In Quarantine Zone: The Last Check, a strange-looking survivor is not automatically infected. The symptom guides group findings into three practical categories: safe to admit, possibly infected and worth further screening, or infected. Use the tools you have unlocked to check hidden evidence, then send uncertain cases to quarantine or the lab instead of treating every oddity as a definite diagnosis.
How to read the symptom categories
The categories below come from Insider Gaming’s symptom guide, rather than an official in-game medical manual. Treat them as a useful reference and follow the current checklist in your build if its rules differ.
| Guide category | Examples | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Good to Go | Yellow eyes, freckles, bruises | These can be non-infection signs under the guide’s classification. Do not reject a survivor based on an unusual appearance alone. |
| Possibly Infected | Conjunctivitis; temperature from 37 to 41 degrees; pulse from 120 to 180; hyper reflex; sneezing; hiccups; coughing; sick breath | These findings are ambiguous in the guide. Continue screening, or use quarantine when you cannot resolve the uncertainty. |
| Infected | Necrosis, bite marks, red eyes, temperature above 41 degrees, pulse above 180 | The guide classifies these as infection signs. Use the game’s current checklist and disposition options. |
The guide describes three dispositions: allow passage, quarantine, or deny entry. The official Steam description frames the loop as routing healthy survivors to the living block and suspicious cases to quarantine or the lab. In practice, quarantine is the useful middle option when a finding is uncertain; denial is not the same thing as a confirmed diagnosis.
What each inspection tool can reveal
Tools uncover different kinds of evidence, and the full set is not necessarily available at the start. PC Gamer’s guide maps the tools to these checks:
#1 Best Overall
- EXCITING SURVIVAL GAMEPLAY: Navigate a sinking island to escape with the most treasures, dodging new terrifying monsters and rival players who might thwart your plans.
- INCLUDES NEW MONSTER CHALLENGE: Enhance your game with the inclusion of a brand-new monster, adding unpredictability and thrilling challenges to every round.
- EXPANDED PLAYER OPTIONS: Now accommodating up to 5 players, this version allows more friends and family to join in the suspenseful escape from the treacherous island.
- STRATEGIC GAME OF RISK AND REWARD: Players must balance the pursuit of treasure with their survival instincts, making strategic decisions that could either aid their escape or doom them to the island’s fate.
- PERFECT FOR FAMILY GAME NIGHT: Designed for players aged 10 and up, this game is an ideal choice for family gatherings, offering a blend of strategy, excitement, and competitive fun.
| Tool | Evidence it can reveal |
|---|---|
| Thermopulsometer | Heart rate and temperature |
| Reflex hammer | Limb reactions |
| Stethoscope | Breathing sounds, including wheezing or growling |
| Scanner | Surface marks such as bruises, bites, necrosis, rashes, and cuts |
| X-ray | Internal bleeding, mold, and foreign objects |
| Matioscope | Bacteria and parasites in the eyes |
| UV light | Infection signs on the body or belongings |
Use the inspection options currently shown in your checklist: later tools and symptom choices unlock through progression. A result you cannot check yet is not evidence that the survivor is clear.
What UV light does—and what it does not mean
UV light is a way to expose infection signs on a survivor or their belongings that may not be apparent in an ordinary visual inspection. It is one part of the evidence-gathering process, not a guarantee that every unusual glow or mark has one fixed meaning. Compare what you find with the game’s checklist and the other available checks before choosing a disposition.

Windows Central’s overview also distinguishes visible marks from hidden bites, breathing clues, UV evidence, and internal findings revealed by X-ray. That is why a quick look at a survivor and a tool-based inspection can lead to different levels of confidence.
When a symptom is ambiguous
Separate the observation from the diagnosis
A cough, for example, may be ordinary sickness or may accompany “infected breath” detectable with a stethoscope, according to Windows Central’s overview. The symptom guide likewise puts coughing and sick breath among its possibly infected findings. Check the breathing evidence rather than deciding from the cough alone.

Use quarantine for unresolved cases
The official Steam listing describes quarantine and laboratory screening as part of the checkpoint loop. A community guide on the Quarantine Zone Wiki describes green findings as sickness without infection, orange as uncertain and requiring quarantine, and red as infected; it also recommends thorough inspections and later rechecks of quarantined survivors. That color advice is a community guide, not an official developer ruling.
Recheck conflicting tool results
Some Steam discussion participants report uncertainty about UV findings, reflex-hammer responses, and scanner warnings. One poster describes differences between a normal, aggressive, and opposite-limb response; another says the scanner can miss or inaccurately report UV-related findings. These are anecdotal player reports, not verified universal mechanics. If results conflict, repeat the relevant check where possible, inspect with another unlocked tool, and use quarantine rather than assuming that one disputed reading settles the case.

A practical screening order
- Start with the checklist. Note which symptoms and tools are currently available; not every check is unlocked from the beginning.
- Inspect visible signs. Look for surface findings and use the scanner for marks the game allows it to reveal.
- Use the relevant tools. Check temperature and pulse, limb reactions, breathing, eyes, UV evidence, or internal findings as appropriate and available.
- Compare evidence with the categories. A guide-listed safe sign is not automatically infection; a possibly infected sign calls for more evidence or observation; a guide-listed infected sign is treated as infection by that reference.
- Choose a disposition based on certainty. Allow passage for cases the game’s evidence supports as safe, use quarantine or lab follow-up for unresolved suspicion, and deny entry when the game’s rules call for it.
- Recheck quarantined survivors. Follow the in-game process and any later findings before making a final decision.
Sources and version caveat
The official Steam store listing establishes the checkpoint screening premise and the quarantine, lab, and living-block loop. The symptom categories above are summarized from Insider Gaming’s symptom guide; tool mappings are from PC Gamer’s guide; ambiguity and quarantine context also draw on Windows Central’s overview and the Quarantine Zone Wiki guide. Since those detailed classifications come from secondary guides and game behavior may change with patches, the current in-game checklist should take priority.
