Rocket League’s Competitive ranks are tiered labels for your standing in each ranked playlist, while MMR is the rating behind that standing. The current top end is Grand Champion I, II and III, followed by Supersonic Legend; for the complete live ladder and divisions, check the rank display in-game because the official sources cited here do not establish every current lower tier or division. You can now choose to show Competitive MMR in-game, making it easier to track progress without treating one playlist’s rank as a guarantee of another’s.
What are all Rocket League ranks?
Rocket League’s rank ladder is organized into tiers and, for many tiers, divisions. The official sources available here confirm the top-end naming but do not verify the full current list of lower tiers and divisions. Use the in-game Competitive playlist screen as the authority for the complete ladder shown in your current client.
| Rank tier | Divisions | What the cited official sources establish |
|---|---|---|
| Lower and middle tiers | Check the in-game rank display | Not stated in the cited official sources as a complete current ladder. |
| Grand Champion | Grand Champion I, Grand Champion II, Grand Champion III | Grand Champion was divided into three tiers in the free-to-play era. |
| Supersonic Legend | Not stated | The top rank above Grand Champion, according to Psyonix’s 2020 announcement. |
Psyonix introduced the Grand Champion split and Supersonic Legend with the free-to-play-era rank changes. That history supports the names at the top of the ladder, not a claim that every lower rank or division has remained unchanged since then. See Psyonix’s announcement of seasons and new ranks.
How do rank and MMR relate?
MMR is the numerical skill rating used to track competitive standing; your displayed rank tier and division make that standing easier to read. In v2.66, Psyonix added an option to show MMR on Competitive playlist tiles and on the scoreboard after Ranked matches. The setting applies to Competitive, not Casual. Details are in the v2.66 patch notes.

Ratings are playlist-specific. A rank in one playlist is not a direct conversion for another: the modes can reward different playstyles, and the game does not promise a one-to-one transfer of skill or MMR between them.
Why can placements differ from your other playlist ranks?
Placement matches in a playlist may begin at a rank that surprises you, especially after time away. Psyonix says the system may adjust a player’s rank upward during placements when a particular set of conditions applies: the playlist being placed is stale, another playlist is fresh, and the player’s current rank is significantly below the rank the system predicts. This is a case-by-case adjustment, not a rule that every stale playlist inherits your highest rank. The explanation also recognizes that playlists differ in playstyle. How to get the edge in Rocket League using in-game tools
Track Competitive MMR across matches
Turn on the optional MMR display if you want a clearer view of rating changes. Compare trends across multiple matches in the same playlist rather than drawing conclusions from one result; do not use a number from one mode as a prediction for another.
Make Custom Training less predictable
Version 2.66 added randomization controls for ball speed, ball location, ball height, vehicle location and vehicle rotation in Custom Training. Varying these inputs can help you rehearse a skill under different starting conditions instead of relying only on a memorized setup. This is a practice option, not a guarantee of rank gain.

- HAIR TRIGGER MODE WITH TRIGGER STOP-SWITCHES — For a competitive edge, activate Hair Trigger Mode via two slide-locks on the underside of the controller that greatly reduce travel distance to the main triggers, enabling an ultra-fast rate of fire
- 3.5MM ANALOG AUDIO PORT — Game on for hours in comfort with the ease and convenience of plugging 3.5mm audio device straight into the controller, instead of the console
Use large boost-pad respawn information
Large boost pads take 10 seconds to respawn, and v2.66 added a visual recharge indicator. Use the on-field indicator and timing to make more informed routes through the arena rather than assuming a pad is available as soon as you pass it.
These MMR, training and boost-pad changes are documented in Rocket League’s v2.66 patch notes. They provide tools and information for deliberate practice, but none establishes a shortcut or guaranteed result.

What older rank-reset information can—and cannot—tell you
Psyonix’s 2020 free-to-play release notes described a season reset that compressed the skill curve toward Gold III. That is historical context, not evidence for how the current season’s reset works. Do not rely on it to predict your present placement or a current reset outcome. The archived description appears in Psyonix’s free-to-play release notes.
