You’ll recruit Marius, follow the clues, then find the Watcher and report back to Ambassador Falseen Hylgard. The first two objectives can be completed in either order without changing the outcome.
How to start An Untimely End
Travel to the Aedyran Embassy in Paradis and speak with Ambassador Falseen Hylgard. Your first objectives are to find Marius and investigate the attack site; the walkthrough route below handles Marius first, but the order does not affect the outcome. Game8’s walkthrough covers the quest, and IGN Guides’ video walkthrough shows the same major progression beats.

How to investigate the assassination attempt
Recruit Marius at the Grinning Balarok
Go to the Grinning Balarok in the Underbelly and speak with Marius. He joins you as a companion.
Inspect the Main Gate and Embassy balcony
- Return to the Main Gate, where you were shot. Use Marius’s Hunter’s Sense to investigate the blood, or wait for Kai to examine it.
- Climb the scaffolding behind the Embassy to reach the balcony.
- Inspect the poison flask there.
Confront Wetenu at the apothecary
Go to the Apothecary’s Shop in the Pearl District and speak with the apothecarist, Wetenu. The encounter leads to combat with Wetenu and his allies.

Where to find the cistern key
Search Claviger’s Estate in northern Paradis. Fight the bandits, then use the exterior ladder to reach the upper area. Inspect Claviger’s Journal, Secret Page; the walkthrough says this provides the Cistern Key. An attic chest is also reported to contain a White Key Cameo, but it is not needed for the route described here.
How to reach Ygwulf in the cistern
- Travel to the Temple of Ondra in the Street of the Gods district and enter the cistern.
- Progress through the cistern and use the lever to disable the blades.
- Defeat the hostile rebels and climb the scaffolding to reach Ygwulf.
Should you kill or spare Ygwulf?
Attacking Ygwulf starts a boss fight. Choosing a non-combat resolution spares him. The immediate rewards reported by the walkthrough differ, while guides describe the longer-term consequences inconsistently.

| Choice | Immediate result and reported reward | Later outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Spare Ygwulf | Avoid the boss fight. Game8 reports 625 Coins, an Adra, and 355 XP. | Accounts describe different possible resolutions, including surrendering to authorities or leaving Paradis with his people. Guides say the choice affects a later epilogue, but the exact result is not consistently described. |
| Attack Ygwulf | Starts a boss fight. Game8 reports 391 XP and Blackwing Armor for this route. | The choice is reported to affect a later epilogue; the precise consequences are not established consistently across the guides. |
The reward figures above are reported by Game8’s walkthrough, not independently verified. Game8’s choice guide says the decision affects an epilogue screen. A later Ludo Guide account describes effects on final cutscenes and the rebels’ future, as well as a choice involving the Steel Garrote. Since guides describe the branches differently, do not treat their option names or stated outcomes as interchangeable. Choose based on whether you want the fight and your preferred immediate reward; the sources do not establish a guaranteed exact late-game outcome.
Where to find the Watcher
Leave Paradis through the eastern gate and follow the path to Runyd’s House, near the Shrine to Woedica. At the broken bridge, freezing the water below creates a crossing.
