album.dll is an ArcSoft Album application file, not a Windows system component. If album.dll is missing or cannot be loaded, the safest solution is usually to repair or reinstall the complete ArcSoft program that needs it rather than downloading the DLL separately.
What album.dll is
| Detail | Identification |
|---|---|
| File | album.dll |
| Internal name | Album |
| Product | ArcSoft Album |
| Publisher | ArcSoft Inc |
| File category | Third-party application component |
| Normal role | Helps an ArcSoft imaging application start and run |
Public file records commonly associate album.dll with ArcSoft Album and identify it as a 32-bit application DLL. Treat those details as identification clues, not a universal specification. Different ArcSoft products or installer releases may contain different builds.

album.dll is not part of Windows, Microsoft Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, or a graphics driver. It should not normally be added to C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.
ArcSoft software was also distributed with cameras, scanners, printers, and other hardware. As a result, the program asking for album.dll may not be named simply “ArcSoft Album.” It could be an older photo-management or imaging application installed from original device media.

What the error means
You may see messages such as:
album.dll is missingThe program can't start because album.dll is missing from your computeralbum.dll was not foundCannot find album.dllFailed to load album.dllError loading album.dll. The specified module could not be foundalbum.dll is missing or corrupted
These messages do not always mean that the named file itself is absent. Windows may have found album.dll but failed to load one of its dependencies. A dependency is another DLL or runtime that album.dll needs.
The likely causes are:
- An ArcSoft installation was incomplete or damaged.
- Antivirus software quarantined the file.
- A cleanup utility or failed uninstall removed part of the application.
- The wrong ArcSoft installer or an incompatible file was used.
- A dependent DLL is missing.
- The application is too old for the current Windows version.
- Broader Windows component corruption is affecting several programs.
Start with the application repair steps below. They address the most likely cause without changing Windows system folders.
Fix album.dll errors on Windows
1. Identify the program that needs album.dll
Before replacing anything, identify the executable that displays the error.

- Right-click the shortcut that produces the error.
- Select Properties.
- Select the Shortcut tab.
- Read the Target field.
- Note the program name and installation folder.
If the shortcut is on the taskbar:
- Right-click the taskbar icon.
- Right-click the program name in the jump list.
- Select Properties.
You can also check installed applications:
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps in Windows 11, or Apps & features in Windows 10.
- Search for ArcSoft, Album, PhotoStudio, PhotoImpression, or the name of the camera or scanner manufacturer.
- Open the application menu and select Modify, Change, Repair, or Uninstall, if available.
The exact ArcSoft application cannot be determined from the filename alone. Several older ArcSoft products may have used album-related components.
2. Repair the ArcSoft application
Use the built-in repair option when it exists.
- Open Settings with Windows + I.
- Select Apps.
- Open Installed apps on Windows 11 or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find the ArcSoft application.
- Select the three-dot menu in Windows 11, or select the application in Windows 10.
- Choose Advanced options, Modify, or Change, depending on what Windows provides.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Start the ArcSoft program again.
Not every traditional desktop application provides a Repair button. If repair is unavailable or the error remains, use the original installer and reinstall the complete program.
Do not uninstall first if you no longer have the installer or recovery media. Confirm that you can obtain the correct installer before removing a working copy or its application data.
3. Reinstall the complete ArcSoft or OEM program
Reinstallation is the most reliable fix when the file was deleted, damaged, or never installed correctly.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Use the installer from one of these trusted sources:
- The original CD or DVD supplied with the software.
- Recovery media supplied with the camera, scanner, or other device.
- The device manufacturer’s support package for the exact model.
- A publisher-supported download or archive that identifies the complete application.
Then follow these steps:
- Close the ArcSoft program.
- Disconnect the related camera or scanner if its installer requests this.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Select the ArcSoft application.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows when prompted.
- Run the original installer.
- If the installer is on removable media, copy it to a local folder first if it fails to read reliably.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Complete the installation without manually changing the DLL destination.
- Restart Windows.
- Start the application from its normal shortcut.
If the installer offers a choice between 32-bit and 64-bit components, use the architecture intended for the ArcSoft application. A 64-bit version of Windows can run a 32-bit ArcSoft program, so Windows being 64-bit does not mean that album.dll must be 64-bit.

