Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake has 22 documented scrolls. They are found in towns, dungeons, locked chests and medal rewards; the list below gives each location and any known access requirement. RPG Site’s October 30, 2025 guide reports that none are permanently missable before the final boss.
What scrolls do—and why to collect them
Scrolls teach the Hero additional spells and skills when used. Square Enix describes them as a new item for learning extra abilities in its September 5, 2025 media kit. Because Dragon Quest I has one character, RPG Site recommends using each scroll as you find it rather than leaving it unused.
Collecting and using them also matters for the A Man of Many Talents achievement, which RPG Site associates with learning every spell and ability. This list follows the approximate order in which the guide’s walkthrough obtains the scrolls; use the alphabetical index if you are checking for one specific item.

Are any scrolls missable?
RPG Site’s guide reports that no scroll is permanently missable and that all can be found through the final boss. This is a guide-reported completion claim, not a guarantee for every possible game state. To support the A Man of Many Talents achievement, use each scroll as it is found and keep track of the two medal rewards separately.
