Short answer: Amazon’s widely shared Fallout 76 Prime Gaming giveaway is no longer active. The original promotion ended on May 15, 2024. It included Windows PC through the Microsoft Store and Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S—but not Steam or PlayStation. A later Amazon Luna promotion offered the Microsoft Store PC version in November 2025, but that claim window also ended in December 2025. There is no verified active Prime claim for Fallout 76 as of August 9, 2026.
If you found this offer through an old search result or social post, the dates explain why the claim button is missing. This guide explains exactly what the expired promotions included, how redemption worked, what happened to the game after Prime membership ended, and what to check if a previously claimed copy is not appearing in your library.

Was Fallout 76 free with Amazon Prime?
The original Amazon Prime Gaming giveaway was real, but it was a limited-time promotion. Prime members could claim Fallout 76 between April 2024 and May 15, 2024. The offer provided separate versions for Windows PC and Xbox consoles, according to contemporary coverage of the promotion.
Amazon later listed Fallout 76 as a downloadable PC game through the Prime benefit associated with Amazon Luna. That version began appearing on November 13, 2025 and was identified as PC via the Microsoft Games Store, not as an Xbox-console giveaway or a Luna cloud-streaming entitlement. Contemporary listings gave the later claim deadline as December 17, 2025. The live Luna claim page no longer provides a verifiable active offer, so it should not be treated as claimable now.

In other words, “Amazon Prime members get Fallout 76 for free” is an outdated headline unless it is clearly presented as an archive of the 2024 promotion.
What the 2024 offer actually included
| Version | Platform | Store or launcher | Included? |
|---|---|---|---|
| PC | Windows PC | Microsoft Store/Xbox PC ecosystem | Yes |
| Console | Xbox One | Xbox/Microsoft Store | Yes |
| Console | Xbox Series S|X | Xbox/Microsoft Store | Yes |
| PC | Windows PC | Steam | No |
| Console | PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 | PlayStation Store | No |
| Cloud | Amazon Luna | Luna cloud streaming | Not the same entitlement |
The phrase “PC and console” was therefore imprecise. “Console” meant Xbox, not both major console families. The PC entitlement was a Microsoft Store code, while the console entitlement was an Xbox code, as reported by Pure Xbox and TechRadar.
The PC copy was not a Steam copy
If you expected Fallout 76 to appear in your Steam library, that is the most important distinction. The Prime Gaming PC offer used the Microsoft Store/Xbox app ecosystem. A Microsoft Store code cannot be redeemed in Steam, and installing Steam will not make the Microsoft Store license appear there.
On Windows, the intended route was to redeem the code to a Microsoft account and install the game through the Microsoft Store or Xbox app. The later 2025 Luna-linked offer used the same general Microsoft PC destination.
How claiming worked when the offer was active
The following are historical redemption steps for the expired offers. They are not current instructions for claiming Fallout 76 from Prime.
Historical PC redemption process
- Sign in to the Prime Gaming site with the Amazon account that had an active Prime membership.
- Open the Fallout 76 (PC) offer.
- Select the claim or get-game button displayed on the offer page.
- Reveal or receive the Microsoft Store code.
- Sign in to the Microsoft account that should own the game. This step matters because the entitlement becomes associated with the account used for redemption.
- Redeem the code through Microsoft’s redemption page or the Microsoft Store. Microsoft’s current code-redemption guidance instructs users to sign in, enter the 25-character code, and complete the prompts.
- Install Fallout 76 through the Microsoft Store or Xbox app on Windows.
Historical Xbox redemption process
- Sign in to Prime Gaming using the eligible Prime account.
- Open the separate Fallout 76 (Xbox) listing.
- Claim the offer and reveal the Xbox code.
- Redeem the code on Microsoft’s website or use the code-redemption option in the Xbox Store.
- Open the Xbox library and install the game on Xbox One, Xbox Series S, or Xbox Series X.
The PC and Xbox listings were separate promotions. Contemporary instructions indicated that a member with access to both platforms could redeem both versions. That was a rule of the 2024 offer, not a guarantee that every future Prime or Luna game promotion will provide multiple platform entitlements.
Did you keep Fallout 76 after canceling Prime?
The 2024 promotion was presented as a redeemable game entitlement, not a timed trial. Once the relevant code was successfully redeemed to the intended Microsoft account, the game was intended to remain associated with that account rather than disappear when Prime membership ended. Amazon’s general Prime Gaming guidance says claimed games remain connected to a member’s collection, while Microsoft’s code system attaches redeemed codes to the Microsoft account used during redemption.
There are two important qualifications:
- Prime was required to claim the promotion during its claim window.
- Prime was not generally required to retain a properly redeemed Microsoft Store or Xbox game license.
- Xbox online play may require a separate subscription. Owning the game does not automatically provide console multiplayer access.
A failed claim, an unredeemed code, or a code redeemed to the wrong Microsoft account is different from a properly claimed copy. If you only saved the offer page or never completed Microsoft redemption, you should not assume that the game was added to your library.

