Its reported 3DS-inspired design and Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 make it worth watching, but no confirmed price, launch date, or independent testing is established. If you need a handheld now, compare devices with an actual listing; if you can wait, treat the RG DDS’s reported specifications as provisional.
What is the Anbernic RG DDS?
GamesRadar reported on October 9, 2026, that Anbernic had shown the RG DDS in a teaser video. The report describes a New Nintendo 3DS-like clamshell with a 4.7-inch, 720 × 1200 upper display and a 4-inch, 960 × 720 lower display. It also reports a Qualcomm Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 chipset, integrated stylus, two full-size thumbsticks, and buttons for emulation and system functions. These are teaser details, not independently verified final specifications or performance results. GamesRadar’s RG DDS report

How does it compare with the Anbernic RG DS?
The RG DS is the more concrete reference point: Anbernic lists its specifications on an official product page. The RG DDS appears to offer higher reported screen resolutions and a different chip, but its details remain based on teaser reporting. The RG DS’s listed battery runtime is a manufacturer claim, not independently measured endurance.

How does the RG DDS compare with the Retroid Pocket Duo Lite?
The Retroid Pocket Duo Lite is another prospective dual-screen option, not a confirmed immediately available alternative in the cited coverage. GamesRadar reported a $149 announced price and a Qualcomm QCS6125 chipset, with 5.5-inch and 4.5-inch IPS displays. It also described a promotional demonstration of Mario Kart 7 running at 2× resolution. That demo is not independent testing, and the report said no release date had been announced. The $149 figure is an announced price, not a verified current checkout price. GamesRadar’s Retroid Pocket Duo Lite report

On the evidence available, the RG DDS has more compelling reported screen resolutions and a newer-sounding chip designation, while Retroid has an announced price and a reported promotional game demo. Neither point establishes real-world speed, emulator compatibility, or which device will be the better buy. The RG DDS also lacks a confirmed price and launch date in the cited coverage.
Where do the AYN Thor, OneXSugar, and AYANEO Flip 1S DS fit?
OneXSugar and AYN Thor are named alongside the RG DS and Retroid Duo line as dual-screen options in a September 28, 2026, Retro Handhelds review. That source does not provide enough comparable current specifications or prices here to rank them reliably against the RG DDS. It describes the Retroid Duo line as roughly $150 to $250-plus in its market context; that is not a current price quote for a specific model. Retro Handhelds’ dual-screen handheld overview

The AYANEO Flip 1S DS sits in a different price and hardware class: PC Gamer reported in 2025 a 7-inch 144 Hz OLED top panel, a 4.5-inch 1080p IPS lower panel, and a $799 entry Ryzen 7 8840U configuration. It is a premium handheld PC comparator, not a close budget substitute; the reported price and availability should not be treated as current checkout information. PC Gamer’s AYANEO Flip 1S DS report

Wait if the RG DDS’s layout is the draw
The teaser describes a clamshell with two different-sized, higher-resolution panels, full-size thumbsticks, and an integrated stylus. If those features match what you want, waiting for final specifications, price, and independent reviews is more sensible than treating the teaser as a finished buying proposition.

Consider an existing listing if you need a device now
The RG DS has a documented spec sheet, but Anbernic’s official page showed it sold out when accessed. Check stock and seller legitimacy before buying; the listing’s displayed price and inventory can change. The Retroid report also lacked a release date, so its announced price does not establish that it can be purchased today.
Match performance claims to the evidence
For emulation, a processor name or a promotional demo is not enough to predict the experience. Before deciding, look for independent tests of the games and emulators you care about, including resolution, frame pacing, compatibility, and any necessary settings. No independent RG DDS testing is established in the cited coverage.
