The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Alphadia I & II adds better text visibility and resolution, mouse and Joy-Con 2 cursor controls, and new story links and extras. The original Switch release remains playable on Switch 2, but Nintendo says its behavior is consistent with the original Switch; that compatibility does not include the enhanced edition’s features.
What changes in the Switch 2 Edition?
Improved readability and new controls
Nintendo says the Switch 2 Edition improves resolution and text visibility. It also supports mouse controls for menu selection and character movement, while Joy-Con 2 (L) can move the cursor and operate some buttons. Nintendo does not give a numeric resolution or frame-rate figure, so the listing does not establish how large the visual or performance difference is.

New links between the two stories
The edition adds cross events between Alphadia I and Alphadia II, with choices in one game affecting the other. It also includes a true ending for Alphadia II, unlocked by completing both titles and meeting specific conditions, plus extras such as an enemy catalog. Nintendo describes these as added content; it does not detail every condition or extra in the listing.

The dates, formats, player and language details, and estimated file sizes come from Nintendo’s US listings. The file-size figures are estimates, not measurements of installed storage use. Neither listing provides a numeric resolution, frame rate, loading-time comparison, or performance test.

Can you play the original Switch game on Switch 2?
Yes. Nintendo marks the original Switch release as supported on Switch 2 and says, “Game behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch.” This is Nintendo’s compatibility statement, not a performance test. It means owners can continue with the existing release; it does not say that the original game receives the Switch 2 Edition’s visual, control, or story additions.
Do existing owners need to buy the game again?
Nintendo lists a separate Switch 2 upgrade pack, and its listing says it requires Alphadia I & II. If you own the base game and want the Switch 2 Edition’s features, check your regional eShop for the upgrade pack’s current price and purchase terms. If you only want to play the game you already own on Switch 2, Nintendo’s compatibility listing says the original release is supported. Prices and terms may vary by region or change over time.

Which version should you choose?
- You already own the Switch game and just want to keep playing: Use the original release on Switch 2; the compatibility listing supports it.
- You want the added story material, readability changes, or new controls: Compare the Switch 2 Edition and the upgrade pack in your local eShop. The upgrade pack requires the base game.
- You are deciding whether Switch 2 is necessary for these games: It is not necessary to play the original Switch release. The Switch 2-specific additions are available in the separate Switch 2 Edition.
Release and game details
Alphadia I & II is a single-player RPG from KEMCO and Exe Create. Nintendo lists Japanese and American English support and estimated file sizes of 1 GB for the Switch release and 1.5 GB for the Switch 2 Edition. The Nintendo listings covered here are digital editions; they do not establish whether physical cartridges are available.