Does Fallout 76 require another subscription on Xbox?
Yes, for online console multiplayer. Microsoft’s Xbox listing for Fallout 76 states that an online multiplayer subscription is required on console and is sold separately. The listing identifies qualifying plans such as Game Pass Core or Ultimate; Microsoft’s plan names and terms can change.
- Windows PC: You do not need an Xbox console multiplayer subscription, but you do need an internet connection and the relevant Microsoft/Bethesda account sign-ins.
- Xbox console: You need the game entitlement plus a qualifying Xbox online multiplayer subscription for online play.
- PlayStation: The Prime giveaway did not provide a PlayStation license. If you obtain the game separately, PlayStation’s normal online-multiplayer requirements apply.
This is the difference between a game being free to claim and all of its online services being free to use.
What changed when Prime Gaming moved toward Luna?
Readers searching for Prime Gaming games may now encounter Amazon Luna instead. Amazon’s gaming pages present Prime’s included gaming benefits through the broader Luna service, which combines cloud-playable games with a separate rotating collection of downloadable PC games.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsAmazon’s November 2025 announcement described a “monthly, rotating collection of free downloadable PC games” alongside Luna’s cloud library. That distinction matters for Fallout 76: the later listing identified the game as PC via the Microsoft Games Store. It did not mean Prime members could stream Fallout 76 through Luna as a cloud title.
The 2025 listing also restricted availability to regions where both Luna and the Microsoft Store supported the game. Amazon’s general gaming destination is games.amazon.com, but an old claim URL or search result is not proof that a promotion is still active. A current offer should visibly show a live claim option and current terms.
Why Fallout 76 may be missing from your Amazon or Luna page
If you cannot find the offer, one of these explanations is likely:
- The 2024 or 2025 promotion has expired.
- You are signed in to an Amazon account without Prime.
- The offer was not available in your country or region.
- You are looking at a Luna cloud-gaming page rather than a downloadable PC-game claim.
- You already claimed the game, so it is no longer presented as a new offer.
- The search result points to an old, cached Prime Gaming page.
The regional issue was explicit in Amazon’s 2025 listing: the PC offer was limited to markets where both Luna and the Microsoft Store supported Fallout 76. Do not assume that a code, claim page, or promotion available in another country will work on your account.

What to do if Microsoft says you already own the game
An “already owned” message is not necessarily an error. Microsoft may be detecting an earlier entitlement. Prime members also received the Windows Store version during Bethesda’s 2022 Fallout 25th-anniversary promotion, so an account could already have the PC game before the 2024 offer. Bethesda announced that earlier promotion on its official Fallout site.

