Short answer: Analogue announced on March 2, 2026, that Pocket preorders would reopen March 4 at 8 a.m. Pacific/11 a.m. Eastern, with shipments expected in June. The price rose from $219.99 to $239.99, which Analogue attributed to recent tariff announcements. As of August 18, 2026, Analogue lists the standard Pocket as available now and shipping within 24–48 hours. The $99.99 Dock remains listed as out of stock.
What the March 2026 announcement actually promised
The headline’s “back in stock this week” referred to a preorder window, not guaranteed same-day delivery. Analogue’s March 2 announcement scheduled Pocket preorders for March 4, 2026, at 8 a.m. Pacific (11 a.m. Eastern), with units expected to ship in June 2026. The announcement covered the Analogue Pocket and Dock, pricing the Pocket at $239.99 and the Dock at $99.99.
That distinction matters: ordering during the March event meant reserving a unit for the later shipment period rather than necessarily receiving one immediately.
Engadget reported the preorder timing and June shipment estimate, while Time Extension reported the new prices and tariff explanation.

How much did the Analogue Pocket price increase?
| Reference point | Price | Change |
|---|---|---|
| Original announced price | $199.99 | Baseline |
| After the 2021 component-cost increase | $219.99 | +$20 from the original |
| March 2026 price | $239.99 | +$20 from the previous price |
The latest increase is $20, or about 9.1% compared with $219.99. Relative to the original announced price, the current $239.99 price is $40 higher—approximately 20%. Analogue announced the earlier move to $219 in December 2021, citing industry-wide component price increases (Analogue announcements).
What Analogue said about tariffs
Analogue attributed the March 2026 increase to recent tariff announcements. Reporting described the Pocket as assembled in China and connected the change with higher manufacturing and import costs. However, Analogue did not publish a detailed public cost breakdown in the cited materials.
The defensible conclusion is therefore limited: tariffs were Analogue’s stated rationale for raising the price. There is no independently audited calculation showing that tariffs added exactly $20 to every unit.
Current availability as of August 18, 2026
Analogue’s official Pocket page now lists the standard system at $239.99, marked Available Now and described as shipping within 24–48 hours. The official store shows both black and white standard models at that price (Analogue store; white model listing).

This is a different situation from the March announcement: the preorder’s June shipping estimate has passed, and the standard Pocket is currently presented as immediate inventory. Stock and fulfillment can change, so the 24–48-hour statement should be treated as the store’s current claim rather than a permanent guarantee.
What is still unavailable or costs extra?
A Pocket restock does not mean every accessory is available. The official store currently lists these prices and statuses:
| Item | Listed price | Availability or purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Analogue Pocket | $239.99 | Available now; 24–48-hour shipping claim |
| Analogue Dock | $99.99 | Out of stock |
| Pocket Adapter Set | $99.99 | Supports additional cartridge platforms |
| Game Gear Cartridge Adapter | $29.99 | Separate adapter |
| Pocket-to-Pocket Link Cable | $15.99 | Link-play accessory |
| Pocket Hard Case | $29.99 | Protective accessory |
| Tempered Glass Screen Protector | $15.99 | Screen accessory |
| Fast-charging USB-C power supply | $19.99 | Out of stock |
Analogue’s support documentation says out-of-stock products may return, but does not promise a specific restock date (limited-edition FAQ). Do not assume a newly purchased Pocket can be paired with a Dock immediately.
What you get for $239.99
Native cartridge support
The Pocket is a cartridge-based FPGA handheld. Analogue says it supports original Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance cartridges, with compatibility covering more than 2,780 cartridges as a manufacturer specification rather than an independent exhaustive audit. Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket Color and Atari Lynx cartridges require separately sold adapters.

FPGA hardware rather than a conventional software-emulation handheld
Analogue designed the Pocket around FPGA hardware and says it is not designed using software emulation. In practical terms, the system is intended to reproduce console hardware behavior while accepting original cartridges. FPGA branding alone does not guarantee perfect compatibility with every game or accessory, so the relevant benefit is the combination of cartridge support, hardware-based design and the Pocket’s additional openFPGA functionality.
Screen, battery and included hardware
Analogue estimates roughly six hours of battery life under its stated default-brightness conditions. The standard package includes the Pocket and a USB-C cable. The price does not include games, the Dock, adapters, a case or a screen protector. Package contents and power-accessory inclusion can vary by market listing, so check the exact store description before ordering.
The real cost of building a setup
| Configuration | Calculation | Total before tax and shipping |
|---|---|---|
| Pocket only | $239.99 | $239.99 |
| Pocket plus Dock | $239.99 + $99.99 | $339.98 |
| Pocket, Dock and Adapter Set | $239.99 + $99.99 + $99.99 | $439.97 |
The latter two totals are theoretical at the listed prices because the Dock is currently out of stock. Original cartridges are also extra, and their prices vary too widely by title, condition, region and authenticity to reduce to one responsible estimate. International buyers should additionally account for taxes, duties, shipping and local import rules; $239.99 is the listed U.S. price, not a universal delivered cost.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who should buy the Pocket now?
Buy it if you already own cartridges
- You have a Game Boy, Game Boy Color or Game Boy Advance library.
- You want a larger modern display and contemporary controls without modifying an original handheld.
- You value FPGA-based hardware and openFPGA experimentation.
- You can treat the Dock and other accessories as optional purchases rather than guaranteed parts of the initial setup.
Wait if your plan depends on a Dock or a lower price
- You primarily want a living-room Pocket-plus-Dock system.
- You are hoping tariff-related cost pressure will ease and the price will fall.
- You do not own cartridges and would need to buy a library as well as the hardware.
- You are willing to monitor Analogue’s stock notifications instead of paying reseller premiums. Analogue says notifications are the preferred way to hear about restocks and that non-limited products are intended to be produced again, but it gives no fixed schedule.
Skip it if you want a cheap digital library or modern smart features
The Pocket is not a general Android, PC or streaming handheld, and Analogue’s official page says it does not play copyrighted ROM files directly. Buyers seeking inexpensive downloadable libraries, broad modern emulation or an all-in-one package under $250 are looking at the wrong category of device.

Alternatives that fit different priorities
ModRetro Chromatic
ModRetro lists Chromatic bundles from $199.99 and describes compatibility with original Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridges (Chromatic Tetris bundle). It is a plausible choice for a focused Game Boy-era collection, a lower starting price and a premium cartridge-console design. It is not a direct substitute for the Pocket’s Game Boy Advance support or broader adapter ecosystem. ModRetro’s comparison material is vendor marketing, so treat its superiority claims as product-positioning rather than independent testing.
Playdate
Playdate is listed at $229 and includes Season One’s 24 games (Playdate shop). Its crank controller, monochrome display and original indie catalog make it an appealing new platform, but it does not play Game Boy cartridges and is not a replacement for the Pocket.
Lower-cost emulation handhelds
Cheaper emulation devices may be preferable when price and downloadable libraries matter more than original cartridges, FPGA hardware or Analogue’s accessory ecosystem. Models and prices change rapidly, so no single budget recommendation is reliable without a current product check.
Verdict
At $239.99, the Analogue Pocket remains unusually capable for people who already own Game Boy-family cartridges and specifically want a premium FPGA handheld. The March story should be read as a preorder announcement with June delivery, not same-day restock news. Today’s official listing indicates the standard Pocket can ship within 24–48 hours, but the Dock is still unavailable, and a complete cartridge-and-TV setup costs substantially more than the headline price.
