Yes. Aloy has a sister named Beta. The two are not ordinary siblings with the same biological parents: both are clones of Elisabet Sobeck, created separately by different groups. Their sister relationship is established in Horizon Forbidden West, when Aloy accepts Beta as her sister.

The short answer: Beta is Aloy’s clone sister
Beta is the person most accurately described as Aloy’s sister in the Horizon series. Both characters were produced from the genetic template of Elisabet Sobeck, the scientist whose work is central to the series’ history. That shared source makes them genetic counterparts, although neither was born into a conventional family structure.
The distinction matters because “sister” can mean two different things here. In a biological-family sense, Aloy and Beta do not have the same parents. In a genetic sense, they share Elisabet Sobeck’s DNA because each is a clone of her. In an emotional and narrative sense, Aloy comes to regard Beta as family and accepts her as a sister.

PlayStation’s official recap, Horizon Zero Dawn: The story so far, describes Aloy’s origin directly: “Aloy, however, was truly special: she was a clone of Elisabet Sobeck.” A character overview covering Horizon Forbidden West identifies Beta as another clone and describes Aloy accepting her as a sister.
How Aloy and Beta are related
They share one genetic source
Elisabet Sobeck is the common genetic source for both characters. Aloy is not Elisabet’s daughter in the ordinary human sense; she is a clone made from Elisabet’s genetic material. Beta has the same type of origin. This is why the games can present the two as closely related without giving them shared biological parents.
A clone relationship also explains why the two can resemble Elisabet while still being distinct people. A genetic template does not automatically produce the same personality, memories, experiences or choices. Aloy and Beta grow up in different circumstances, and the story treats those differences as important to who they become.
They were created by different groups
Their origins are separate rather than the result of one family raising two children together. GAIA created Aloy, while Far Zenith created Beta. Those organizations had different purposes and circumstances, so the characters’ early lives were not the same.
| Question | Aloy | Beta |
|---|---|---|
| Who is the genetic source? | Elisabet Sobeck | Elisabet Sobeck |
| How was she created? | As a clone made by GAIA | As a clone made by Far Zenith |
| Where is the sister connection established? | Horizon Forbidden West | |
| Is the relationship based on ordinary shared parentage? | No. They are genetic counterparts created separately. | |
The table’s “sister” label therefore combines genetics and the relationship the characters choose to build. Calling Beta Aloy’s “biological sister” without explaining the cloning would be misleading.

When does Aloy meet her sister?
Beta and the sister relationship belong to Horizon Forbidden West. If you have only played Horizon Zero Dawn, you have not yet reached the part of the series where Aloy meets Beta or accepts her as family.
The first game establishes Aloy’s unusual origin and her connection to Elisabet Sobeck. The sequel extends that idea by introducing another person made from the same genetic source. This is not a retcon that turns a previously mentioned conventional sibling into a new character; it is a later development of the clone mystery introduced in the first game.

In Horizon Forbidden West, Aloy learns that another Elisabet clone exists. Beta’s presence gives Aloy a living counterpart with the same genetic origin, but not the same upbringing. Their meeting forces Aloy to consider what makes someone family: matching DNA, shared history, personal choice, or some combination of all three.
The story does not require Aloy and Beta to have identical views or abilities for the sibling connection to count. Their differences are part of the point. Aloy’s identity was shaped by her life in the Nora lands and by the responsibilities she accepts, while Beta’s circumstances were determined by Far Zenith. The games use that contrast to examine whether a person is defined by an origin, by the people who raise them, or by decisions made later.
Is Beta Aloy’s biological sister?
Not in the usual family-tree sense. Aloy and Beta do not share a mother and father who conceived them together. They are separate clones of Elisabet Sobeck, so the most precise descriptions are “clone sisters,” “genetic counterparts” or “sisters by shared genetic origin.”

