Spoilers for the finale, companion fates, and the post-credits scene. Dragon Age: The Veilguard has three main ways to resolve Solas—fight him, trick him, or persuade him to bind himself willingly—plus finale choices that affect who survives. A separate optional post-credits scene is unlocked by finding all three Mysterious Circles. These are different layers of the ending, not one simple count of numbered endings.
What counts as an ending?
There are three useful things to track: how Rook resolves the confrontation with Solas, which companions and faction leaders survive the finale, and whether the optional post-credits scene plays. Guide writers sometimes call the persuasion route the “best” or “true” ending; those are guide labels, not an established official designation.
Prepare before the point of no return
GameSpot identifies “When Plans Align” in Chapter 11 as the point of no return. After starting it, you can do only finale-related tasks, so finish the preparation that matters to your chosen outcome first.
Improve companion readiness
Complete each companion’s personal questline to earn Hero of the Veilguard status. It improves suitability for finale assignments, but does not guarantee survival on its own.

The choice is yours. Brace yourself, there are tough decisions to be made, allies to inspire, and a fight that needs every sword, staff and bow you can muster.
Raise faction strength
Complete faction and region quests, and sell valuables to faction merchants to build strength. GameSpot reports that three stars requires 3,000 points or higher; this is a gameplay threshold reported by that guide, not a universal guarantee against casualties. PowerPyx notes that valuables can still be sold to a Wisp Merchant in the Crossroads for the faction whose city was destroyed.
Unlock the persuasion route
Complete “Regrets of the Dread Wolf” and obtain Mythal’s Essence before the relevant late-game quests. PC Gamer says to have the Essence before “The Shadowed Sun”; it enables the option to ask Mythal to reason with Solas in the final confrontation.

Find the post-credits collectible
Collect all three Mysterious Circles if you want the additional scene after the credits. This is a separate unlock and does not determine which main Solas resolution you choose.
How finale choices affect survival
Choose the distraction leader carefully
At the start of “Isle of the Gods,” choose either Harding or Davrin to lead the distraction. The cited GameSpot and PowerPyx walkthroughs report that the selected character dies during the Ghilan’nain encounter. Hero status and romance do not prevent this sacrifice.

Choose who disables the wards
Choose Neve or Bellara to disable the magical wards. That companion is captured and unavailable for part of the remaining finale, but can be rescued later. PowerPyx’s survival-achievement route requires the captured companion to be a Hero of the Veilguard for them to survive.
Assign companions to the tasks they suit
In “The Last Gambit,” match each assignment to its hints and the characters’ strengths. GameSpot’s examples point to ward or protection experience for the Veil Jumpers, mages or stealth for the Antivan Crows, and experience with large enemies or constructs for the Grey Wardens/Mourn Watch.

- Dramatic Single-Player Campaign - When corrupt Elven Gods threaten Thedas, lead the charge to save it. Rook isn’t afraid of a fight, no matter the odds. No matter the cost.
- Vibrant And Diverse Environments - Enter a vivid fantasy world and experience imaginative new locations as well as some you’ve heard of, but never seen. Larger Than Life Foes - Battle darkspawn, demons from beyond the Veil, dragons that rule the skies, and unique enemies as you advance your quest and fight for Thedas’s future
PowerPyx documents this recommendation set for a survival-achievement route: Taash for the Veil Jumpers, Lucanis for the Antivan Crows, Harding for the Grey Wardens/Mourn Watch, then Taash for the later defense assignment. It is one documented route, not the only valid combination; faction and companion strength also affect outcomes.
Weak faction strength, missing Hero status, or unsuitable assignments can lead to further casualties. GameSpot’s worst-case route includes companions being petrified and Rook sacrificing themself to bind Solas. PowerPyx likewise warns that low faction strength, unfinished companion quests, and poor assignments can produce maximum casualties.

The three main Solas outcomes
| Outcome | How to get it | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Fight Solas | Choose to confront him directly after defeating Elgar’nan. | Rook uses the dagger to bind Solas to the Veil. GameSpot says Heroes of the Veilguard can deflect his spells; companions without Hero status can be petrified, making this route especially bleak if preparation is poor. |
| Trick Solas | Choose the deception route using the fake dagger. | Rook catches Solas off guard and binds him to the Veil. This is distinct from directly fighting him. |
| Persuade Solas | Complete “Regrets of the Dread Wolf” and obtain Mythal’s Essence, then choose the option to ask Mythal to reason with him. | PC Gamer reports that selecting “You don’t have to do this” brings in the Inquisitor, Morrigan, and Mythal. Solas then binds himself to the Veil willingly. |
Exact dialogue wording and scene staging can depend on the route. PowerPyx lists “Let’s try this your way” and “I wish things were different” in its recommended survival-achievement path; those lines should not be treated as universal labels for every ending.
How to unlock the secret post-credits scene
Find all three Mysterious Circles. With all three collected, an additional scene plays after the credits. GameSpot describes a sinister voice referring to events in Veilguard and earlier games. The scene is an optional collectible reward, not a fourth main Solas ending; the cited guides establish the trigger and scene, not a confirmed continuation.
Best and worst endings: what the labels mean
If by “best ending” you mean a willing resolution with Solas and the strongest chance of keeping the rest of the group alive, prepare thoroughly, complete the Mythal-related quest, and choose persuasion. If by “worst ending” you mean the highest casualty route, poor faction strength, incomplete companion quests, and mismatched assignments can lead to companions being petrified and Rook making the final sacrifice. These labels describe outcomes, not official game categories, and the guaranteed Harding-or-Davrin sacrifice remains a separate choice in the finale.
