Alien: Rogue Incursion makes a strong case for VR horror with tactile weapons, hands-on tools, and a convincing Alien atmosphere. But Nicholas Sutrich’s February 13, 2025 review of the Quest 3 version found that low-resolution visuals and stuttering could break the immersion. Survios later listed performance and visual changes in two Quest patches; those notes do not tell us how much the game improved in practice, and they are not a substitute for a current independent retest.
What makes the Quest 3 gameplay work
The game’s best ideas use the headset and controllers as more than a way to aim and shoot. In his Android Central review, Sutrich highlights the on-body inventory: reaching to a weapon or ammunition position feels physical, rather than like selecting an item from a conventional menu. He called it among the best inventory systems he had used in a VR game—a personal assessment, not a standardized usability test.
That embodied approach extends to the motion tracker, PDA, terminals, electrical panels, welding tool, and wrench. The result is a blend of combat, exploration, puzzle-solving, and key-card hunting that gives routine interactions a physical presence. The review also praises the story and voice acting, enemy balance, and the game’s Alien atmosphere.
The weakness in the puzzle side is variety: Sutrich lists limited puzzle variety among the game’s drawbacks. The mechanics are effective, but they do not make every obstacle feel equally fresh.

The major drawback: visuals and stuttering
Sutrich’s central criticism is that the Quest 3 version looked too low-resolution and stuttered enough to disrupt immersion. That matters especially in a horror game, where visual clarity and a steady presentation help sustain tension. The review says the Quest version used lower-quality assets than the PC and PSVR 2 versions and altered lighting for the headset. Those are observations about the build he reviewed in February 2025, not a verified description of every later version.

- Patch 1.01, February 27, 2025: Survios listed a reduced chance of performance drops during combat, stability improvements, visual fixes, fog adjustments, and gameplay changes. Read the Patch 1.01 notes.

These are developer-reported changes, not measured results. They establish that Survios worked on performance and visuals after the review, but they do not quantify frame rate, resolution, or how much the original problems improved. The available evidence does not establish the state of the Quest 3 build in 2026.
Which version should you play?
The right choice depends on whether you value standalone convenience, VR interaction, or a non-VR presentation. The available versions are not a controlled head-to-head comparison, so platform descriptions should not be treated as proof of current image quality or performance.

In Tom’s Guide’s interview, Survios game director Eugene Elkin explained one challenge of VR rendering: “In VR, you have to render twice, once for every eye.” Creative director and chief product officer T.Q. Jefferson described the adaptation more broadly: “There are areas of authenticity that VR particularly lends itself to, but there are always trade-offs.” These comments offer context about VR and flat-screen design; they do not independently verify the Quest 3 version’s image quality.

If physical interactions, exploration, and Alien-themed VR horror are your priorities, the game has unusually compelling mechanics according to Sutrich’s review. If blurry visuals or inconsistent performance quickly pull you out of VR, the same review’s central criticism is a serious reason to hesitate. The subsequent patches make it worth checking the current build rather than assuming the launch-era review tells the whole story, but their notes alone cannot confirm that the problem is fixed.

Meta’s listing showed a 4.0 rating from 767 ratings when accessed in 2026. That is a changing store snapshot, not a controlled review score or a measure of post-patch performance.
