You cannot assign a fixed amount of system RAM to Warzone through a supported Windows setting or in-game slider. Windows and Warzone allocate memory dynamically. If the game is not using all of your installed RAM, that is usually normal—not evidence that memory is being withheld.

The practical fixes are to free physical RAM, install more RAM, keep Windows virtual memory enabled, reduce texture and streaming demand, restart or repair the game, and—only as an optional experiment—test a standby-memory utility. Do not confuse system RAM with graphics-card VRAM, shared GPU memory, or page-file space.

Updated August 18, 2026. Activision’s current Warzone PC requirements page was updated March 11, 2026.

What “allocate more RAM” really means

There is no reliable supported control that reserves, for example, 8 GB or 16 GB exclusively for Warzone. Windows is not a console memory-reservation system. It assigns memory to applications as they request it and reclaims cached data when another application needs it.

Crucial 32GB DDR5 RAM Kit (2x16GB), 5600MHz (or 5200MHz or 4800MHz) Laptop Memory 262-Pin SODIMM, Compatible with Intel Core and AMD Ryzen 7000, Black - CT2K16G56C46S5
  • Boosts System Performance: 32GB DDR5 RAM laptop memory kit (2x16GB) that operates at 5600MHz, 5200MHz, or 4800MHz to improve multitasking and system responsiveness for smoother performance
  • Accelerated gaming performance: Every millisecond gained in fast-paced gameplay counts—power through heavy workloads and benefit from versatile downclocking and higher frame rates
  • Optimized DDR5 compatibility: Best for 12th Gen Intel Core and AMD Ryzen 7000 Series processors — Intel XMP 3.0 and AMD EXPO also supported on the same RAM module
  • Trusted Micron Quality: Backed by 42 years of memory expertise, this DDR5 RAM is rigorously tested at both component and module levels, ensuring top performance and reliability
  • ECC Type = Non-ECC, Form Factor = SODIMM, Pin Count = 262-Pin, PC Speed = PC5-44800, Voltage = 1.1V, Rank And Configuration = 1Rx8

Setting Warzone’s process priority to High does not give it more RAM. It changes CPU scheduling behavior and can make the system less responsive or produce worse performance. Likewise, editing configuration values such as RendererWorkerCount changes CPU worker behavior, not system-memory allocation. VideoMemoryScale concerns the game’s graphics-memory budget; it is not a switch that assigns more system RAM to Warzone.

Activision currently lists 8 GB RAM as the minimum, 12 GB as recommended for 60 FPS at high settings, and 16 GB for competitive/high-refresh or Ultra 4K configurations. These are requirements for specified configurations, not amounts that can be manually assigned and not guarantees of a particular frame rate. See Activision’s current PC requirements.

Term Meaning Can you directly assign it to Warzone?
System RAM Physical memory used by Windows and applications No fixed supported allocation
VRAM Dedicated memory on the graphics card No; it is controlled by the GPU and game
Shared GPU memory System RAM Windows may make available to the GPU Dynamically managed
Page file Disk-backed virtual-memory commit capacity Can be configured, but is much slower than RAM
Cached/standby memory Data Windows can reclaim when needed Not automatically wasted memory

Check whether RAM is actually the problem

  1. Start Warzone and load into the firing range or a match long enough to reproduce the problem.
  2. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  3. Choose Performance → Memory and note installed RAM, memory in use, available memory, and committed memory.
  4. Choose Processes and sort by the Memory column to identify the largest consumer.
  5. Open Performance → GPU and distinguish dedicated GPU memory from shared GPU memory.

Physical memory approaching 90–100% at the same time that available memory becomes low, committed memory approaches its limit, disk activity rises, and applications stutter is evidence that capacity or virtual-memory configuration may be involved.

High RAM usage by itself is not proof of a fault. Windows uses available memory for active data and cache and can reclaim some of it. If RAM usage is moderate but frame times are poor, investigate GPU utilization, CPU load, thermals, drivers, shader compilation, storage, graphics settings, or network latency instead.

Six ways to improve Warzone’s memory situation

1. Close memory-heavy background applications and overlays

What it changes: It frees RAM that is currently occupied by other software, leaving more available for Windows and Warzone.

Before launching the game, close unnecessary browser tabs and windows, video editors, virtual machines, large file-sync applications, and launchers you do not need. Stop active downloads and browser video playback. Temporarily disable overlays such as:

  • Discord overlay
  • Xbox Game Bar capture
  • NVIDIA or AMD overlay
  • Steam overlay
  • Third-party monitoring or RGB utilities

Use Task Manager to identify unusually large processes, but do not end Windows system processes indiscriminately. This is the safest immediate interpretation of “allocate more RAM”: it changes nothing in Warzone and simply reduces competition for memory.

