Alan Wake 2: The Lake House launched on October 22, 2024. Remedy described it as the game’s second and final expansion; it is no longer an upcoming October release. The expansion follows FBC agent Kiran Estevez through a research facility beside Cauldron Lake, where an incident has brought the facility into contact with the Dark Place.
What The Lake House is about
The expansion takes place at the Lake House, a multi-story Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) research facility on the shore of Cauldron Lake. Players take the role of FBC agent Kiran Estevez. Remedy’s FAQ describes a catastrophic event and reckless experiments that cause reality to collide with the Dark Place. Exploring the facility brings a new enemy and the Black Rock Launcher into the story.

The Lake House’s events run in parallel with the early part of Saga Anderson’s story in Alan Wake 2. Lead Writer Clay Murphy described it as Estevez’s visit to the facility during that period in an Xbox Wire interview.
How its horror differs from Night Springs
Remedy positioned The Lake House as a return to survival horror after the first expansion, Night Springs, took a different tonal approach. Game Director Kyle Rowley told the Epic Games Store that the team wanted to embrace the survival-horror atmosphere, tone, and gameplay associated with Alan Wake. Remedy’s FAQ also notes new music by Poe and Petri Alanko.

How to access the expansion
You need Alan Wake 2 and access to its Expansion Pass. The pass is included with the Deluxe Edition. Digital Standard Edition owners can obtain access through a Deluxe Upgrade; Remedy’s FAQ, updated October 22, 2024, listed that upgrade at $20 / €20 / £15 at the time. Those are historical prices, not confirmation of current pricing.
- If you own the Expansion Pass: the expansion unlocks automatically. From the main menu, select “Expansions.”
- To start it from the main story: during Return 06, ask Estevez for more information.
- If you own the digital Standard Edition: obtain the Deluxe Upgrade to gain the Expansion Pass entitlement, then launch the expansion from the menu or through the in-game access point.
The FAQ says the Expansion Pass is included in the digital and physical Deluxe Editions. Its October 2024 update listed physical Deluxe Editions for PS5 and Xbox Series X; the package includes the base game, Deluxe items, both expansions through the pass, a reversible cover sleeve, and a code for Alan Wake Remastered. The FAQ says an additional download is required. Current physical availability and pricing are not established here.

Is Control required?
No. The Lake House connects Alan Wake 2 to Remedy’s wider universe through the FBC, its facility, and Estevez’s role as an agent. Remedy says playing Control or its AWE expansion is optional for understanding Alan Wake 2, though it may interest players who want more of that connected-universe context.