A successful repair should remove the missing-file message and allow the application to open. If the same message returns immediately, confirm that you reinstalled the program that actually produced the error, not a different ArcSoft product.
4. Check Windows Security quarantine
Windows Security or another antivirus program may have removed album.dll.
Do not immediately restore the file. First confirm where it came from and whether the detection applies to the original installer.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Open the event associated with
album.dll. - Review the detection name, original file path, and action taken.
- Check whether the file came from the original ArcSoft or device manufacturer’s installer.
Restore or allow the file only when all of these conditions are true:
- The installer came from a trusted original source.
- The file was installed in the expected ArcSoft application folder.
- The detection is demonstrably a false positive.
- You have scanned the installer and system.
Microsoft warns that restoring a real threat can put the computer at risk. If the file came from an unknown download, leave it quarantined and reinstall the application from trusted media instead.
Do not disable antivirus protection merely to force a DLL into place.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors5. Check the application folder and dependencies
Windows normally searches the application directory when loading a DLL. That means the relevant copy of album.dll, if one is required, usually belongs in the same program folder as the ArcSoft executable, not in a Windows system folder.
To inspect the application folder:
- Right-click the program shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Select Open File Location.
- Look for the application executable and its related files.
- Do not delete, rename, or replace files yet.
If album.dll is present but Windows reports that the specified module cannot be found, the missing item may be a dependency rather than album.dll itself. Reinstalling the parent application restores the expected group of files and is safer than guessing which dependency to find separately.
Do not mix files from different ArcSoft programs. A file with the same name from another release may have a different interface, architecture, or dependency set.

6. Use compatibility settings for an old ArcSoft program
Some ArcSoft applications were designed for older Windows releases. If reinstalling restores album.dll but the program still fails to start, test compatibility settings.
Recommended Free Tools
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Choose an older Windows version from the list.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Start the application.
You can also run the built-in troubleshooter:
- Right-click the application executable or shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open Compatibility.
- Select Run compatibility troubleshooter.
- Follow the prompts.
- Test the application after each suggested change.
If the program was supplied with a camera or scanner, install the device’s complete software package rather than only a standalone imaging utility. The parent program may require additional files or services.
An old application can remain incompatible with current Windows even when every DLL is present. In that situation, repeatedly replacing DLLs will not solve the underlying compatibility problem. Use a supported replacement or a controlled older Windows environment if the original software is essential.
7. Install Windows updates and restart
Updates can resolve loader and compatibility problems, although they do not reinstall a third-party ArcSoft DLL.
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart the computer.
- Test the ArcSoft application again.
If the application stopped working immediately after a Windows or software change, System Restore may help:
- Open the Start menu.
- Search for Create a restore point.
- Open the result.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the failure.
- Review the affected programs.
- Confirm the restore.
System Restore does not replace the need to reinstall a damaged ArcSoft application, but it can reverse a recent change that broke an older program.
8. Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
DISM and System File Checker repair protected Windows components. They do not reinstall album.dll, because album.dll is an ArcSoft application file.
Use these commands when several unrelated applications are failing, Windows reports corrupted system files, or other Windows features are malfunctioning.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the ArcSoft application.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. DISM normally uses Windows Update as its repair source.

If SFC reports that it repaired corrupted files, restart and test the program. If it reports that it could not fix some files, run DISM again, restart, and repeat SFC. If only the ArcSoft program fails while Windows works normally, return to the ArcSoft repair or reinstall procedure instead of repeatedly running system commands.
When manually repeating DISM and SFC becomes difficult to track, Outbyte PC Repair can perform a free scan showing what may need attention; repairs are completed by the full version, and reinstalling ArcSoft remains the definitive fix for this application-specific DLL.
If broader Windows corruption continues on Windows 11, open Settings → System → Recovery and look for Fix problems using Windows Update → Reinstall now, when that option is available. Microsoft describes this repair reinstall as preserving apps, files, and settings.
9. Check related device drivers only when the application needs them
album.dll is not a device driver. Device Driver updates are relevant only when the ArcSoft program depends on a connected camera, scanner, capture device, or imaging component and the failure began after a hardware or driver change.