On an 8 GB PC, closing applications may postpone the problem but is unlikely to provide the headroom of a hardware upgrade. If the game improves only when every background application is closed, multitasking—not a missing allocation setting—is likely the issue.

2. Add more physical RAM

What it changes: It increases the PC’s actual high-speed memory capacity. This is the only method here that creates more physical RAM.

Crucial 32GB DDR5 RAM Kit (2x16GB), 4800MHz CL40 Laptop Memory - Compatible with Intel 12th Gen and AMD Processors - CT2K16G48C40S5
  • Boosts System Performance: 32GB DDR5 RAM laptop memory kit (2x16GB) that operates at 4800MHz to improve multitasking and system responsiveness for smoother performance
  • ECC type = non-ECC, form factor = SODIMM, pin count = 262-pin, PC speed = PC5-38400, voltage = 1.1V, rank and configuration = 1Rx8

As a practical guide:

  • 8 GB: Below the practical target for modern Warzone. Upgrading is the strongest fix.
  • 12 GB: Matches Activision’s current recommended figure, but leaves limited room for Windows, browsers, Discord, recording software, and overlays.
  • 16 GB: A sensible baseline for a gaming-focused Windows PC.
  • 32 GB: The better target for Warzone with browsers, Discord, streaming, recording, or other background software.
  • 64 GB: Usually unnecessary solely for Warzone, though it can make sense for demanding multitasking, content creation, modding, or professional workloads.

Before buying memory, confirm the motherboard or laptop’s maximum capacity and whether the machine uses DDR4 or DDR5. Those generations are not interchangeable. Check whether a laptop has soldered memory, removable modules, or both, and consult its service manual. Prefer a matched kit where possible and use dual-channel operation when the platform supports it.

After installation, verify the capacity in Task Manager or UEFI/BIOS. If crashes begin, test the new memory with Windows Memory Diagnostic or a reputable bootable memory test. More RAM can reduce paging, hitching caused by insufficient capacity, and conflicts with background programs; it does not automatically increase FPS when the GPU or CPU is already the limiting component.

3. Enable or restore the Windows page file

What it changes: The page file increases Windows’ virtual-memory commit capacity. It can help prevent allocation failures when physical RAM is heavily committed, but it does not turn storage into RAM. Disk access is much slower than physical memory.

On Windows 10 and Windows 11:

  1. Press Win + R.
  2. Enter sysdm.cpl and press Enter.
  3. Open the Advanced tab.
  4. Under Performance, select Settings.
  5. Open Advanced.
  6. Under Virtual memory, select Change.
  7. Enable Automatically manage paging file size for all drives.
  8. Click OK and restart if Windows requests it.

For most players, System managed size is the safest setting. Microsoft explains that page-file sizing depends on factors including peak commit usage and crash-dump requirements; there is no universal rule that the page file must equal 1.5 times installed RAM. Read Microsoft’s page-file guidance.

Consider a custom size only if the system-managed file repeatedly fails to expand, the drive is nearly full, a support or crash-dump requirement calls for it, or you are troubleshooting a reproducible commit-limit problem. Use an SSD with adequate free space. Do not disable the page file merely because the PC has 16 GB or 32 GB of RAM.

If a memory error continues, restore System managed size, ensure the page-file drive has free space, restart Windows, check Task Manager’s Committed values, repair the game, and test the RAM if Windows or other games also crash.

4. Reduce texture and streaming demand

What it changes: Lower graphics-memory and asset-streaming requirements. It does not give Warzone more system RAM.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Test these settings first:

  • Lower texture quality by one or two levels.
  • Disable on-demand texture streaming, or reduce its resource budget if your current build exposes that control.
  • Lower texture resolution and detail settings.
  • Reduce shadow and asset-quality settings if pressure continues.

Restart the game after changing major texture or streaming settings. Warzone’s menu labels can change between updates, so use the labels shown in your current build rather than relying on an old screenshot or configuration path.

Texture settings primarily target VRAM and asset streaming. They may reduce total memory pressure, but they are not a substitute for adding system RAM when Windows is genuinely out of physical memory. If dedicated GPU memory is full while system RAM is comfortable, investigate the graphics settings and GPU rather than trying to allocate more RAM.

5. Restart Warzone and repair affected game data

What it changes: A restart clears the game’s current session state. Repairing the installation can replace damaged data that causes crashes, loading problems, or abnormal behavior.

