an invalid-image or entry-point error.
Recommended Free Tools
Do not disable antivirus permanently
Temporarily disabling security software can hide the real cause and leave the computer exposed. Inspect the detection and reinstall from Adobe instead.
If the error changes to an entry-point or dependency message
An entry-point error usually means Windows found a DLL but it does not match what the Illustrator executable expects. This commonly results from mixing files from different releases.
If the message says that another module could not be found, the named module may be the real missing dependency. Return to the clean-reinstall process and check whether the error names a Visual C++ runtime.
Do not solve an entry-point error by adding more copies of aires.dll to different folders. That increases DLL search-order confusion and makes future repairs harder.

Is aires.dll part of Windows?
No evidence supports that. It is associated with Adobe Illustrator and should normally be supplied by the Illustrator installation.
Which Illustrator versions use aires.dll?
Public metadata associates reported copies with Illustrator 2020, Illustrator CS6, and older Illustrator-related builds. The same filename can represent different binaries, so the exact release must come from the matching Adobe installation.
Should I install Visual C++ to fix aires.dll?
Only when the error names a Microsoft runtime such as VCRUNTIME140.dll or MSVCP140.dll. aires.dll itself is not identified as a Visual C++ Redistributable file.
Does 64-bit Windows require a 64-bit aires.dll?
No. The Illustrator executable determines the required architecture. A 32-bit Illustrator build needs its 32-bit DLL even on 64-bit Windows.
Can I fix it by copying aires.dll into System32?
No. That is unsafe and may place the wrong application file in a system directory. Repair or reinstall Illustrator instead.
Why does Windows say the specified module could not be found when aires.dll is present?
The message can mean that a dependency of aires.dll is missing, not that the named file itself is absent. Check the complete error and perform a clean Illustrator repair.
What if antivirus quarantined the file?
Inspect Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Protection history. Restore it only after confirming its Adobe origin, original path, and safety. Otherwise reinstall Illustrator.
What if reinstalling Illustrator does not help?
Check quarantine and endpoint-security logs, confirm the correct architecture and release, test without third-party plug-ins, reset preferences, try a new Windows profile, and review installer logs. Persistent failures may require Adobe support or investigation of disk and security-policy problems.
Should I run System Restore?
Use Win + R, enter rstrui.exe, and review available restore points only when one predates the failure and normal Illustrator repair is unavailable. System Restore is secondary to reinstalling the affected application.
The correct repair is almost always to restore the complete, matching Illustrator installation rather than to hunt for an isolated copy of aires.dll.

Drivers are the other quiet cause. Instead of checking dozens of devices one by one in Device Manager, let Outbyte Driver Updater scan the machine for free and show which drivers are outdated or damaged; the full version installs the correct versions for you.
