Halo Infinite has six ranked divisions: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Onyx. Bronze through Diamond each have six sub-ranks; Onyx begins at 1,500 Competitive Skill Rank (CSR), has no sub-ranks and has no hard cap, according to Halo Waypoint’s ranked explainer. Reaching it means building visible CSR through ranked play—not following a guaranteed number of wins or a fixed climb formula.

What are all the Halo Infinite ranks?

The ranked ladder has six divisions. The first five are divided into six sub-ranks each, numbered 1 through 6, with 1 the entry point and 6 the highest sub-rank in that division. Onyx is displayed as a CSR number rather than a numbered sub-rank. Halo Waypoint describes Onyx as the highest rank offered in the system covered by its explainer.

Division Sub-ranks or display
Bronze Bronze 1–6
Silver Silver 1–6
Gold Gold 1–6
Platinum Platinum 1–6
Diamond Diamond 1–6
Onyx Numeric CSR display beginning at 1,500; no sub-ranks or hard cap, per Halo Waypoint’s explainer

That means there is no “Onyx 1–6” tier. The number shown for an Onyx player continues to express CSR; the cited explanation says it has no fixed upper limit.

What do CSR and MMR mean?

CSR, or Competitive Skill Rank, is the visible rank you see in ranked play. MMR, or Matchmaking Rating, is a separate estimate of player skill that Halo says is used primarily for matchmaking. Halo Waypoint explains that CSR trends toward MMR over time, but the two values are not interchangeable: one is the displayed progression, while the other helps the game assess skill for matchmaking.

Why does CSR exist as a separate concept from MMR? It gives players a visible competitive ladder and progression, while the underlying skill estimate can serve matchmaking. Halo’s explainer says CSR progression takes match outcome, the relative skill of teammates and opponents, and individual performance into account. Those factors mean a player’s visible rank is not simply a direct readout of one match’s kill count or of MMR.

How do you hit Onyx?

There is no sourced universal recipe, required win streak, or fixed number of games that guarantees Onyx. Halo’s explanation supports a practical approach: aim to win, make meaningful contributions to the objective and team, and evaluate performance across a run of matches rather than treating one stat as the entire ranking system.

  1. Play to win the match and rounds. Match outcome is one of the factors Halo identifies in CSR progression.
  2. Contribute beyond kills. Individual performance matters, but the official explanation also names outcomes and relative player skill; it does not say kills alone determine CSR.
  3. Review patterns across multiple games. Look for recurring decisions that help or hurt your team—such as objective participation, positioning, and coordination—and work on them deliberately.
  4. Use the current in-game rank and playlist details. Resets, placement requirements and playlist rules have changed, so rely on the prompts and current support information rather than assuming an older season’s rules still apply.

This is guidance based on the factors Halo has described, not an official guaranteed method. No official statistic in the cited material establishes what share of players reaches Onyx or how many matches a player will need.

Which ranked playlists are available?

Halo Support’s playlist page, updated August 25, 2026, lists Ranked Arena, Ranked Doubles and Ranked Slayer as continuously available rather than part of the rotation. It lists Ranked Snipers in the rotational slot from September 29 through November 2, 2026, followed by a planned rank reset on November 3, 2026. The support page cautions that the schedule can change, so check the live listing and in-game menus for the current status.

Choose a format that suits how you want to coordinate and play: Arena, Doubles, Slayer or the current specialty playlist. The cited schedule establishes availability, but does not establish that every playlist uses identical rank or matchmaking rules.

What should you know about placements and resets?

Do not rely on an old placement-match count as a current rule. Halo’s Season 3 update reduced placements from ten matches to five at that time, and a June 2025 patch note later described a ranked reset requiring players to complete placement matches. The playlist schedule published in August 2026 gives a planned reset date but does not state the number of placement matches. After a reset, follow the current in-game prompt.

High-CSR rules can also be time-specific. A Halo Waypoint ranked update says that, starting July 30 (the year is not established in the retrieved excerpt), players at 1,700 CSR begin solo/duo search and gain or lose seven CSR per match under that update. That rule should not be treated as timeless; confirm it in current game information before relying on it.
