Diablo IV’s Season of Witchcraft introduced 19 Occult Gems. In Blizzard’s Season 7 overview, every gem grants 160 Armor and 8% Resist All, then adds a distinct effect tied to Witchcraft Powers, Hexes, Auras, summons, or skill tags. The descriptions below are the published Season 7 versions—not a guarantee of current live balance. Check the in-game tooltip for the effect and values in your current version.

How to choose a gem for your build
These effects are conditional rather than a universal ranking. Match the gem to the powers and mechanics your character actually uses:
- Witchcraft school: Wicked Pact, Heart of Anima, and Toadling’s Wish increase Potency for non-Unique powers in their respective schools. Killing Wind, Witching Hour, Mind Wreath, Spiral Coin, Cornucopia, and Friend of the Bog require at least three powers from a specified school.
- Hexes and enemy types: Phantom String rewards Overpower against Hexed enemies; Elder Sigil boosts direct damage from named skill categories against Hexed enemies; Pointed Finger benefits Summons against Hexed Elites. Dust Stone counts each Aura and Hex afflicting an enemy.
- Auras: Voice of the Stars, Vulture Talon, and Hungering Void only apply while an Aura is active.
- Skill tags and damage type: Witching Hour adds the Eldritch tag to the next Core Skill on its cadence, while Voice of the Stars adds Grimoire tags to Ultimate Skills. Compare those conditions with the skills and damage types your build relies on.
- Survival and utility: Vile Phylactery is an emergency fatal-damage effect with a long cooldown and a temporary power-disable trade-off. Friend of the Bog adds life and primary stat, while Moonlight Ward scales with ranks in a slotted Unique Witchcraft Power.
Those comparisons follow the published descriptions; they are not a tested performance ranking. A gem’s practical value depends on whether its condition is active in your build.

How Occult Gems are crafted in Season 7
Blizzard describes Occult Gems as seasonal socketables crafted by Gelena at the Tree of Whispers. The Season of Witchcraft overview lists Fugitive Heads, Restless Rot, Gem Fragments, Gem Dust, and other Occult Gems among the crafting materials; higher tiers can require other Occult Gems. It also connects seasonal material acquisition to Whisper bounties and Fugitive Heads returning through Headhunts.
The gems add affixes and complement Witchcraft Powers, and some can add Witchcraft tags to skills. The powers are grouped into Eldritch, Psyche, and Growth & Decay schools, which is why several effects depend on the school or number of powers you have slotted.

Season 7 values and current-game caveat
Treat the table as a historical Season 7 reference. Blizzard’s overview contains revised descriptions, so the values above use the non-struck Season 7 text rather than earlier crossed-out figures. Blizzard’s Season 7.1 patch notes later document fixes involving Dust Stone, Elder Sigil tooltip wording, Vile Phylactery, and Moonlight Ward. Those fixes show that issues or wording changes existed; they do not establish the exact balance in a later live version. For present-day behavior, use the tooltip shown in your game.