Restart when RAM usage keeps rising during one session, the game becomes progressively more stuttery, menus or loading worsen after several matches, or the problem began immediately after an update.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Exit Warzone normally.
  2. Exit the launcher if it remains active.
  3. Reboot Windows if memory usage remains unusually high.
  4. Use the launcher’s Scan and Repair, Verify integrity, or equivalent function.
  5. Allow shaders and other game data to rebuild completely.
  6. Avoid repeatedly interrupting shader compilation.

Do not delete arbitrary folders or configuration files without confirming the path for your specific build and understanding which settings may be lost. Activision’s PC troubleshooting guidance also recommends meeting the system requirements, keeping Windows current, and using current graphics drivers.

If usage rises after each match and returns to normal after a restart, record Task Manager data and compare sessions with overlays and texture streaming disabled. That pattern may indicate a game or driver regression, but it is not enough by itself to prove a memory leak.

6. Treat a standby-memory utility as a cautious experiment

What it changes: Utilities such as Intelligent Standby List Cleaner (ISLC) monitor and trim Windows standby memory. They do not add physical RAM and do not repair a genuine game memory leak.

Consider this only after testing the game without it and confirming that the download comes from the publisher’s official source, such as Wagnardsoft. Create a restore point or record the original settings before experimenting.

There is no universal ISLC value based only on installed RAM. Trimming too frequently can remove useful cache data and cause additional disk activity. The utility’s documentation discusses these limitations at its settings guide. If performance worsens, stop the utility and return to the original settings. This is a low-confidence troubleshooting option, not a RAM upgrade or a first-line Warzone fix.

Common myths and unsafe fixes

“Set Warzone to High priority.”

Restore the process to Normal if you changed it. Priority affects CPU scheduling, not RAM allocation, and can create scheduling problems or make performance worse.

“Set VideoMemoryScale to 1.0 to make Warzone use more system RAM.”

This is not a supported system-RAM allocation control. It relates to graphics-memory budgeting and should not be presented as a guaranteed fix for Windows memory pressure.

“Disable the page file if you have 32 GB.”

Do not do this as a routine gaming tweak. The page file contributes to Windows’ commit capacity and can help avoid allocation failures even when substantial physical RAM is installed.

“A memory cleaner creates free RAM.”

It may trim reclaimable standby data, but it does not increase physical capacity. Windows can normally reclaim standby memory itself, and aggressive trimming may cause extra disk activity.

“More RAM always means more FPS.”

More RAM mainly helps when the system is short on memory or must multitask. GPU, CPU, VRAM, drivers, thermals, storage, and game settings may determine FPS instead.

“95% or 100% RAM usage proves a memory leak.”

It does not. Check available memory, committed memory, paging, responsiveness, and whether usage rises abnormally over time. Cached memory is not automatically harmful.

When the problem is not system RAM

  • GPU utilization is consistently near 99%.
  • One CPU thread or the CPU overall is saturated.
  • High temperatures are causing clock-speed throttling.
  • The issue is network latency, packet loss, or server-side lag.
  • The error identifies VRAM, graphics drivers, DirectX, or anti-cheat.
  • RAM usage is normal but frame time remains unstable.

If Warzone still crashes despite adequate RAM, check VRAM and GPU-driver status, page-file availability, damaged game files, overclocking or undervolting stability, Windows updates, anti-cheat and security requirements, and defective RAM. Activision currently lists Windows 10 and Windows 11 support; trial, beta, and Insider releases may not be supported. Driver versions and exact requirements are volatile, so use Activision’s current pages rather than an old checklist.

Hardware guidance

For a new or upgraded gaming PC, 16 GB is a reasonable baseline and 32 GB is preferable if Warzone will run alongside browsers, Discord, streaming, recording, or other demanding software. Check DDR generation, form factor, motherboard or laptop support, maximum capacity, and matched-channel operation before purchasing.

Official memory vendor compatibility pages include Crucial, Kingston, Corsair, and G.Skill. Laptop owners should consult the manufacturer’s service manual before assuming an upgrade is possible.

An SSD can help when the game or page file is on a slow hard disk or a nearly full drive, but it does not replace RAM or automatically increase FPS. Do not buy a specific capacity or brand without checking your system and current regional pricing.

Final decision tree

Is physical memory near 100%?
├─ No → Check VRAM, GPU/CPU load, drivers, thermals, storage, and network.
└─ Yes
   ├─ 8 GB → Upgrade RAM.
├─ 12–16 GB → Close apps and enable the system-managed page file.
   ├─ 32 GB+ → Check for a runaway process, update issue, or game-specific problem.
└─ Usage rises during one session → Restart, repair, and document the pattern.
