The maintainer of the Analogue Pocket’s SNES core closed an unsolicited pull request proposing experimental MSU-1 support, saying the change was too large and difficult to review. In a comment on GitHub pull request #123, maintainer agg23 characterized it as a nearly 50,000-line, completely LLM-built diff with substantial unrelated changes, and concluded: “It has no place in my world.” The pull request is closed; its description calls it a draft contribution, not a release.
What did the pull request propose?
On October 5, 2026, contributor nasonliu opened pull request #123 in the openfpga-SNES repository, titled “Experimental MSU-1 streaming and standard-memory profiles.” Its description says the draft would add experimental MSU-1 streaming from SD storage to the SNES core used on Analogue Pocket. The proposal is not a released feature: GitHub marks the pull request closed, and the description labels it a draft source contribution.
MSU-1 is an enhancement standard used in emulation and ROM-hack projects, not a chip that shipped inside the original Super Nintendo. GamesRadar’s October 6, 2026 report describes the proposal’s goal as enabling CD-quality audio and similar enhancements for hacked SNES games.
Why did the maintainer object?
In the pull request discussion, repository owner and maintainer agg23 objected to the size, scope and unsolicited nature of the submission, as well as his assessment that it was entirely LLM-built. He described it as a “nearly 50k line diff” and said it included “SO MUCH unrelated garbage.” Those are the maintainer’s characterizations; the available record does not independently audit the line count or establish authorship.

His criticism also focused on review effort and the changes’ apparent relationship to existing code. agg23 wrote that the submission touched “basically all of the upstream HDL,” which he said already had MSU-1 support, and questioned what the proposed changes were doing. The dispute, as documented, is therefore not simply a rejection of the feature idea: it is a maintainer’s account of an unsolicited implementation whose breadth and organization made it unsuitable for review.
“This kind of behavior is not acceptable. You are infringing on the time and brainpower of people by pushing ‘your’ content that little/no of your brainpower went into; completely unrequested.”

— agg23, maintainer comment on pull request #123, October 5, 2026
He also acknowledged the idea could be interesting, writing, “If it works, that’s pretty cool,” before ending his response: “It has no place in my world.” The exchange records one maintainer’s response to this submission, not a formal project-wide policy on AI-assisted coding.

Was the feature merged or verified?
No. The pull request is marked closed, and the contributor described it as a draft rather than a release. Its description also includes limited hardware feedback and areas explicitly left unaccepted. Those are contributor-reported notes, not independent certification, proof of general compatibility, or evidence that the feature reached users.
The record supports a distinction between a potentially appealing feature and a reviewable contribution. The proposal’s stated functionality does not by itself establish that the submitted implementation worked reliably, while the maintainer’s comments explain why he objected to reviewing this particular diff. The available sources do not establish a universal rejection of AI-assisted contributions or a blanket policy for the project.
