Yes. BioWare confirmed in its November 7, 2025 N7 Day update that it is working closely with Amazon on a Mass Effect television series. The show is planned as a new story set after the original trilogy—not a retelling of Commander Shepard’s story. No release date, cast, or episode count has been confirmed in the sources available.
What BioWare has confirmed about the series
In its November 7, 2025 N7 Day update, BioWare executive producer Michael Gamble said the writers’ room was active and that the team had established how the series fits within Mass Effect canon and relates to the next game. That confirms development progress, but it does not identify specific story details or a release schedule.

Will the show follow Commander Shepard?
No. BioWare says the series will explore a new story in the franchise timeline after the original trilogy, rather than retell Shepard’s story. Gamble described it this way: “The show will explore a brand-new story within the universe’s timeline, and will be set after the original trilogy.”
BioWare has not said which Mass Effect 3 ending, if any, the series treats as canon. It has also not announced the show’s characters, plot, or episode count.
#1 Best Overall
- One person is all that stands between humanity and the greatest threat it’s ever faced.
- Relive the legend of Commander Shepard in the highly acclaimed Mass Effect trilogy with the Mass Effect Legendary Edition.
- Includes single-player base content and over 40 DLC from Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, including promo weapons, armors, and packs - remastered and optimized for 4k Ultra HD.
Who is writing the Mass Effect series?
Variety reported on November 7, 2024 that Daniel Casey was set to write and executive produce the project at Amazon MGM Studios. That staffing detail comes from Variety’s report; BioWare’s 2025 update confirmed collaboration with Amazon but did not repeat the credit.
When will the Mass Effect show come out, and where will it stream?
No release date or viewing availability is established by the official update. A PC Gamer overview published June 17, 2026 reported that no cast or release date had been announced as of publication. The reviewed sources also do not confirm where the finished series will stream, so Amazon’s involvement alone is not enough to establish a platform or subscription requirement.

What can you play while waiting?
Mass Effect Legendary Edition is an existing collection of the original trilogy, useful for revisiting the games that precede the show’s planned setting. It is not a television tie-in, and BioWare has not said that viewers need to play it to understand the series.
