Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteSpoilers for transformation unlocks below. Donkey Kong Bananza has five transformations: Kong, Zebra, Ostrich, Elephant, and Snake. Pauline’s singing activates them, each form serves a different traversal or combat purpose, and gold builds the Bananergy used to transform. You can switch between unlocked forms while a transformation is active.
What are Ancient Bananza Powers?
The giant Elders of the Underground World possess ancient Bananza powers and teach them to Pauline. When Pauline sings, Donkey Kong transforms. The forms are temporary: collecting gold builds Bananergy, the resource used to transform again. Nintendo also says players can swap between transformations during an active transformation. Nintendo’s transformation overview describes Kong, Zebra, and Ostrich; the full five-form roster and details for Elephant and Snake are covered in Nintendo Life’s spoiler-marked guide.
What does each transformation do?
| Transformation | Best suited to | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Kong Bananza | Breaking tough terrain | Uses raw strength to smash tougher materials, including concrete, and charge a powerful punch. Nintendo |
| Zebra Bananza | Fast traversal | Moves over water and crumbling paths, with improved traction on slick surfaces. Nintendo |
| Ostrich Bananza | Crossing gaps and attacking from the air | Soars and glides, catches updrafts, and drops Egg Bombs on enemies. Nintendo |
| Elephant Bananza | Clearing terrain and throwing material | Can inhale most terrain types and turn them into chunks DK can throw. Nintendo Life |
| Snake Bananza | Vertical traversal and timing challenges | Uses powerful jumps, including double and charged jumps. Its Glare ability slows the environment while DK moves normally. Nintendo Life |
How to choose a form
Pick a transformation for the obstacle in front of you rather than treating one as universally best. Zebra is suited to water and unstable paths; Ostrich helps with aerial routes and attacks; Snake offers extra vertical reach and a way to handle timing challenges. For terrain and combat, Kong breaks tougher material, Elephant absorbs and throws terrain, and Ostrich can bomb enemies from above.
Each transformation also has its own skill tree, with attribute upgrades and unlockables, according to Nintendo Life’s guide. That gives you another reason to develop the forms you use most instead of relying on a single one.

Do amiibo unlock Bananza transformations?
No transformation unlock is established for amiibo. The Donkey Kong & Pauline amiibo provides Pauline’s Diva Dress outfit early, while compatible Donkey Kong series amiibo can summon gold KONG tiles; other amiibo summon a sphere containing random material. These are optional bonuses, not a way to obtain the five Bananza forms. Nintendo’s Donkey Kong & Pauline amiibo page and Nintendo Support’s amiibo information describe these effects.
