The Games Wiki’s fan guide reports 13 core ranch animal types across five tiers, from beginner rabbits to expert alpacas and ostriches. The tier list is a community guide, not an official guarantee; check the current in-game requirements because updates can change unlocks and tasks.
Animal unlocks by ranch tier
The following progression is reported by The Games Wiki’s ranching guide. Complete the tier certifications in order to reach the animals listed at each level.
| Ranch tier | Animals reported at this tier | What they’re useful for |
|---|---|---|
| Beginner | Rabbit | Clears weeds and provides wool. |
| Junior | Chicken, duck | Chickens provide eggs and feathers and clear bugs; ducks provide eggs and feathers and clear snails in paddy fields. |
| Intermediate | Pig, cow, sheep, bumblebee | Pigs provide truffles, cows provide milk, sheep provide wool, and bees provide honey and are described as helping fertilize nearby crops. |
| Senior | Horse, spotted deer, musk deer | Higher-tier animals include mounts and product-bearing animals; the guide identifies horses and some deer as rideable. |
| Expert | Alpaca, ostrich | Alpacas provide wool; ostriches provide eggs and feathers. Both are listed as one-person mounts. |
The tier roster and animal roles come from The Games Wiki’s ranching guide and related fan-wiki entries. Its 13-type count covers these core ranch types, not every animal or variant in the game.
How to start ranching and advance
- Find Pastelle. Speak with her at Green Pasture Ranch and start the Rancher profession. The profession guide says the Apprentice quest awards one rabbit and blueprints for a rabbit hutch, feeder, and brush. See the Rancher Profession guide.
- Prepare the ranch before buying more animals. Build suitable housing and arrange feed, storage, and space to collect products. A version-checked community guide recommends keeping several days of feed in reserve and deciding on a breeding goal before pairing animals: Starsand Island ranching guide.
- Earn the tier certifications. The reported progression is Junior for chickens and ducks, Intermediate for pigs, cows, sheep, and bees, Senior for horses and deer, then Expert for alpacas and ostriches. Certification details can change, so use the current quest log as the authority.
- Complete the profession tasks between tiers. The Rancher Profession guide describes Junior certification tasks involving chicken care and Giant Eggs, an Intermediate task involving breeding a Lop-Eared Rabbit, and a Senior task involving breeding and delivering a White Horse. These are guide-reported examples, not confirmed current requirements.
What each animal does on the ranch
Field helpers
- Rabbits: Target ordinary farmland weeds.
- Chickens: Clear insects from trellises.
- Ducks: Clear snails from paddy fields.
These jobs are plot-specific. The version-checked ranching guide says regular helpers have limited daily work counts, so place each near the plot it serves rather than expecting one animal to maintain every field.

Products, mounts, and other roles
- Chickens and ducks: Produce eggs and feathers; the fan-wiki entries say chicks may be found in trees and ducklings in bushes, or purchased at Green Pasture Ranch.
- Pigs and cows: Provide truffles and milk, respectively, according to The Games Wiki guide.
- Sheep: Produce wool. The fan-wiki entry also describes color variants and adult rideability.
- Bumblebees: Produce honey and are described as helping fertilize nearby crops.
- Horses and deer: The guide lists some as rideable; it describes horses as two-person mounts and spotted deer as one-person mounts.
- Alpacas and ostriches: The guide associates alpacas with wool and ostriches with eggs and feathers, and lists both as one-person mounts.
Animal roles and mount details are reported in The Games Wiki’s ranching guide, its chicken entry, its duck entry, and its sheep entry. These are community sources; confirm details in your current game version.
Prices reported by the guide
The Games Wiki lists these purchase prices, but prices may change, and its tables give varying precision for Intermediate animals. Treat them as guide-reported figures, not guaranteed current prices.
| Animal tier | Reported price |
|---|---|
| Beginner rabbit | 75 coins |
| Junior chicken or duck | 300 coins |
| Intermediate animals | 400–650 coins, depending on animal and table |
| Senior animals | 1,350 coins |
| Expert animals | 2,750 coins |
What “all animals” includes
The 13 types above are the core ranch roster counted by The Games Wiki. A separate Starsand Island Wiki animal index lists 57 entries, but that is not 57 basic farm species: it includes variants and animals from other categories. The sheep page, for example, lists named variants such as Blue, Cyan, Cloud, Green, Orange, Purple, Red, Snowool, Yellow Sheep, Duswool, and Ebowool.
For collection completion, use Islandpedia in the game as your checklist. The community sources do not establish a complete, verified set of breeding parent pairs, so don’t treat any partial variant list as a definitive breeding recipe chart.

Plan care before expanding the herd
Ranching takes ongoing infrastructure and daily care. The version-checked community guide says feed, cleanliness, and happiness affect useful products and breeding outcomes. Set up housing, feed reserves, storage, and collection space before expanding, and grow at a pace your care routine can support. These are planning recommendations, not profession requirements.
