What Amazon Luna is—and where it launched
Luna streams games from Amazon’s remote infrastructure. The game runs in the cloud; your device receives a live video feed and sends your inputs back over the internet. That means you do not need a gaming PC or console to run the streamed game locally, and you generally do not download the game itself. You still need a compatible device, a supported app or browser experience, an Amazon account and a stable connection. Performance depends on latency, Wi-Fi conditions, device support and regional service availability. Amazon’s explanation of Luna describes the service model.
Amazon announced the France, Italy and Spain launch for November 15, 2023, after earlier availability in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and Canada. Its pitch was access to streamed games without buying a console or waiting for large game downloads. The local services are at luna.amazon.fr, luna.amazon.it and luna.amazon.es. Availability of individual games and features can still vary by account, country and device.
What the 2023 launch included
At launch, Amazon presented Luna as a collection of access routes rather than a single all-inclusive library. Prime members could play Fortnite, Trackmania and a selected collection of additional games without a separate Luna subscription. Amazon also described linking eligible Ubisoft accounts to play certain PC Ubisoft games the player already owned. That account-linking arrangement is historical launch information, not a promise that those games or integrations remain available in 2026.

The launch announcement also offered Luna+, Ubisoft+ and Jackbox Games subscriptions, plus individual game purchases. All prices below are the amounts Amazon announced in November 2023, not verified current offers.

Amazon’s November 2023 launch announcement is the source for these historical offers and prices. A Prime-included selection never meant that every Luna game was included.

What changed by 2026
Amazon’s support notice says that, beginning April 10, 2026, Luna stopped offering game stores, individual game purchases and third-party subscriptions. That change makes many launch reports incomplete if they present Luna+ at €9.99, Ubisoft+ at €17.99, Jackbox at €4.99, or game purchases as ways to join the service today. Amazon’s support notice sets out the change.
Amazon’s later Luna redesign announcement describes a Prime game offering and a paid Luna Premium tier in at least some markets. It also said more than 50 games were available to Prime members in supported countries. That figure is Amazon’s announcement, not a guarantee of the current catalog in France, Italy or Spain; titles and local terms can change. The current local price and catalog were not established by the cited information, so check the relevant local Luna service and Amazon account before subscribing. Do not assume a game once tied to Ubisoft account linking or an individual purchase remains playable on Luna.

Which devices can run Luna?
At launch, Amazon listed Fire TV, Windows PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, iPhones, iPads, Android devices, Fire tablets in some local-market descriptions, and selected Samsung and LG smart TVs. “Selected” matters: support is model-dependent, and the brand name alone does not establish compatibility. Amazon’s launch announcement is historical; check the local Luna site for current device support before buying hardware.
- Fire TV: Amazon announced a Games destination for browsing games, pairing controllers and launching play. Fire TV is a compatible streaming platform, not a separate Luna subscription.
- Computers and Chromebooks: Windows, Mac and Chromebook support was listed at launch; the precise supported browser and requirements should be checked for the device in use.
- Phones and tablets: iPhone, iPad and Android devices were included in the launch device list. Whether a game can be played with touch controls or needs a controller depends on the title and device.
- Smart TVs: Samsung and LG support applies to selected models, not every television from those manufacturers.
For help choosing a device, consult the local service first rather than relying on an old compatibility list: France, Italy or Spain.

What you need before playing
- An Amazon account and access to Luna in a supported country.
- A supported screen or computer, plus the required browser or app experience.
- A stable internet connection with low enough latency for responsive play. No current minimum bandwidth figure is established here, so avoid treating an old number as a definitive requirement.
- A controller if the game or device requires one. A compatible Bluetooth or USB controller may work; Amazon has also described a Luna Phone Controller app for iOS and Android.
- An eligible access route for the game—such as the current Prime offering or another plan currently shown in your local Luna account.
Amazon priced its Luna Controller at €69.99 in France, Italy and Spain when the service launched in November 2023. Its Cloud Direct feature connects the controller over Wi-Fi to Luna’s servers, which Amazon designed to reduce latency and ease switching between compatible screens. That is a product design claim, not a guarantee of lower delay in every home. The dedicated controller is not necessarily required, and its current price, stock and local compatibility should be checked before purchase. - Prime member looking for casual games: It may be convenient if the current local Prime selection includes games you want. Check the catalog first; Prime does not make every Luna game free.
- Fire TV owner seeking TV play: Luna can provide a console-free route on a supported device, but confirm both Fire TV model compatibility and controller support.
- Family wanting party or local multiplayer: Check whether the specific games and multiplayer modes you want are currently offered. The launch-era Jackbox subscription is not evidence of current access.
- Competitive player: Cloud streaming adds network and input-path variables. For latency-sensitive play, local hardware is generally the safer choice if connection responsiveness is a priority.
- Player with a large PC library: Do not assume Luna streams games from Steam, Epic, GOG, Ubisoft or Xbox libraries. The launch-era Ubisoft integration was limited to supported titles, and Amazon later removed third-party subscriptions and individual purchases.
- Player with unreliable or congested internet: Expect image degradation, input delay or disconnections to be more likely. A local console or PC avoids relying on a continuous stream for gameplay.
Cloud gaming avoids running the streamed game on your own high-end hardware, but it does not remove access risk: catalogs and licensing can change, and a subscription library is not the same as owning a game.

Common problems and what to try
The game appears in an old article but not in Luna
Older coverage may list Luna+, Ubisoft+, Jackbox or individual purchases because those were part of the 2023 launch offer. Amazon’s April 10, 2026 change removed game stores, purchases and third-party subscriptions. Check the current local catalog and account rules rather than relying on a launch-era list.
A controller will not connect
- Confirm that the controller is charged.
- Check whether the device supports Bluetooth or USB input and whether the game accepts that controller.
- Install any software update prompted by the controller or device.
- Test another supported controller if one is available.
- Try Luna in another supported environment, such as a browser or Fire TV, to determine whether the issue is device-specific.
- Use the local Luna help information for model-specific pairing steps.
Image quality is poor or controls feel delayed
Wi-Fi interference, distance from the router, other network traffic, latency to the service region, an unsupported device or browser, and the controller’s wireless connection can all contribute. Where practical, try Ethernet or a modern 5 GHz or Wi-Fi 6 network, reduce simultaneous high-bandwidth use, test on another supported device, and compare controller connection methods. These steps can help isolate the cause; they cannot guarantee a particular streaming quality.
How Luna compares with other cloud-gaming services
Compare services by the games you can actually access, whether they stream games you already own or provide a catalog, supported devices, local availability and network performance—not headline subscription price alone. Regional availability and plan terms can differ, so check the service for your country.
