Fisch’s Tidefall update has three Essences: Requis Essence, Tide Essence, and Thalass Essence. You can obtain them from Dripstone Collapse mining, selected quests, and Personal Aquarium rewards. Requis Essence also has a guaranteed quest source in Sunken Reliquary.

Essence locations at a glance

Essence Where to get it What you need
Requis Essence Sunken Reliquary quest, Dripstone Collapse, Personal Aquarium Complete the Magical Diver’s second quest, use a Pickaxe during a collapse, or claim Aquarium rewards
Tide Essence Dripstone Collapse, Tidefall NPC quests, Personal Aquarium Mine event Dripstones, complete an eligible quest, or receive an Aquarium reward
Thalass Essence Dripstone Collapse, Personal Aquarium Mine event Dripstones or receive an Aquarium reward

All three are used with the Infusion Altars and Mella in Sunken Reliquary, including the progression connected to Thalassar’s Ruin.

Requis Essence

Guaranteed method: the Magical Diver quest

  1. Enter Tidefall and travel to Sunken Reliquary.
  2. Speak with the Magical Diver and complete his first quest.
  3. Complete the second quest by handing over one Fallen Flying Gurnard and one Omnithal.
  4. Collect Requis Essence from the quest reward.

The second quest is unavailable until the first Magical Diver quest is complete. Current location guides associate the Fallen Flying Gurnard with Sunken Reliquary and list the Fallen Rod as required for it to appear in the fishing pool. See the Fallen Flying Gurnard guide for that requirement.

Other Requis Essence sources

Requis Essence can also drop from Fallen Dripstones mined during a Dripstone Collapse. The current loot listing gives it a 5% chance per mined Dripstone. It is also included in the Personal Aquarium item pool, where each Essence is listed at 0.05% per item roll.

Tide Essence

Dripstone Collapse

Tide Essence is available by mining Dripstones during a Dripstone Collapse in Tidefall. The current event data lists a 5% chance per mined Dripstone.

The event can occur in the Tidefall central area, Collapsed Ruins, Crowned Ruins, Coral Bastion, and Tidefall Castle or Inner Tidefall Castle where applicable. It is not restricted to one fixed spawn point. Watch for the announcement:

Dripstone Collapse has begun in (location it started in)!

Travel to the location named in that message, equip a Pickaxe, and mine the falling Dripstones. Each one takes multiple Pickaxe hits and can produce Rock, Stalactite, Requis Essence, Tide Essence, or Thalass Essence.

Quests and Personal Aquarium

Tide Essence is also listed as a reward from eligible NPC quests in Tidefall, Sunken Reliquary, Collapsed Ruins, Crowned Ruins, and Coral Bastion. The Personal Aquarium can provide it as an item reward at a listed 0.05% chance per item roll.

Thalass Essence

Thalass Essence comes primarily from Dripstone Collapse. When the event begins:

  1. Read the announcement to identify the active sub-location.
  2. Go to that Tidefall area.
  3. Equip a Pickaxe.
  4. Mine the falling Dripstones until Thalass Essence drops.

The current event loot table lists Thalass Essence at a 5% chance per mined Dripstone. It can also be obtained through the Personal Aquarium, where its listed chance is 0.05% per item roll.

How to start Dripstone Collapse

Wait for the natural event

Dripstone Collapse can occur naturally, with the current event listing giving it a 10% chance every six minutes. Because the event is localized, check the announcement before searching for Dripstones.

Use the Dripstone Collapse Totem

The Dripstone Collapse Totem is sold near the Tidefall entrance and central shop area, around the Personal Aquarium. Its current listed price is 7,500,000 C$. The price was previously listed as 35,000,000 C$, but that figure is outdated. See the current totem listing for the present price and location.

How to use the three Essences

  1. Enter Tidefall.
  2. From the central area, enter Sunken Reliquary.
  3. Follow the long corridor to the fishing pool at the end.
  4. Interact with the three Infusion Altars.
  5. Place Tide Essence, Requis Essence, and Thalass Essence.

Placing all three unlocks Mella’s rod-upgrade interaction. For a normal modification, Mella then requires an Exotic fish and a Secret fish. A Divine Secret can be offered instead. The three Essences are consumed when a normal modification is completed; a Divine Secret modification uses the Divine Secret in place of the normal Exotic-and-Secret requirement and preserves the Essences. More details are listed on the Mella page.

Personal Aquarium requirements

To check Aquarium rewards, open the top-right Aquariums tab beside Menu. Personal Aquarium access requires level 25. Because the listed chance is only 0.05% per item roll for each Essence, the Aquarium is a possible alternative rather than a dependable farming method.

Quick Recap

Important corrections

  • All three Essences, including Requis Essence, are listed in the Dripstone Collapse loot table at 5% per mined Dripstone.
  • Not every Dripstone gives an Essence. Rock and Stalactite are also possible results.
  • Dripstones do not always appear in one location. Follow the event announcement.
  • The Totem costs 7,500,000 C$ in current listings, not the outdated 35,000,000 C$ price.
  • Community pages may spell Requis inconsistently as “Requies” or “Requires.” These references generally describe the same Requis Essence rather than separate items.
