Herbalism in WoW Classic Season of Discovery lets you gather herb nodes across the world, track nearby nodes with Find Herbs, and supply materials for Alchemy or sale. For leveling, start with a route matched to your current skill and the live SoD phase: a general WoW Classic guide offers a 1–300 path, but its zones and progression have not been confirmed here as a current, SoD-specific route.
What Herbalism does in Season of Discovery
Herbalism is a gathering profession. You collect herbs from nodes and can use the Find Herbs ability to track nearby nodes. Herbalism is commonly paired with Alchemy because Alchemy recipes use herbs; that connection does not guarantee that gathering or selling them will be profitable.
For basic mechanics, trainer information, herb requirements, and a general leveling path, see Wowhead’s WoW Classic Herbalism 1–300 guide. It was updated January 21, 2026 and is marked for patch 1.15.8, but it is not identified as a current, dedicated SoD route.
Check the phase and skill cap before leveling
Profession progression in Season of Discovery has changed by phase, so an old cap should not be treated as the live cap. Blizzard’s Phase 2 announcement said professions were capped at 225 in that phase and noted that new materials could be found and traded. That is a historical Phase 2 detail, not confirmation of the cap in a later phase: Blizzard’s Phase 2 announcement.

Wowhead’s Season of Discovery Alchemy guide, updated May 6, 2025 and marked patch 1.15.8, describes Phase 8 Alchemy progression up to 300. That supports the relevance of herbs to SoD crafting, but it does not establish a Herbalism cap or full Herbalism route for every phase.
Before choosing a leveling target, check the current phase and your Herbalism trainer or in-game profession window for the cap and available ranks. Wowhead’s Phase 2 profession reference discusses Herbalism trainers in major cities and several towns and the new herb ranks introduced in that phase. Its Phase 3 profession reference points readers to the general Classic 1–300 guide. Both are phase-specific references, not verification of the current client’s progression.

How to choose a Herbalism leveling route
The available 1–300 route is a useful starting reference, not a guarantee that every recommended zone or herb requirement still applies in the live SoD client. Use it alongside current in-game information rather than assuming a route is optimal or unchanged.
- Confirm your target skill. Check your current skill and the current phase cap before planning a route. Do not aim past the cap available in your phase.
- Match herbs to your skill. Compare each herb’s requirement in the route guide with your current skill. Skip nodes you cannot gather and look for a route appropriate to your progression.
- Verify the zone in-game. Use Find Herbs to locate nearby nodes, and confirm that the guide’s zone and herb availability match what you encounter in your current SoD client.
- Choose a goal. If you are gathering for Alchemy, prioritize herbs needed for the recipes you intend to make. If you are gathering to sell, check current demand and prices on your realm rather than relying on a generic route.
- Reassess as you level. When your skill or the available phase changes, review the herb requirements and route again instead of following a fixed path blindly.
The available sources do not establish a complete, currently verified zone-by-zone SoD route, comparative gathering yields, or gold-per-hour results. Route quality and herb value depend on the live game and your goal.

Herbalism and Alchemy: a useful pairing, not a profit promise
Alchemy consumes herbs, making it a natural profession to pair with Herbalism when you want to gather some of your own crafting materials. The SoD Alchemy guide includes herb materials in its leveling and recipe information, but which herbs you need depends on the recipes and progression you choose. Gathering for your own crafting and gathering to sell are different goals; compare your needs with current availability and realm prices rather than assuming one is more profitable.

What to verify in the live game
- The current Season of Discovery phase and Herbalism cap.
- Whether the Classic 1–300 progression and the route’s zone recommendations still match your client.
- The skill requirements and availability of the herbs you plan to gather.
- Current trainer availability if travel time affects your leveling plan.
- Realm-specific prices and demand if you are gathering to sell; the cited guides do not provide current market comparisons.
