This was not a general-purpose Adrenalin feature release and it is not AMD’s current Radeon driver as of August 12, 2026. The package matters primarily to graphics-engine developers and applications that explicitly integrate the DGF ray-tracing path. Installing it alone does not make ordinary Vulkan games use the extension or guarantee higher frame rates.

The dedicated release notes highlight one feature: VK_AMDX_dense_geometry_format. The extension connects AMD’s Dense Geometry Format with Vulkan ray-tracing acceleration-structure construction.
What VK_AMDX_dense_geometry_format does
Ray-tracing applications construct acceleration structures so the GPU can efficiently locate geometry during ray traversal. The bottom-level acceleration structure, or BLAS, represents a particular set of geometric primitives, such as the triangles that make up a mesh.
Normally, compressed geometry may need to be decoded or transformed before it can be used to build the BLAS. AMD’s DGF path is intended to let an application provide pre-compressed DGF triangle data directly to the acceleration-structure build. That can remove a separate decoding step and reduce the amount of intermediate data the application and driver need to handle.
AMD describes two potential benefits on hardware with native DGF support:
- faster BLAS construction; and
- a smaller BLAS memory footprint.
Those are implementation goals and vendor-described benefits, not a universal performance guarantee. The release does not promise a particular frame-rate improvement, and this package should not be presented as a conventional gaming-performance driver. Results depend on the GPU, the application’s geometry pipeline, the ray-tracing workload, and whether the engine actually uses the extension.
Installing the driver is not enough
VK_AMDX_dense_geometry_format is an API capability for software that has been written to use it. A Vulkan engine must be able to:
- produce or obtain geometry in AMD’s Dense Geometry Format;
- detect and enable the Vulkan extension;
- populate the extension’s compressed-triangle-data structures; and
- attach those structures to the relevant Vulkan acceleration-structure geometry through the Vulkan
pNextchain when building the BLAS.
The Vulkan extension documentation describes the feature as provisional. Developers evaluating it should consult the Vulkan proposal and registry material alongside AMD’s DGF SDK and sample application. The SDK and sample are more relevant to an engine programmer than to someone who simply wants to play a Vulkan game.

- Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal heat transfer, lowering GPU temperatures for enhanced performance and reliability
- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
- Dual-ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as standard conventional sleeve bearings designs
- 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
For players, the practical consequence is straightforward: a supported Radeon GPU and this driver do not automatically change how every Vulkan game builds its ray-tracing data. A game or engine developer must add support first, and the application must choose to use the path.
Compatible Radeon graphics cards
AMD’s release notes list the following desktop Radeon families for the package:
- Radeon RX 9070 Series;
- Radeon RX 7900 Series;
- Radeon RX 7800 Series;
- Radeon RX 7700 Series;
- Radeon RX 7650 Series; and
- Radeon RX 7600 Series.
The listed mobile reference graphics include:
- Radeon RX 7900M Series;
- Radeon RX 7800M Series; and
- Radeon RX 7600M Series.
Notebook and all-in-one owners should be more cautious than desktop users. AMD notes that system-specific features and validation can differ, and recommends checking the computer manufacturer’s driver when necessary. An OEM driver may be preferable if the notebook or all-in-one depends on manufacturer-specific power, display, switching-graphics, or thermal features.
AMD explicitly says that this package does not include support for handheld gaming devices. The desktop and mobile Radeon lists should therefore not be interpreted as confirmation that a particular gaming handheld can install or use this driver.
Windows requirements and certification status
The release notes specify the following operating-system baselines:
| Operating system | Minimum version listed by AMD |
|---|---|
| Windows 11 | Version 21H2 and later |
| Windows 10 64-bit | Version 1809 and later |
AMD also qualifies the operating-system support by Radeon product, so the table is not a substitute for checking the exact product page and installation package for a specific system.

