The Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB is usually the better-value gaming GPU, while the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is the stronger choice for ray tracing, DLSS 4, CUDA, and Nvidia’s software ecosystem. The comparison becomes much less favorable to Nvidia when its 16GB card costs substantially more than AMD’s. For most conventional 1080p and 1440p gaming, start with the 16GB RX 9060 XT; choose the RTX 5060 Ti when its specific features justify the premium.

There are four different cards in this comparison

Both GPU families come in 8GB and 16GB versions. That capacity difference is important enough that “RX 9060 XT versus RTX 5060 Ti” is not a complete comparison by itself.

AMD lists a 150W board-power figure for the 8GB RX 9060 XT, while independent coverage reports 160W for the 16GB version. Nvidia lists 180W for the RTX 5060 Ti. Partner cards can differ, so confirm the requirements for the exact model you plan to buy. AMD and Nvidia compute-unit counts are based on different architectures and should not be compared as equivalent performance measurements.

Gaming performance: similar class, different strengths

Rasterized gaming

In conventional rendering without ray tracing, independent testing places the RX 9060 XT 16GB in the same general performance class as the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB. TechSpot found AMD’s card to be a particularly strong value competitor, helped by its lower launch price. The exact winner varies with the game, resolution, graphics preset, driver version, and whether the test uses the 8GB or 16GB model.

AMD claimed that the RX 9060 XT 16GB was up to 6% faster than the RTX 5060 Ti 8GB in its selected 1440p Ultra tests. That is an AMD-provided result, not a universal independent benchmark conclusion. Independent reviews should carry more weight when deciding between specific cards.

At 1080p, either GPU is appropriate for high-refresh gaming in many titles. At 1440p, the 16GB versions make more sense, particularly with Ultra textures, large open-world games, mods, or a plan to keep the card for several years.

Ray tracing

Nvidia generally leads in ray-traced performance in many tested games. That advantage can become more visible as RT effects, reflections, and global illumination settings become heavier. PC Gamer’s testing also found the RTX 5060 Ti 8GB especially competitive against the RX 9060 XT 8GB at Ultra ray-tracing settings.

  • 16GB GDDR6 Memory on 128‑Bit Bus: Equipped with 16GB of high‑speed GDDR6 memory running at 20 Gbps, offering ample capacity and bandwidth for modern game textures and creative applications.

That does not make the RTX 5060 Ti faster in every game or every rendering mode. A benchmark should always state whether it measures native rendering, DLSS or FSR upscaling, ray tracing, frame generation, average FPS, or 1% lows. A displayed FPS figure produced with generated frames is not directly comparable with a native-rendered FPS figure.

VRAM, stutter, and 1% lows

Eight gigabytes can still be adequate for 1080p esports games, older releases, and sensible settings. It is not automatically unusable. However, demanding games can force an 8GB card to reduce texture quality or other settings, and exceeding the available memory budget can hurt minimum frame rates and cause stutter or texture-management problems.

Sixteen gigabytes provides more headroom for 1440p, high-resolution textures, RT-heavy presets, mods, and future releases. It does not guarantee a particular lifespan or frame rate, but it is the safer capacity for a new midrange card. TechSpot specifically cautioned buyers not to confuse the 8GB and 16GB RX 9060 XT versions when shopping.

Why the RX 9060 XT 16GB is the value winner

At launch, the RX 9060 XT 16GB cost $349—$80 less than the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and even $30 less than Nvidia’s 8GB model. The $80 gap represented about 19% of the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB’s launch price, while AMD offered double the VRAM compared with Nvidia’s cheaper capacity option.

That combination—competitive rasterized performance, 16GB of memory, and a lower starting price—is the core of AMD’s value argument. If your library is mostly rasterized games and you care about performance per dollar, the RX 9060 XT 16GB is the default recommendation.

Why the RTX 5060 Ti can still be worth more

The RTX 5060 Ti’s premium is easier to justify when you will actually use Nvidia’s advantages:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • DLSS 4: Nvidia’s feature set includes Super Resolution, Ray Reconstruction, Frame Generation, and Multi Frame Generation in supported games.
  • Ray tracing: The RTX 5060 Ti is often the better fit for players who enable demanding RT effects regularly.
  • Reflex: Nvidia’s latency-reduction technology can matter in supported competitive games.
  • CUDA and creator software: Applications that specifically depend on CUDA or Nvidia acceleration can make the RTX card the practical choice.
  • Video tools: Nvidia’s encoding and decoding support may be important for streaming, recording, and particular creative workflows.

Frame generation deserves a qualification: it creates additional displayed frames rather than replacing the need for adequate base rendering performance. It can improve perceived smoothness, but latency and visual artifacts can vary by game and implementation.

Which version should you buy?

Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB

Buy this version if you want the strongest conventional gaming value, play at 1080p Ultra or 1440p High/Ultra, or want more memory headroom without moving to a higher GPU tier. It is the best starting point for most value-focused PC gamers.

GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB

Choose it if ray tracing, DLSS 4, Multi Frame Generation, CUDA, Nvidia’s creator ecosystem, or Nvidia-specific encoding features are central to your decision. It is also more compelling when the price difference from the RX 9060 XT 16GB is small.

Radeon RX 9060 XT 8GB

Consider it for a budget 1080p system focused on esports, older games, or lower texture settings—but only after checking how much more the 16GB model costs. A modest price difference makes the larger-memory version the better purchase.

GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 8GB

This is the least attractive default option. It can make sense for a substantial discount, a predominantly 1080p library, or a buyer who specifically wants Nvidia features at the lowest entry price. Do not buy it when it approaches the price of a 16GB alternative.

Use the real price, not just MSRP

Launch prices explain why AMD received favorable value coverage, but they are not necessarily today’s prices. A PC Gamer price-tracking snapshot observed on August 14, 2026 showed an RX 9060 XT 8GB listing around $369.99 and RTX 5060 Ti 16GB listings ranging from approximately $579.99 to $799.99. Those are dated retail observations, not stable market averages, so check current listings before buying.

As a practical editorial rule:

  • Less than $50 apart: The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB can be worth considering for DLSS, ray tracing, and Nvidia software.
  • $50 to $100 apart: Choose according to your game library and feature priorities.
  • More than $100 apart: The RX 9060 XT 16GB is usually the better gaming-value purchase unless Nvidia-specific features are essential.
  • Same price: Prefer Nvidia for RT- and DLSS-heavy gaming; prefer AMD for rasterized gaming, comparing equal-capacity cards.

These thresholds are buying guidance, not benchmark measurements. Before ordering a board-partner card, verify its exact VRAM capacity, price, dimensions, slot thickness, power connector, warranty, return policy, and seller reputation. Factory-overclocked models can differ in clock speeds, cooling, noise, power limits, and physical size.

RX 9060 XT versus RTX 5060 Ti: the verdict

For most buyers playing standard rasterized games, the RX 9060 XT 16GB is the better value. It offers competitive performance in its class and launched well below the equivalent RTX 5060 Ti, with more memory than Nvidia’s cheaper 8GB version.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is the better feature-driven choice. Pay extra for it when ray tracing, DLSS 4, frame generation, Reflex, CUDA, or Nvidia’s creator and video ecosystem will materially improve how you use your PC. Otherwise, a large price premium is difficult to justify for conventional gaming alone.

Whichever brand you choose, treat both 8GB models as budget compromises rather than automatic recommendations. The cleanest comparison is 16GB against 16GB—and at that capacity, the deciding factor is usually the real price gap and whether you value AMD’s rasterized value or Nvidia’s feature advantage.
