Answers and groups
| Color | Category | Words |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow | Dog commands | COME, DOWN, HEEL, STAY |
| Green | Deserved | DUE, FAIR, JUST, RIGHT |
| Blue | Situated | LEFT, PLACED, PUT, SET |
| Purple | Best Animated Feature Oscar winners | BRAVE, FLOW, FROZEN, UP |
Why this board is tricky
FROZEN, SET and PLACED create a false cluster
FROZEN can suggest something fixed or set in place, and SET and PLACED strengthen that misleading reading. In the final grouping, FROZEN is a film title, while SET and PLACED belong with words meaning situated.
HEEL has a tempting non-command meaning
HEEL may first bring to mind a shoe or the back of a foot. Here it is the dog-training command, alongside COME, DOWN and STAY.
The directions decoy
UP, DOWN, LEFT and RIGHT look like a natural directions group. Only LEFT belongs together with PLACED, PUT and SET; UP is an Oscar-winning film title and DOWN is a dog command.
FLOW is the least familiar title
FLOW is the hardest film entry to recognize in the purple group, joining BRAVE, FROZEN and UP as Best Animated Feature winners.

How to use the answer without spoiling future boards
- Start with the yellow hint and scan for a phrase or command that naturally fits all four words.
- If one word seems to fit two groups, hold it back and test the remaining words rather than committing immediately.
- Use the green and blue clues to separate ordinary meanings such as “deserved” and “put in position” from title or command meanings.
- Leave the purple group for last if film titles are less familiar, then verify that every word is used exactly once.
How Connections works
NYT Connections presents 16 words that must be sorted into four groups of four. The groups are color-coded from easier yellow to harder purple, and players have four mistakes available before the game ends. The puzzle is playable on the NYT Games website on desktop or mobile.
