Dragon Age: The Veilguard has seven recruitable companions. Harding and Neve join during the opening quest, and the remaining five become available as the main story progresses. Keep advancing the campaign to recruit them all; the recruitment guides say none are permanently missable through the main questline.
All seven companions and their recruitment quests
The opening companions arrive together; after that, follow the campaign sequence below. Emmrich and Taash are the exception: their recruitment quests open at the same point, and you can complete them in either order.

Recruitment order and what can be delayed
Harding and Neve join in the opening quest
Both companions join during “The End of the Beginning.” Guides differ on which name they list first, but they are both early recruits.

Bellara comes before Lucanis
Recruit Bellara during “In Entropy’s Grasp.” Lucanis becomes available later in “Sea of Blood”; GamesRadar+ notes that you cannot recruit him before Bellara.
Davrin follows Lucanis
“A Warden’s Best Friend” is Davrin’s recruitment quest. Continue the campaign to reach it after Lucanis’s recruitment.

Choose the order for Emmrich and Taash
“Where the Dead Must Go” and “The Dragon Slayer” become available together. Complete either quest first; the story waits for both recruits before moving forward. Any playtime estimates for reaching these quests are approximate because optional activities and play pace vary.
Recruitment depends on campaign progression. If you postpone a relevant main quest, you postpone that companion’s arrival; the guides do not identify a permanent recruitment miss for players who continue the main questline. GameSpot notes that Neve and Lucanis also feature in “On Blighted Wings” or “On Deadly Wings.” That later mission can shape their story experience, but it does not make them unrecruitable.

Recruitment is separate from romance
Romance and companion bonds do not unlock recruitment. EA says all seven companions can be romantic partners; Rook can build bonds through interactions, dialogue, companion quests, and optional gifts, then eventually commit to one partner. After committing, Rook cannot romance the others. EA’s romance guide gives examples of gifts: Hinterlands Cloak for Harding, Display on Ancient Griffons for Davrin, Elven Frog Figurine for Bellara, Set of Trinkets for Taash, Antivan Tea Seat for Lucanis, Haunted Statuette for Emmrich, and Collected Evidence for Neve. Gifts are optional relationship advice, and availability depends on vendor and location.
