The Iron Hand Guild has five targets: four merchants and its leader. To take the shortest route, defeat Merchant Tamao in Kyoto to reveal Iron Hand’s location, defeat the leader at Fukuchiyama Castle, then return to Imai Sokun in Sakai. The other three merchants can be spared. The listed quest rewards include a Naoe trinket, Gold, an engraving, and the Zashiki building; guides disagree on the XP total.
Where are all Iron Hand Guild members?
The locations below follow the region and sub-area hierarchy used in the quest guidance. The target positions and item drops are guide-reported, not independently verified in-game.
| Target | Region and sub-area | Location and notes |
|---|---|---|
| Merchant Tamao | Yamashiro > Kyoto > Honpoji Temple | Inside a building that cannot be entered. Destroy the large pots and other destructible objects around the house to draw him out. He drops “Letter regarding Kyoto.” |
| Merchant Kin-no-suke | Wakasa > Obama > Trading Port | At the east end of the port. He drops “Letter Regarding Obama.” His “Dirty Dealing” and “Trading Pass” subquests are optional. |
| Merchant Ginroku | Tamba > Miyazu Bay > Miyazu Castle | Outside the castle’s west entrance. He drops “Letter regarding Tamba.” |
| Merchant Kanta | Omi > Mouth of Seta > Otsu Upper District | In a house. He drops “Letter regarding Otsu Port.” The “Missing Ship” subquest is optional. |
| Iron Hand | Tamba > Fukuchiyama > Fukuchiyama Castle | Around the castle grounds, usually in the southeast corner among other enemies. |
How to unlock the Iron Hand Guild objective
Guides describe the unlock in different stages. Gamer Guides says to progress through “Temple of the Horseman” and the following story quests until control returns to the open world, then find a letter at Katano Oil Trading, southwest of Katano Castle in northern Izumi Settsu. It is in a small house near Chief Cuckoo, on a table to the left of a chest. Following Chief Cuckoo’s Kabukimono objective can lead to the trading area. The letter is signed by Iron Hand and unlocks an Unknown Organization segment on the Objectives board, later identified as The Iron Hand Guild (Gamer Guides).
PowerPyx instead describes Act 2 story progress as unlocking the quest automatically and identifies Imai Sokun in Sakai, Izumi Settsu, as the quest giver. Its route is to track the objective under People of Settsu > Imai Sokun (PowerPyx). These accounts can be read as separate steps: story progress and objective discovery, followed by locating or speaking with Imai Sokun to track the quest.

Can you skip the other merchants?
Yes. Merchant Tamao is the required detour: his letter makes Iron Hand trackable. After collecting it, go to Fukuchiyama Castle and defeat the leader. The walkthrough reports that this is enough to complete the objective, so Kin-no-suke, Ginroku, and Kanta do not all have to be defeated.
Taking the full route means tracking down all four merchants before the leader. The walkthrough says individual merchant kills add XP, money, and item rewards, but does not give a comparable total for those extras. That route also gives you access to optional branches:

What are the Iron Hand Guild quest rewards?
PowerPyx lists 5,500 XP, Naoe’s legendary trinket “Fujin’s Tempest,” Gold (a crafting material), the legendary engraving “Damage for Alerted Provinces,” and the “Zashiki” building, which the guide says is needed for the Suture Self trophy (PowerPyx). Gamer Guides lists 5,000 XP, a Legendary Trinket for Naoe, and a piece of Gold (Gamer Guides).
The XP totals conflict, and neither guide identifies a game patch version for its quest information. Treat the exact XP amount as uncertain unless you check the in-game reward screen; the more detailed PowerPyx list names the trinket, Gold, engraving, and building.
