ANBERNIC’s PS Vita-style handheld is actually two devices: the RG VITA and the more powerful RG VITA Pro. Both borrow heavily from Sony’s handheld design, but neither runs the PS Vita operating system, uses Vita game cards, or comes with confirmed, turnkey PS Vita emulation. The Pro is the stronger choice on paper thanks to its newer chipset, 1080p display, Android/Linux dual boot, Wi-Fi 6, and DisplayPort output.
Two handhelds, one Vita-inspired design
ANBERNIC announced the RG VITA and RG VITA Pro on February 3, 2026. The announcement initially framed them as upcoming devices, but both are now listed on ANBERNIC’s official store. The product pages showed both selected U.S.-shipping variants as sold out when checked on August 18, 2026, so availability and pricing may change.

The resemblance to Sony’s PS Vita is unmistakable: both models use a slim horizontal body, a wide screen, narrow bezels, rounded control areas, recessed shoulder buttons, and rear contours that evoke the Vita’s back-touch design. Calling them “clones” is fair as a description of the exterior, but it does not imply a Sony connection, licensing agreement, or software compatibility.
There are important differences. The ANBERNIC devices use Nintendo-style ABXY labels, Hall-effect joysticks, conventional triggers, USB-C, and Android or Linux rather than Sony’s proprietary Vita software. They have no Sony branding, Vita cartridges, or native access to a PS Vita library.

The important question: can they play PS Vita games?
Do not buy either model expecting a modern PS Vita replacement. ANBERNIC’s official product pages advertise Android games, ports, streaming, and support for more than 30 emulator systems, but they do not promise PS Vita emulation.
The distinction matters because a device can resemble a Vita without having a mature Vita emulator. The available reporting identified Vita3K’s Android development as effectively stalled, with the latest Android release discussed there dating to June 2024. That does not prove that PS Vita emulation is impossible, but it does mean reliable, broadly compatible Vita emulation is not established by the available evidence.
Emulator availability is also separate from hardware capability. Performance varies by game, emulator version, graphics drivers, operating system, controller mapping, and configuration. Neither ANBERNIC model should be marketed—or purchased—as a guaranteed Vita3K machine.

What the RG VITA models are actually for
RG VITA
The standard model is primarily a budget Android emulation handheld with a Vita-like shell. Its T618 processor and 3GB of RAM should make it more appropriate for older retro systems and ordinary Android gaming than for demanding modern emulation. The 720p display is sufficient if the Vita-inspired appearance matters more than maximum sharpness.
Choose it when the lowest price and the distinctive design are the priorities. Avoid it if you want Linux dual boot, external-display output, or a device aimed at more demanding Android and emulation workloads.
RG VITA Pro
The Pro is the more interesting device on paper. Its RK3576 platform, 4GB of RAM, 1080p screen, Android 14, Linux dual boot, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and DisplayPort output make it more versatile than the standard model.
Rank #4
- 【Android 12 Gaming Experience】 RG VITA handheld game console runs Android 12 with Google Play support, giving you access to Android games, apps and a wide range of emulators. Download games yourself with no games preloaded.
- 【T618 Performance for Retro Gaming】 Powered by the Unisoc Tiger T618 octa-core processor and Mali-G52 MP2 GPU, the RG VITA delivers smooth performance for compatible Android games and retro emulation.
- 【5.46" IPS Touchscreen】 Enjoy a 1280×960 fully laminated IPS display with multi-touch and up to 120Hz refresh rate. The compact design makes this Anbernic RG VITA easy to carry for travel, commuting and everyday gaming.
- 【5000mAh Battery & Wireless Connectivity】 Play for up to 8 hours with the built-in 5000mAh battery. WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0 support wireless streaming, multiplayer gaming, controllers, headsets and other compatible devices.
- 【Hall Joysticks & Expandable Storage】 Large-angle 3D Hall joysticks, six-axis gyro, RGB lighting and customizable controls provide precise gameplay. 64GB storage supports TF card expansion up to 2TB, with USB-C 1080p display output.
Android 14 provides access to Android games, streaming applications, ports, and Android emulators. Linux may offer a more console-like environment for supported retro systems. However, dual boot is only a meaningful advantage if both systems are mature, easy to switch between, and well supported by future updates.
ANBERNIC also advertises features including FOTA updates, online multiplayer, streaming, wireless projection, vibration, and dual-screen output support. These are manufacturer claims rather than independent test results. A 1080p screen does not by itself make demanding emulators run better, and dual-screen support does not guarantee that every Nintendo DS or 3DS title will work seamlessly.

Compare the exact configuration before ordering. A lower headline price may refer to a model without an SD card, while bundled 128GB or 256GB cards can change the total substantially. A supplied card is not automatically a good value: check its brand, capacity, reliability, included software, and legality before paying extra.
Buyers should also verify whether the seller is ANBERNIC’s official store or an authorized marketplace seller, then check shipping origin, import taxes, return terms, and warranty coverage. Marketplace listings are not necessarily equivalent to buying directly from ANBERNIC.
Which one should you buy?
- Choose the RG VITA if you want the Vita-like shape at the lowest price, mainly play older systems, and do not need Linux, 1080p output, or the Pro’s newer connectivity.
- Choose the RG VITA Pro if the price difference remains modest and you value the stronger listed hardware, 1080p screen, Android/Linux flexibility, Wi-Fi 6, streaming, ports, or USB-C DisplayPort output.
- Choose neither if your main goal is native PS Vita software, guaranteed Vita3K compatibility, Sony game-card support, or a true replacement for an original Vita.
Existing Vita owners should think of these as different platforms rather than upgrades. They may provide a larger Android and emulation environment, but they do not replace native access to a working Vita library.

Verdict
ANBERNIC’s RG VITA lineup earns the PS Vita-clone comparison because the industrial design clearly borrows Sony’s visual language. The software match stops there. The standard RG VITA is a low-cost, Vita-shaped Android handheld, while the RG VITA Pro is the higher-spec option with a sharper screen, newer platform, Linux dual boot, faster wireless, and display output.
The Pro is the better buy for most shoppers who want this design, assuming its price and stock are acceptable. But neither device should be bought primarily for PS Vita emulation until independent testing demonstrates reliable compatibility across the games a buyer actually wants to play.
