Marvel Rivals launched on December 6, 2024, with 33 playable characters, all unlocked and free to play. The launch roster comprised eight Vanguards, 18 Duelists and seven Strategists. This is the historical launch lineup—not the game’s expanded roster today.

What the launch roles mean
The roles offer a broad guide to how each character contributes to a team. They are not a substitute for checking a character’s current abilities or balance, which may change after launch.

Launch-era examples help illustrate the range: Hulk could transform between forms, Captain America fought with a shield, and Hawkeye focused on ranged attacks. Cloak & Dagger could switch between healing and offensive modes, while Rocket Raccoon offered healing and revival support. These examples illustrate some playstyles; they are not a complete ability guide.

What was included at launch
NetEase Games’ December 6, 2024 launch announcement says Season 0, “Dooms’ Rise,” began with 33 heroes and that “all heroes [were] unlocked and free to play at launch and beyond.” The announcement also lists eight maps for Quick Match and Competitive, a Conquest map and a Practice Range.
The publisher announced global release at 00:00 UTC on December 6, 2024. The game launched on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Epic Games Store, as well as through the official website, according to the launch-trailer announcement. A November 16, 2024 Marvel Rivals Dev Vision page had already confirmed that all 33 heroes would be playable on December 6.