At the same time, saying only that they are “not biological sisters” leaves out the relationship the narrative establishes. They are genetically related through the same source, and Aloy accepts Beta as her sister. The complete answer needs both parts: their connection is unusual biologically, but it is real within the story’s family relationship.
Genetic relation versus family relationship
- Genetic relation: Both are clones derived from Elisabet Sobeck.
- Parentage: They are not presented as children born to the same biological parents.
- Creation: GAIA created Aloy; Far Zenith created Beta.
- Family bond: Aloy accepts Beta as a sister in Horizon Forbidden West.
These definitions prevent two opposite mistakes. It is inaccurate to claim they are unrelated strangers, because their shared genetic origin is explicit. It is also inaccurate to describe them as ordinary sisters, because they were created independently and did not come from the same parents.
Why the clone-sister idea matters to Aloy’s story
Aloy spends much of the series dealing with the consequences of being a clone. Her genetic similarity to Elisabet gives her access to systems and facilities that recognize Elisabet, but it does not give her Elisabet’s memories or life. She has to decide what, if anything, she owes to the person whose DNA she carries.
Beta makes that question more personal. Aloy is no longer the only person connected to Elisabet through cloning. Another individual has the same genetic starting point but a different past. That comparison lets the story separate inherited biology from identity. Two people can come from the same template and still need to define themselves independently.
The relationship also changes the meaning of “being alone,” a recurring element of Aloy’s character arc. Aloy’s origin is unusual, and for much of the series she has few people who can understand what it means to be a clone of Elisabet. Beta cannot erase the differences between them, but she is uniquely positioned to understand the pressure attached to that origin.

Aloy’s acceptance is therefore more than a technical label. It is a decision to recognize Beta as a person and as family rather than treating her only as another copy of Elisabet. The game presents that acceptance as part of their developing relationship, not as an automatic consequence of shared DNA.
What is confirmed, and what should not be overstated
Confirmed by the series’ established story
- Aloy is a clone of Elisabet Sobeck.
- Beta is another clone of Elisabet Sobeck.
- GAIA created Aloy.
- Far Zenith created Beta.
- Aloy and Beta meet in Horizon Forbidden West.
- Aloy accepts Beta as her sister.
Claims that need more careful wording
Calling Beta Aloy’s “twin” is an oversimplification. The games establish a shared genetic source, but they were not presented as two embryos from one pregnancy or as siblings born at the same time. “Clone sister” communicates the relationship more accurately.
It is also misleading to say that Beta is Aloy’s sister in Horizon Zero Dawn. Beta’s role and the explicit sister relationship are part of the sequel’s story. The first game is essential background because it reveals Aloy’s clone origin, but it does not introduce Beta as a character.
Finally, shared DNA does not mean shared memories. Beta is not Elisabet returned with Elisabet’s consciousness, and Aloy is not Elisabet reincarnated. The cloning process supplies the genetic link; the characters’ identities come from their own lives.
Common questions about Aloy and Beta
Does Aloy call Beta her sister?
The story establishes that Aloy accepts Beta as her sister. The important point is the relationship’s recognition, not a claim that they have conventional parentage.

Are Aloy and Beta related to Elisabet Sobeck?
Yes. Both are clones of Elisabet, making her their shared genetic source. They are not portrayed as Elisabet’s naturally born daughters.
Who created Aloy and Beta?
GAIA created Aloy, while Far Zenith created Beta. Their separate creators are one reason their childhoods and experiences differ so sharply.
Can I learn about Beta without playing the sequel?
You can learn the basic answer—Beta is Aloy’s clone sister—from a summary, but the relationship is introduced and developed in Horizon Forbidden West. Playing that game provides the context for Aloy’s acceptance and for the contrast between their upbringings.
Where the answer fits in the Horizon timeline
The chronology is straightforward:
- Horizon Zero Dawn establishes Aloy as a clone of Elisabet Sobeck and explains why that origin matters to the ancient-world systems she encounters.
- Horizon Forbidden West introduces Beta as another Elisabet clone.
- During the sequel’s story, Aloy recognizes Beta as a sister, turning a genetic connection into a family relationship.
This timeline is why answers based only on the first game can sound incomplete. “Aloy has no sister” may describe what is known before the sequel, but it is not the correct answer for the series after Beta’s introduction.
Bottom line for players
Aloy does have a sister: Beta. They share Elisabet Sobeck as their genetic source, but GAIA created Aloy and Far Zenith created Beta separately. Their bond is not ordinary sibling biology; it is a clone-based connection that becomes a family relationship when Aloy accepts Beta as her sister in Horizon Forbidden West.