For most Radeon players in 2026, no. This package is an older, specialized release, and later driver branches superseded it. It may still be of historical or development interest, but a current supported Radeon driver is the more appropriate starting point for a normal gaming PC.
The package is most relevant when all of the following are true:
- you are developing or testing a Vulkan ray-tracing engine;
- your target hardware is in AMD’s listed compatibility families;
- your software pipeline produces or consumes DGF data; and
- you specifically need to evaluate the provisional AMD Vulkan extension.
If you are troubleshooting a game, installing this preview-oriented package simply because it mentions expanded Vulkan support is unlikely to help unless the game developer has documented support for VK_AMDX_dense_geometry_format. Use the current driver recommended for your Radeon model first, and preserve a way to roll back if you are testing an older development environment.
Installation and rollback considerations
AMD’s dedicated notes recommend using AMD Cleanup Utility before installation if a preview driver had previously been installed. A clean removal can help avoid conflicts when moving between preview and regular driver branches, although users should avoid unnecessary cleanup when a normal in-place update is working correctly.

A sensible test procedure is:
- Confirm the exact Radeon model and whether it is a desktop, notebook, all-in-one, or handheld system.
- Check whether the application or engine explicitly supports the DGF extension.
- Back up important work and record the currently installed driver version.
- Prefer the system manufacturer’s package on notebooks and all-in-ones when AMD’s generic package could remove device-specific functionality.
- If testing the preview package after another preview installation, follow AMD’s Cleanup Utility guidance.
- Verify the driver and Vulkan device-extension exposure in the development application’s diagnostics rather than assuming that a successful installer run means the extension is active.
- Reinstall the current or previously working driver if the test introduces instability or compatibility problems.
What happened after 25.10.25.02?
The version naming is easy to misread. 25.10.25.02 was the early expanded-extension package, documented in AMD’s Vulkan-support history on August 5, 2025. AMD’s history later listed VK_AMDX_dense_geometry_format in the regular Adrenalin 25.10.2 release dated October 29, 2025.
That means 25.10.25.02 should be described as an early or preview-oriented expanded-Vulkan package, not as a separate feature that remained exclusive to that installer. AMD’s live Vulkan-support history subsequently recorded newer driver releases, including 25.11.1, 25.30.17.02, 26.2.1, 26.3.1, 26.6.1, and a July 31, 2026 expanded-extension package numbered 26.10.27.01.

As of August 12, 2026, readers looking for a presently supported driver should use AMD’s current Radeon software and driver pages and select the package for their exact GPU and operating system. The old 25.10.25.02 installer should not be presented as the recommended current download.
Bottom line for gamers and developers
Adrenalin 25.10.25.02 added an important low-level Vulkan path for AMD’s Dense Geometry Format. By allowing compatible applications to feed compressed DGF geometry directly into ray-tracing acceleration-structure construction, it may reduce BLAS build overhead and memory use on hardware with native support.
But this is primarily an engine and driver-interface development story, not a plug-and-play gaming feature. It requires application-side Vulkan integration, offers no guaranteed FPS increase, excludes handheld gaming devices according to AMD’s notes, and has been superseded by later driver releases. Developers should evaluate it with AMD’s DGF tools and Vulkan documentation; ordinary players should use a current driver unless they have a specific, documented reason to test this older package.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will every Vulkan game benefit from Adrenalin 25.10.25.02?
No. Installing the driver exposes the capability, but a Vulkan engine must explicitly integrate VK_AMDX_dense_geometry_format and provide DGF geometry during ray-tracing acceleration-structure construction.
Does this driver support gaming handhelds and notebooks?
No. AMD’s release notes say the package does not include support for handheld gaming devices. Notebook and all-in-one users should also check their manufacturer’s driver because system-specific validation can differ.
Is AMD Adrenalin 25.10.25.02 still the latest driver?
AMD’s history later listed the extension in the regular Adrenalin 25.10.2 release on October 29, 2025. Later driver branches followed, so 25.10.25.02 is not the current recommended driver as of August 12, 2026.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe Bottom Line
Adrenalin 25.10.25.02 was an August 5, 2025 expanded-Vulkan package, not a current 2026 gaming driver. Its key addition, VK_AMDX_dense_geometry_format, can help compatible ray-tracing engines build BLAS data from compressed DGF geometry, but only after application-side integration. It does not automatically improve every Vulkan game, guarantee higher FPS, or support gaming handhelds.