- Right-click the related device.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Note the provider and driver date.
- Use Update Driver only with a driver from Windows Update or the device manufacturer’s support package.
Do not replace album.dll merely because Device Manager shows an unrelated warning. Fix the ArcSoft installation first.
Finding the right driver manually can mean checking the exact device model and comparing several package versions. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs attention; driver installation is completed by the full version, and it does not replace the need to reinstall ArcSoft when the application files are damaged.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should you copy album.dll to System32 or SysWOW64?
No. System32 and SysWOW64 are not general-purpose DLL storage folders.
On 64-bit Windows, the names are confusing: System32 is primarily used for 64-bit system components, while SysWOW64 contains many 32-bit system components. Putting a third-party DLL in either folder can create version conflicts, expose the file to unrelated programs, and obscure the real installation problem.

The application directory is normally considered before system locations. Restore the file through the original application’s installer instead of changing the global Windows search environment.
A manually recovered file should be considered only when it comes from the exact original installer and belongs in that application’s own directory. It must match the program’s release and architecture. This is a recovery measure, not a general solution.
Does regsvr32 fix album.dll?
Usually, no.
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration functions such as DllRegisterServer. There is no reliable public evidence that album.dll is an ActiveX or COM server requiring registration.

Running:
regsvr32 album.dll
does not install a missing file, repair a damaged dependency, or select the correct architecture. It may produce an entry-point or registration error, which does not prove that Windows itself is broken.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Use regsvr32 only when documentation for the specific ArcSoft application explicitly says that its DLL must be registered. Otherwise, repair or reinstall the complete application.
What not to do
- Do not download
album.dllfrom a random DLL download website. - Do not copy an unknown DLL into
System32orSysWOW64. - Do not assume a newer file is compatible with every ArcSoft product.
- Do not mix files from different ArcSoft installers.
- Do not disable antivirus protection to force a file into place.
- Do not install a Microsoft runtime blindly because an ArcSoft DLL is missing.
- Do not use
regsvr32as a general DLL repair command. - Do not delete the ArcSoft application before confirming that its installer is available.
- Do not assume a 64-bit Windows installation requires a 64-bit version of this application DLL.
Random DLL downloads can contain malware, have the wrong architecture, belong to another software release, or omit the dependency that actually caused the error. The safe sources are the original ArcSoft installer, the device manufacturer’s recovery media or support package, and a publisher-supported archive.
FAQ
Is album.dll a Windows file?
No. It is identified with ArcSoft Album and should be treated as a third-party application component.
Which program installed album.dll?
The filename alone cannot identify one universal program. Find the executable path in the shortcut that displays the error, then repair or reinstall that ArcSoft or OEM application.
Can I download album.dll separately?
That is not the recommended fix. A standalone file may be malicious, incompatible, or missing required dependencies. Restore the complete application from its original installer.
Should I install Visual C++ or DirectX?
There is no evidence that one universal Microsoft redistributable fixes every album.dll error. Install additional runtimes only when the original application’s documentation or installer specifically requires them.
What if the message says “not designed to run on Windows” or shows 0xc000012f?
That usually indicates an invalid, corrupted, incompatible, or wrong-architecture binary. Reinstall the complete ArcSoft application using the matching installer. If other programs show the same error, investigate Windows component corruption with DISM and SFC.
Why does Windows say “the specified module could not be found” when album.dll exists?
A dependency of album.dll may be missing or incompatible. Reinstalling the parent application restores its expected dependency set.
Recommended Free Tools
Will SFC restore album.dll?
No. SFC repairs protected Windows files, not third-party ArcSoft files. Use SFC only as a secondary check when other Windows components are also failing.
What if the original installer is unavailable?
Check the original device media, the camera or scanner manufacturer’s support resources, and any publisher-supported archive you already have access to. If no compatible installer exists and the software is unsupported, use a supported replacement or a controlled older Windows environment rather than sourcing isolated DLLs.
How do I know whether this is a Windows problem?
If only one old ArcSoft application fails, the application installation is the more likely cause. If several unrelated programs fail, Windows reports corrupted files, or the issue began after a system change, investigate Windows repair, System Restore, and broader hardware or storage problems.
