Use the unlock list below to find when each area opens, then check the encounter guide for the species reported in each zone.
Where are the Wild Zones in Pokémon Legends: Z-A?
Wild Zones are bounded habitats within Lumiose City, not routes outside the city. Nintendo’s official game listing describes Lumiose as the setting and Wild Zones as one of its features. The game has 20 numbered zones, according to the October 15, 2025 PowerPyx walkthrough.
The encounter tables below combine species listed by PowerPyx with time and sublocation details reported by Pokémon GO Hub’s Wild Zone guide. These are guide-reported encounters, not an official Nintendo zone-by-zone database; conditions can matter when you search.
When do the Wild Zones unlock?
PowerPyx groups the story unlocks by Main Mission. Pokémon GO Hub identifies Zones 1–3 at Main Mission 5; the remaining early-zone unlock point is not specified in the cited guide material. Mission titles and rank descriptions below are guide-reported, so check the in-game mission log if you need the exact wording.

Why might a Pokémon not appear in a zone?
A species entry does not necessarily mean it can be found anywhere in the zone at any time. Pokémon GO Hub’s tables distinguish day-only and night-only encounters and point to sublocations such as rooftops, ground areas, water, plazas, and gardens. Check the relevant zone’s time and location notes before repeatedly searching the wrong part of the area.

The Pokémon Company International’s official gameplay guide, published July 22, 2025, says Wild Zones can be explored by day or night. It also advises hiding or approaching from behind when a Pokémon might flee, and explains that lowering a Pokémon’s HP in battle makes it easier to catch before aiming and throwing a Poké Ball.

Prepare before approaching an Alpha
Alphas are larger than ordinary Pokémon, have red eyes, and are particularly powerful and difficult to catch, according to the official guide. They may chase and attack after noticing you. Avoiding hits while battling is the guide’s advice; approach carefully and be ready for a tougher encounter than a standard catch.