Try these checks:
- Open your Microsoft order history and Microsoft Store library.
- Confirm that the Microsoft Store and Xbox app are signed in to the same Microsoft account used for redemption.
- Check the Xbox gamertag associated with that account.
- Remember that a Microsoft Store entitlement will not appear in Steam.
- Do not redeem a replacement code on a shared, work, child, or secondary account unless that is where you want the license to live.
- If a code was already redeemed, contact Microsoft or Amazon support with the claim record instead of repeatedly trying the same code.
Can you play the PC copy on PlayStation?
No. The Amazon promotion did not include a PlayStation entitlement. A Microsoft Store PC code cannot be converted into a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 license. PlayStation users must obtain the PlayStation version separately or wait for an official free-play promotion.
For context, a separate temporary free-play event in December 2025 allowed players on PlayStation 4/5 and Xbox consoles to try Fallout 76 for a limited period. It was a trial event, not a permanent Prime claim, and ended on December 23, 2025, according to TechRadar and GameSpot.
Does Fallout 76 progress transfer between PC and Xbox?
No—not between PC and Xbox consoles. Bethesda’s account-support documentation makes a narrower distinction:
- Characters, progress, and in-game items can be available between the Steam and Xbox app/Game Pass PC versions when they are connected to the same Bethesda.net account.
- PC and Xbox console versions do not share progress. Claiming both versions does not merge their characters or create a seamless PC-to-console save.
- Atoms and some account balances can have platform-specific restrictions, including between PC storefronts.
Before starting, link the correct Bethesda.net account and decide which platform will hold your main character. Bethesda documents the supported account and progression relationships in its Fallout 76 cross-progression support article.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If the code redeemed but the game will not launch
First verify that the game is installed from the correct storefront. A Microsoft Store license should be launched through the Microsoft Store/Xbox PC ecosystem, not Steam.
On Windows PC
- Check that the Microsoft Store and Xbox app use the Microsoft account that owns Fallout 76.
- Update Windows, the Microsoft Store, the Xbox app, and Gaming Services.
- Close and relaunch the Xbox app and Xbox Game Bar.
- Restart the computer.
- Check Xbox and Bethesda service status for an outage.
- Confirm that the PC has enough storage and uses a supported 64-bit Windows installation.
- If the installation remains broken, reinstall through the Xbox app or Microsoft Store.
On Xbox
- Confirm that the redeemed code belongs to the signed-in Microsoft account.
- Look for the game in the Xbox library rather than searching Steam or another store.
- Check that the console is connected to the internet and that Xbox services are available.
- Confirm that the account has the required online multiplayer subscription for console play.
- Restart the console and retry the installation.
Bethesda’s installation troubleshooting guide also recommends restarting the device, closing and relaunching the Xbox app or Game Bar, checking server status, and reinstalling when necessary.
What are the legitimate ways to check for a new offer?
Because the old articles remain indexed, use the source of the offer rather than its headline to verify availability:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Check the current Amazon Luna gaming or claims pages while signed in to the correct Prime account.
- Read the platform line carefully. “PC via Microsoft Games Store,” “Xbox,” “Steam,” and “Luna cloud” are different entitlements.
- Look for a current claim button, an end date, and regional terms.
- Check the current Xbox/Microsoft Store listing and any current Game Pass inclusion separately. Game Pass access is a subscription benefit, not the same as owning a Prime-redeemed license.
- Watch Bethesda’s official announcements for future free-play weekends or promotions.
Do not use an old “free right now” search snippet as evidence that the game can still be claimed. The 2024 giveaway ended May 15, 2024, and the later PC-only Luna offer is also over.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I still claim the 2024 Prime Gaming Fallout 76 code?
No. The original Prime Gaming claim window ended on May 15, 2024. The later Amazon Luna PC promotion also ended in December 2025, and there is no verified active Prime claim as of August 9, 2026.
Did Amazon Prime include Fallout 76 on PlayStation?
No. The original offer covered Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X, plus Windows PC through the Microsoft Store. It did not provide a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 license.
Was the free PC version a Steam code?
No. It was a Microsoft Store/Xbox PC entitlement. The code cannot be redeemed in Steam.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Could Prime members claim both the PC and Xbox versions?
Contemporary instructions for the 2024 promotion said the PC and Xbox offers were separate and could both be redeemed by members with access to both platforms. This was specific to that promotion.
Do I keep Fallout 76 after canceling Prime?
A properly redeemed 2024 Microsoft Store or Xbox entitlement was intended to remain associated with the Microsoft account after Prime ended. Prime was needed to claim it, but not generally to retain the redeemed license. Xbox console online multiplayer can still require a qualifying subscription.
Does Fallout 76 progress transfer from Xbox to PC?
No. Bethesda says PC and Xbox console versions do not share characters or progress. Steam and the Xbox app/Game Pass PC version can share progress in the supported circumstances when connected to the same Bethesda.net account.
Why does Microsoft say I already own Fallout 76?
You may have claimed an earlier promotion, such as the 2022 Fallout 25th-anniversary giveaway, or redeemed the code to another Microsoft account. Check order history, the Microsoft Store library, and the account’s Xbox gamertag.
Can I use a Fallout 76 code from another country?
Do not assume so. Amazon’s later PC offer was region-limited, and Microsoft codes can have country or region restrictions. Redeem only after checking the code’s terms and the region of the Microsoft account.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The Amazon Prime Fallout 76 giveaway was genuine but expired. The 2024 offer covered Microsoft Store PC and Xbox One/Series—not Steam or PlayStation—and a redeemed copy was intended to remain on the Microsoft account after Prime ended. The later 2025 Luna offer was PC-only and is no longer current. If you want to play today, verify the live Amazon Luna, Xbox, Microsoft Store, or official Bethesda pages rather than relying on an old “free with Prime” headline.
