Vyse is a Sentinel whose four abilities punish careless pushes: Shear isolates an enemy, Arc Rose blinds players looking toward it, Razorvine slows and damages players who move through it, and Steel Garden temporarily jams enemy primary weapons. Her strongest setups turn that disruption into a prepared fight rather than relying on any one ability to win a round.
The ability descriptions below reflect Riot’s Patch 11.08 changes from October 14, 2025, the latest located patch with specific Vyse balance changes. Riot’s Patch 13.02 notes from July 28, 2026, include a Razorvine bug fix, while the latest located patch page, Patch 13.06 from September 22, 2026, does not mention Vyse. Ability costs, charge counts, and some current durations are not established by these sources; check the in-client descriptions for those details.
What does Shear do?
Shear places a hidden wall trap made of liquid-metal filaments. When an enemy enters and then exits its trigger zone, an indestructible wall rises behind them for a short time, separating them from teammates. Enemies hear a cue when they enter the zone, audible only to them, so they can probe the area and bait the wall before committing. Riot clarified the trigger and cue in Patch 11.08.
Use Shear to split an entry and create a brief opportunity to take a duel or combine with another ability. It is a temporary isolation tool, not a permanent barrier. Riot designer Kevin Meier described wall followed by flash as a strong Vyse combination in the Vyse developer article.

What does Arc Rose do?
Arc Rose can be placed stealthed on or through a surface, then activated to blind players looking at it. Vyse can retrieve it and place it again. Because it blinds players who look toward it, where and when it is activated matter: place it where opponents may look while entering a site or clearing an angle.
Patch 11.08 made Arc Rose destructible after its flash windup begins. Riot also changed its flash duration from 2.25 seconds to 2.0 seconds, raised the cooldown after destruction from 45 to 60 seconds, and set a 20-second cooldown whenever it is recalled. The update removed the successful-flash audio cue and voice line that had alerted Vyse and her allies. These figures are Riot’s dated patch changes, not a claim about every current in-client value. What does Razorvine do?
Vyse launches a liquid-metal nest. It becomes invisible when it lands; when activated, it spreads into a larger nest that slows and damages players moving through it. Riot’s developer article notes that moving through the active nest is noisy and advises caught players to stop and prepare for a duel.
Place Razorvine near a choke or pair it with Shear to make a separated opponent’s movement costly. Its slow and damage apply to players moving through the active nest; the ability is not described as damaging players who remain still.

Patch 11.08 reduced Razorvine’s health from 40 to 20. Riot later fixed a bug in Patch 13.02 that could make it indestructible if it was deployed at the same moment Vyse was suppressed. That later note describes a bug fix, not a balance change. Patch 11.08 and Patch 13.02.
What does Steel Garden do?
Steel Garden sends metal thorns outward after Vyse equips and fires it. After a windup, it jams enemy primary weapons in its area. Affected players can still use pistols and abilities, so it restricts weapon choice rather than disabling opponents completely. Riot designer Kevin Meier explained that the effect can create a gun advantage for Vyse’s team or neutralize one when her team is on a low-buy round.

Patch 11.08 increased the initial windup from 3.4 seconds to 4.4 seconds and reduced the radius from 32.5 meters to 26 meters. Those dated changes make timing and positioning important: allow for the windup, and do not assume enemies caught in the area lose access to every weapon or action. Riot lists the changes in Patch 11.08.

- Set the trap: place Shear where an enemy may cross a choke or commit to an entry.
- Use the separation: when the wall splits an opponent from their teammates, take the duel or activate a prepared Arc Rose to challenge players looking toward it.
- Make movement costly: use Razorvine to slow and damage players who move through the active nest, especially around a choke.
- Disrupt a group fight: time Steel Garden to create a temporary window in which affected enemies cannot use their primary weapons.
These abilities create opportunities, not guaranteed kills. The Shear cue gives an alert enemy a chance to test the trigger, Arc Rose can be destroyed once its flash windup starts, and Steel Garden has a windup before its effect takes hold. Riot introduced Vyse in Patch 9.04 and described her as a Sentinel focused on punishing careless entries. Its 2024 design commentary also said she was intended to watch lanes less directly than agents such as Cypher or Killjoy; that is a description of the design approach, not a current ranking of agents.
