Alienware 16X Aurora Review: Is It Still Good Value in 2026?

The Alienware 16X Aurora’s value depends on its generation and configuration. Here’s how the 2025 RTX 5070 review unit compares with 2026 options and current pricing.

The Alienware 16X Aurora can be good value, but the answer depends on which generation and configuration you’re considering. PCWorld’s 2025 review praised its Core Ultra 9 275HX, RTX 5070 and 32GB RAM model at a review-time price of $1,999; that verdict does not automatically apply to Dell’s newer 2026 configurations or current offers.

Which Alienware 16X Aurora are you looking at?

“Alienware 16X Aurora” covers configurations from different years, so check the processor, graphics card, display, memory and storage on the listing before comparing reviews or prices.

The 2025 PCWorld review unit

PCWorld reviewed a 16-inch model with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 and 32GB of DDR5 memory. The publication said Dell also offered RTX 5060 graphics and configurations with up to 64GB of memory. Its review-time price for the tested system was $1,999, with other configurations starting at $1,549. Those are prices reported in PCWorld’s 2025 review, not current prices or a guarantee that the same configurations remain available. PCWorld’s review is the basis for those figures.

The 2026 refresh

Notebookcheck describes the 2026 refresh as adding OLED display options, HDR support and RTX 5070 Ti configurations, along with a higher-tier Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus option. These are additions to the newer lineup, not specifications of PCWorld’s 2025 RTX 5070 review unit. Check the individual SKU: the refresh does not mean every 16X Aurora has OLED, HDR, an RTX 5070 Ti or the 290HX Plus. Notebookcheck’s 2026 coverage discusses the generation changes.

Is the Alienware 16X Aurora worth buying at its current price?

Only a like-for-like comparison can answer that. When checked on October 8, 2026, Dell’s US product page showed a configuration at $2,649.99 after a $500 discount, with the offer stated to run through October 30, 2026. That is a dated offer for the configuration on that page—not a universal price, an enduring MSRP or a direct comparison with PCWorld’s 2025 test system. Dell’s US product page is the source for that offer.

Tom’s Hardware’s 2026 review found HX-class laptops with premium screens and RTX 5060 or RTX 5070 graphics priced within about $100 of its reviewed Aurora. That makes the Aurora worth comparing, but it also means its name or former value reputation is not enough to establish a bargain. Tom’s Hardware’s review provides that market comparison.

  • 2 x USB-A 3.2, 1 x USB-C 3.2, 1 x Thunderbolt 4, 1 x HDMI 2.1, 1 x RJ45 Ethernet Port

Before choosing, compare the exact listings on these points:

  • GPU and CPU: Match the laptop GPU tier and processor class. An RTX 5070 Ti configuration is not equivalent to the 2025 RTX 5070 model.
  • Display: Compare panel technology, resolution, refresh rate, brightness and color coverage. An OLED or HDR option can change the value proposition, but only if it is included in the SKU you’re pricing.
  • Memory and storage: Confirm the installed capacity on each system rather than assuming a model name guarantees the same configuration.
  • Tested performance and acoustics: Use reviews of the specific configuration when available; workload, cooling and noise behavior can vary between models.
  • Portability: Account for the laptop and its power adapter, plus the battery and charging experience if you expect to use it away from an outlet.
  • Live price: Compare current prices for equivalent specifications, and note the date and retailer. Historical review pricing is useful context, not a current quote.

What do reviews say about performance and the screen?

Tom’s Guide reported a Geekbench 6 multi-core score of 18,697 for its reviewed unit. In its display measurements, it recorded 98.3% sRGB coverage, 99% DCI-P3 coverage, 450.8 nits of brightness and a 0.6 Delta-E result. These are Tom’s Guide’s results for its test unit—not manufacturer specifications or guaranteed results for every Aurora configuration. Tom’s Guide’s review contains the publication’s testing.

Those figures offer useful evidence about that unit’s processor and screen, but they do not settle how a particular configuration will perform in your games. The GPU, screen option and system settings matter; compare reviews that test the same or closely matched hardware rather than treating one benchmark as a performance guarantee.

What are the practical drawbacks?

Portability involves more than the laptop’s size. TechRadar describes the power adapter on its reviewed model as chunky, though it says it fits in a standard-sized laptop backpack. The publication also reported around two hours for a full charge in its testing. Charging time depends on configuration, settings and conditions, so treat that as a result for its test system rather than a promise for every model. TechRadar’s review reports these observations.

If you mainly play at a desk near an outlet, adapter bulk and charging time may matter less than the screen and performance for the price. If you regularly carry the laptop or need extended use away from power, weigh those trade-offs before buying.

What to check before you buy

  1. Identify the generation and full configuration. Confirm the CPU, GPU, display type, memory and storage in the seller’s listing.
  2. Find reviews of that configuration. Keep 2025 RTX 5070 results separate from the 2026 refresh’s OLED, RTX 5070 Ti and Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus options.
  3. Compare equivalent systems at today’s prices. Include HX-class competitors with similar graphics and display specifications, not just laptops with similar branding or screen size.
  4. Decide whether its trade-offs fit your use. Consider carrying the adapter and your need to use the system away from an outlet alongside performance and display quality.
