The available FPS figures are modeled estimates—not results from a documented test on an Ally—so use them to compare settings, not as a promise of what you will see.
How well does World of Warcraft run on the ROG Ally?
It should be possible to play with settings adjustments, but there is no established, reproducible test here that can guarantee a particular frame rate for either original Ally model. World of Warcraft changes over time, and a quiet area may perform differently from a crowded city or raid.
FPSHQ’s page, updated October 3, 2026, provides model-based estimates for the Ally. It maps the Ally’s graphics to Radeon 780M, assumes maximum TDP and no CPU bottleneck, and notes that its integrated-graphics dataset is limited. FPSHQ describes the estimates as conservative or lower-bound; they are not observed results from a documented WoW session.
| Resolution | Low preset | Medium preset | High preset |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1920×1080 | 51 FPS (FPSHQ estimate) | 41 FPS (FPSHQ estimate) | 34 FPS (FPSHQ estimate) |
| 1280×720 | 74 FPS (FPSHQ estimate) | 59 FPS (FPSHQ estimate) | 49 FPS (FPSHQ estimate) |
These estimates suggest the usual trade-off: lowering resolution or preset can improve modeled performance. They do not establish frame rates in any particular current expansion, activity or location. ASUS also cautions that performance can vary with configuration and may change as drivers and the platform mature (ASUS ROG Ally (2023) specifications; FPSHQ’s World of Warcraft estimates).

Which original ROG Ally model do you have?
ASUS lists two original Ally versions: one with the Ryzen Z1 Extreme and one with the Ryzen Z1. Both listed configurations have 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage, and use Windows 11 with a 1920×1080, 120Hz display. The FPSHQ figures above are presented for the ROG Ally generally; they do not provide a controlled, model-by-model WoW comparison. Do not assume that an estimate applies identically to both chips.

- [Xbox experience brought to life by ROG] : The Xbox gaming legacy meets ROG's decades of premium hardware design in the ROG Xbox Ally. Boot straight into the Xbox experience just like a console.
- [Xbox Game Bar integration] : Launch Game Bar with a tap of the Xbox button or play your favorite titles natively from platforms like Xbox Game Pass, Steam, Epic Games, or Windows games on the go.
- [All your games, all your progress]: Powered by Windows 11, the ROG Xbox Ally gives you access to your full library of PC games from Xbox and other game stores. With Xbox Play Anywhere, you can pick up right where you left off on your PC or Xbox and jump back into the game anytime.
- [Never stop gaming]: Powered by ultra-efficient AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor, the ROG Xbox Ally offers console-caliber performance and can game for hours, even away from a wall outlet.
- [Game-ready storage and fast memory]: Store your full library and multitask seamlessly with 512GB SSD and 16GB of LPDDR5 6400MHz RAM. The ROG Xbox Ally makes playing any game in the palm of your hand possible.
- Start at the panel’s native resolution. If performance is unsatisfactory, lower the resolution or graphics preset, then compare in your usual play area. A lower resolution can look softer on the Ally’s 1080p screen.
- Choose a power mode in Armoury Crate SE Command Center. ASUS lists Silent at 10W, Performance at 15W and Turbo at 25W, with Turbo rising to 30W on AC power. Higher power can help performance but generally uses battery faster. Select according to whether you are plugged in or prioritizing battery life (ASUS ROG Ally power modes).
- Consider an FPS limiter. Armoury Crate SE provides an FPS limiter. If steadier frame pacing matters more to you than the highest possible peaks, try a cap and see how it feels in your normal activity. The available evidence does not establish a best cap for WoW.
- Recheck after changing one setting at a time. Record the resolution, preset, power mode, limiter and the scene you tested. That makes comparisons meaningful and helps distinguish a settings change from a different workload.
Can you play with the Ally’s built-in controls?
Blizzard’s published Windows requirements list keyboard and mouse as required and say other input devices are unsupported. That is the formal requirements language; it is not an evaluation of the Ally’s built-in controls. Separately, Blizzard says it updated APIs to improve controller, touchpad and gyro support so addon creators can use them. This establishes controller-related API support, not a guarantee that every activity or control setup will be seamless. A controller addon or configuration may be part of setting up handheld play (Blizzard accessibility updates).
Does the Ally meet WoW’s published PC requirements?
Blizzard’s current World of Warcraft requirements page lists a Windows minimum of 8GB RAM, 1280×720 resolution and 128GB of available SSD space; recommended memory is 16GB. The original Ally configurations listed by ASUS have 16GB RAM and a 1920×1080 display, but the storage figures are not a complete compatibility test. Meeting published minimums does not establish a particular frame rate or settle the built-in-control question. Check Blizzard’s live requirements for the client and version you intend to play (World of Warcraft system requirements).

Why results can change
WoW receives ongoing updates: Blizzard’s content-update index includes hotfixes dated October 6, 2026. Its separate “World of Warcraft: Forever GPU Requirements” notice is specific to that version or context, and should not be generalized to every WoW client. Confirm which version you are running when comparing performance or requirements (Blizzard World of Warcraft news and updates; World of Warcraft: Forever GPU requirements).
