Player 1 is Kirby; Player 2 is Bandana Waddle Dee. Both play on one system—this is not online co-op between separate consoles.
Start a two-player co-op game
- Start Kirby and the Forgotten Land and select a save file.
- Choose Play Co-op from the menu. You can also pause during a stage and select Play Co-op to bring in a second player. Nintendo’s co-op guide describes both routes.
- Assign the controls: Player 1 plays as Kirby and Player 2 plays as Bandana Waddle Dee. Nintendo’s guide describes passing a Joy-Con to a friend.
The game supports one or two players on a single system, according to the Nintendo US product listing.
What Player 2 can do
Kirby can float and inhale enemies, while Bandana Waddle Dee attacks with a spear. Player 2 can join or leave at any time, including during a stage, so a second player can help for only part of a level or boss fight. Nintendo developers describe co-op as a way to take on bosses together in their Ask the Developer interview.
How the shared screen works
The game keeps both characters visible with a camera that follows Kirby; it does not split the screen. In the same interview, developer Kamiyama says, “The screen will always show both players to ensure a smooth co-op experience.” Since the camera follows Kirby, the two players share the view rather than controlling separate camera areas.

Can you play online or with two consoles?
No. The co-op described by Nintendo is for two players on the same system. It does not let two people join one game online from separate consoles, nor does it provide two-player local wireless co-op. For local co-op, both players need to use the same console.
Controllers and system compatibility
Nintendo’s instructions describe sharing a Joy-Con with a second player. The exact controller setup may depend on your system and available controllers. The product listing supports TV, tabletop and handheld play, but cautions that compatibility and play experience can differ on Nintendo Switch Lite and that additional accessories may be required. Check Nintendo’s compatibility details for your hardware before relying on a particular Lite setup.

Nintendo says its free demo has three stages and supports two-player local co-op. Demo availability can vary by region, so check the eShop listing for your region rather than assuming it is offered everywhere. Nintendo’s demo announcement also confirms co-op play is included.
